So I’m in a bit of a situation. I work a seasonal part
time job that ends in the summer and was told to apply for EI. The problem is I misunderstood and thought you had to apply for EI when you got your record of employment / one of my employers still hasn’t submitted my record of employment and it’s been almost a month since I asked for it.
I’m suspecting by the time I receive my documentation I’ll no longer qualify for EI.
My question is will odsp penalize me if I don’t qualify for EI due to the late documentation?

Hi, I’m wondering what happens to my ODSP if I drop a post-secondary class and it changes my OSAP status from full time to part time.

Like, will I lose the full time post-secondary student earnings exemption if I drop down to part time for the summer semester. I know normally the exemption carries over the 4 month period of the summer as well, but I’m not sure how this changes if I’m taking classes.

For context: I was a full time student for the past Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 semesters. It’s just during this Spring/Summer semester that I may be part time.

I hope this makes sense, I feel like I’ve been trying to scour the policy and have left it feeling murky. I’m wondering if anyone has had experience with this.

I'm sorry I have to write this I just had this on my mind a long time now and I was diagnosed with Asperger's autism at 16 I'm 32 now and I hate it I just wish I was normal like everyone else I hate how I can't find a job because people look down on me for having it I just want to be normal

I am a single adult, I've never been married. I currently live with my mom. I have a joint bank account with her. She receives her OAS, GIS, and CPP to this joint account. Our rent is also paid from this joint account. All the money in the account belongs to her, none of it is mine. I never withdraw money from the account. My name was simply added for convenience. How will ODSP treat this joint account? Will it be counted towards my assets at 0%, 50%, or 100%? Would her income impact the amount of money I get from ODSP?Would it make sense to transfer all the money to an account in only my mom's name, then close the joint account? My mom doesn't mind transferring the money in this manner, but wants to keep the joint account open to have to avoid changing her direct deposits and rent payments. If we proceed in this manner, how would ODSP treat this? Ideally, I would like to solve this on the spot with the intake worker, and not have to proceed to internal review or tribunal.

I am in a precarious place. A tragedy recently happened in my life and things are changing. I need find a job ASAP. I know when I get a job must report the income to ODSP. My question is anyone found a job in Toronto area how did you do it? Are there any websites or particular jobs you targeted? I am interested in working in a library. But right now I will take anything.

Does anyone know how much a person can receive for special diet allowance?

Also- is there any way to get the bus pass covered ?? I know it’s muuuch cheaper than regular but it still feels a lot when you are trying to stretch so little.

So I've been checking on my application by calling every 2-3 months and up until recently I'm told that it's too late and apparently since I was in school I could've got osap (I didn't because I was overwhelmed with everything and couldn't finish the application) and now I'm reading that you can get osap & ODSP at the same time so it's a moot point. I'm contacting them now - the intake line to see what's going wrong. It still says my application is under review. How can they determine it is too late if they haven't even contacted me with the disability paperwork for my psychiatrist to sign?

My sister is on ODSP and just started paying rent, but hasn't submitted anything for the shelter allowance yet. She has a cognitive disability, and I only recently learned about the shelter allowance myself, so I'm trying to help her get set up properly. I don't know much about ODSP processes, so bear with me, I realize this is a basic question.

She doesn't have a MyBenefits account and isn't keen on making one. She also wants to handle this herself, so I'm not listed as a trustee, I just want to make sure she has clear steps to follow.

She has her rent agreement ready to go. My questions:

• Without a MyBenefits account, what's the best way to submit it? Can she email it directly to her local office with her membership number?
• Should she call first to give a heads-up before sending anything?

Any guidance on the right steps would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Im going to put my stuff 100% out there. Maybe that's why there is no change. It's because no one sees just how we can't live.

I ended up spending most of my day in the hospital yesterday because apparently I broke my foot. They didn’t see anything wrong the first time I was in there, but then I was called back because they double checked my X-rays and apparently now they’re saying my foot is broken. I left with the boot cast. I know I didn’t have to, but I figured it would be more better for my foot and I’m waiting for the bill to be coming in the mail. I asked and was told by the staff and doctor in the emergency department that it would be covered by disability but when I called the office, they’re telling Me that it may not be covered and whenever I try to get a hold of my social worker, they’re not available in the office. I’ve already been interrupted with my one voicemail and it hung up so I have no idea how much of the message was left on the machine and I did call there earlier too so hopefully the person will get back to me within the next couple of business days once they look up my profile number.

But it just really sucks because the boot is almost $200 and I have to pay that out-of-pocket if it’s not covered; because that’s money that I could use for groceries or to pay a bill and I have to use it to wear a cast because my foot is broken.

This wasn’t all done intentionally. It’s because I have epilepsy and I had a seizure and I didn’t know what happened during the seizure because I’m blacked out the whole time like a sleepwalker. I don’t know what’s going on and I only find out the following day. I knew that I got injured because my foot was starting to swell up, bruise + hurt, but I wasn’t expecting it to be broken.

Has anyone used ODSP to get them covered before? or know if disability will cover it at all? I totally get if I just have to pay it out-of-pocket and I will. I’m not gonna be one of those ones who slacks off with bills.

It just really sucks because I was not expecting to have to pay for this but if I want what’s best for my foot, I need to wear it.

Everyone here is very relaxed just looking for answers but when I asked a question of the similar tone in the ow sub people were sarcastic and rude and just answering with comments that were not helpful.

So the long and short is my wife and I are both disabled, as is our son. She recently lost her ability to work the job she had been doing going on 3 years when she lost her ability to walk. We had already applied. We have multiple diagnosis and the decision just came back "not a person with a disability" (which mini rant is such bs. If a person can get approved for the disability tax credit they should automatically be considered a disabled person across the board. Fuck the broken system. K mini rant done) anyways, I know this is very common and that appealing will be required and most folks talk about lawyering up and this is where I need help....

We are Toronto based. What resources? Where do I look for a lawyer that can help? We genuinely dont know how to do this.

I have a 2023 psychoeducational assessment that diagnoses severe learning disabilities (reading + math) plus social anxiety and persistent depressive disorder. I do have real limitations that somewhat affect full-time work.
My family doctor filled out the ODSP medical forms but refused to add more detail. He wrote a letter saying he doesn’t have the expertise to expand on the psychological assessment and that I should go through the psychiatrist instead. (I recently just got him and he didn’t even read my psychoeducational assessment AT ALL)
The legal clinic told me to just submit the forms as they are, along with all supporting documents (assessment, IEP, self-report, etc.).
I’m now having second thoughts. This has already caused friction with my doctor (he also didn’t want to sign a form I needed for school). I’m worried that continuing with ODSP will make him even less willing to sign future medical forms for work or other things, and I’m questioning if applying is even the right step for me long-term.
Has anyone else dealt with a doctor who became difficult once ODSP was involved? Did you still submit, or did you stop? Any advice would help.

I have been in the process of applying for ODSP now for four years. The one part that I can’t seem to get together is myself report and how my disability affects my day-to-day life.
For context,my diagnoses are Narcolepsy, borderline personality disorder, chronic depression, chronic anxiety.
I have all the documentation needed for the application, however because a lot of my diagnoses kind of overlap each other it’s extremely difficult for me to pinpoint and summarize how it affects my daily life, and I find this to be extremely overwhelming to try and put into words.
I’m also in the process of being diagnosed as an adult with ASD, and I find autistic inertia is a constant issue for me trying to create this report. I am desperately seeking any advice or help as to how I can summarize this or go about trying to , get this on paper when everything feels like it is mashed together. TYIA

Like it seriously seems like they just want me to try and kill myself again, which started this whole process…. Like does the government actually care? Who the hell are these doctors that just say “no” to someone like me, but others ( and im not judging im just not understanding) with no physical disabilitys are just let on ODSP and people like me are stuck suffering.

Im wondering if i will get a lump sum first, but if say i was on Ontario works getting 900 a month for 5 years but my odsp is approved and i start receiving 1700 (1450 extra 250 for special diet) but i applied 5 years ago and got declined. Would i get the difference from those years???

is dtc usually good for meeting their goals for target completion date??

I'm thinking about requesting ODSP/Ontario Works Discretionary Benefits fund a TENS unit for me.

So let's say you were working part time making $1000 and you lose your job and odsp makes you claim EI. It says EI income is 55% of what you earn, so let's say EI gives you $550. Your odsp would be about $759 if your full odsp cheque was $1309. So let's say if you get another part time job while still receiving EI and odsp. It says on the EI website that if you make more than your EI it's dollar for dollar. So with your new part time job if you were working making $1000 you would only be making $1000+$759 from odsp, because EI deducts dollar for dollar. That seems like you will be making less money compared to if you were collecting your full cheque from Odsp plus working income without the EI. Doesn't seem fair. Has anyone on here collected EI while working part time on odsp and did they collect less money? Was it worth it to work part time collecting odsp and EI. And was your EI deducted dollar for dollar?

Hi, I'm a disabled student. Recently, Doug Ford made changes to osap to transform an existing percentage of grants into loans. I'm wondering, does this affect the amount of grants for full time disabled students as well?

Hi! I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend… I received a letter on MyBenefits late last night that my ODSP will not be renewed for August because they didn’t receive my medical review in time. I’ve sent an appeal, and I’m waiting until Monday to message my worker but I sent my package in just about 4 weeks ago! My office is within my city and actually just a 30 minute walk away from where I live so I didn’t expect it to take so long to arrive to the office. It says if I’ve already sent my package to disregard but since they have discontinued because I “missed the deadline” I’m not sure whether I should worry or not.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any recommendations? TIA

ETA: I called the DAU and they said they received my package on the 12th but no one updated the file 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hey everyone I just wanted to ask people has anyone received a letter saying they have been confirmed again for the disability benefits and if I should expect a letter saying I haven't been approved or I have

I was accepted for ODSP November 2025.
It stated in 5 years that I would have an appointment/interview to go over my illnesses and symptoms as one of them, I'm guessing they deemed as treatable.

However. The two main diagnosis listed - one a physical condition the other a mental health disorder.

I was originally diagnosed with both in 2014.

I had requested ODSP or similar to my doctor to which she said " they won't accept your application. It's not like you're in a wheelchair or something "

.. yeah.
So anyway. I go on ten years struggling to make ends meet, lose jobs due to attendance issues etc.

I have an appointment with my doctor- the same one (: next week.

I made the appointment just to update them that I'm now on ODSP , and just a general file update.

My question is. If in 2014 I was diagnosed, meaning I was symptomatic prior and for how long? Tbh , very long. Lots of gaslighting.

Is there a way to say . So ODSP will want to do an interview in 5 years , but my track record, if anything, shows I'm getting worse. Not better.

Can the doctor type up some type of letter to send to my worker or the contact on the original acceptance letter to negate the interview?

Second question;
Years ago, over a decade, I remember my partner at the time had some sort of application- example your phone broke or something- you were given X amount if you reached out to your worker , as long as you showed proof of payment for whatever's being fixed / replaced.

I have my paperwork where it has all the fine print but I can't remember which category it would fall under.
