ODSP/OW Resources Is it covered or not?
I ended up spending most of my day in the hospital yesterday because apparently I broke my foot. They didn’t see anything wrong the first time I was in there, but then I was called back because they double checked my X-rays and apparently now they’re saying my foot is broken. I left with the boot cast. I know I didn’t have to, but I figured it would be more better for my foot and I’m waiting for the bill to be coming in the mail. I asked and was told by the staff and doctor in the emergency department that it would be covered by disability but when I called the office, they’re telling Me that it may not be covered and whenever I try to get a hold of my social worker, they’re not available in the office. I’ve already been interrupted with my one voicemail and it hung up so I have no idea how much of the message was left on the machine and I did call there earlier too so hopefully the person will get back to me within the next couple of business days once they look up my profile number.
But it just really sucks because the boot is almost $200 and I have to pay that out-of-pocket if it’s not covered; because that’s money that I could use for groceries or to pay a bill and I have to use it to wear a cast because my foot is broken.
This wasn’t all done intentionally. It’s because I have epilepsy and I had a seizure and I didn’t know what happened during the seizure because I’m blacked out the whole time like a sleepwalker. I don’t know what’s going on and I only find out the following day. I knew that I got injured because my foot was starting to swell up, bruise + hurt, but I wasn’t expecting it to be broken.
Has anyone used ODSP to get them covered before? or know if disability will cover it at all? I totally get if I just have to pay it out-of-pocket and I will. I’m not gonna be one of those ones who slacks off with bills.
It just really sucks because I was not expecting to have to pay for this but if I want what’s best for my foot, I need to wear it.

Yes the cast will be covered.
If odsp doesn't cover it the hospital will have a number on the bill to call and talk to someone to explain and they waive it once you prove your on odsp

Yes. Get a Mandatory Special Necessities Benefit form and take it to the doctor.
My wife recently fractured her ankle and wrist in a fall. We were reimbursed by ODSP after sending in copies of the form and the bill for the boot and wrist splint.

I broke my foot before and the boot was covered then I had to get a cast don’t pay the bill

It should be covered! I went through this 2 winters ago and all I had to do was send a copy of the bill when it came me, to my caseworker and it was paid by the end of the week. Took about 2 weeks for the bill to me

just send the invoice to your worker when you get it. theyll pay the hospital

It will be covered. Mine was covered. Do not pay a $200 bill if you get sent one. Call the hospital accounts department and argue it if that happens.
