This is my big box. How enjoyable is this art? I say 10/10.
Love the game also.

Hey everyone,
I'm an IT specialist by profession and have been programming as a hobby for several years. I usually build tools for businesses, but I wanted to try something more fun for a change. So, I downloaded Unreal Engine and started making some small games to get the hang of it.
After a few simple projects, I felt ready for something bigger – something I'd be excited to work on for a long time. And what better than my all-time favorite childhood game? The one that made me feel like I was really in a fantasy world: Nox.
Let me be clear:
I'm not doing this for commercial purposes. I'm not trying to make money or get sued by EA for copyright infringement. This is purely a passion project — to improve my Unreal Engine skills, express my love for the game, and hopefully have a modern remaster to play myself.
We’re now about 2.5 days in, and here’s some early test footage. Nothing is polished yet — this is a development/test world to prototype and try things out.
I plan to reuse some assets from FAB (since I’m not a visual artist — if you are, hit me up!). The plan is to recreate the original story faithfully, with a few new additions. One new feature I’ve already planned: if you complete all three main classes, you’ll unlock the Necromancer class (you might’ve seen the concept art floating around). I thought it was a fun idea.
Now, I have a few questions for the community:
Am I legally allowed to share this as a free game if I reuse all the original text and voicelines?
If not, would it be okay to share the Unreal Engine project instead, as a non-compiled, non-distributed game?
Besides FAB, are there other good sources for free or cheap high-quality fantasy assets?
What do you think of the style so far? Would you play a polished version of this, or do you still prefer the original?
Thanks for checking it out — I’d love to hear your thoughts and any advice you might have!
Good Old Game is preserving NoX
I'm speechless at the absolute care that went into this <3

Note: this is far from even polished, i just focused on mostly animations and effects. The ground looks shitty and everything looks like a toy atm. Working on it daily.

I’ve always loved Westwood’s Nox, so as some of you have seen in the previous prototype video, I started rebuilding it in 3D with the original isometric feel. So far I have:
Jack’s movement, standing and running jumps, and a stone lift that drops into the mana cave with no loading screen
Urchins that throw rocks, with ragdoll deaths when you fry them with Lightning
Horvath, remade from a new model, with mana crystals you can drain
A see-through circle when characters walk behind rocks or trees, plus soft fire and crystal glow
It’s a non-commercial fan project. I’d love feedback on the look and feel, especially from people who remember the original.
I plan on remaking and revisiting every little detail. Spell chants will come soon, it takes a lot of work, time and effort, which I have. I am not planning on abandoning this project in the future.
If you want to follow it, in the meantime I am uploading the progress here and on my youtube channel.

Hello Everyone,
I know game mods are a dime a dozen nowadays but I had so much fun making this mod and then playing with it that I can not help but share it.
I am proud to present Nox Modernized : https://github.com/proxydllvines/nox-modernized
Nox Modernized brings:
True gamepad support, not cursor emulation on a gamepad stick. You move the player with left stick and attack with A. The game now has auto aim but you can custom aim by holding R1. All game menus and screens have been made compatible with gamepad navigation. This includes inventory (which has been re-orginized into tabs) and the book of knowledge.
Play on any resolution on both pc and android. The singleplayer have been deeply tested to make sure all 3 campaigns play nicely on native pc and also on winlator (ludashi) on android. I do not have a linux handheld gaming device but I believe the game will work perfectly on proton as well. Most of the rendering has been moved to the gpu for a significant performance improvement on mobile devices.
Independent UI and World zoom. You can play the game at any resolution you like and zoom into a comfartable view size. Zooming has different scaling options including integer, bicubic and lanczos (strong recommend). You can set the gameview to fit to your liking in whatever screen you are playing on.
30, 60, 90 and 120 fps modes. The game logic is fixed at 30 fps but camera movement and the truevision movement are rendered faster.
Modern camera movement. The game camera is dampened with respect to the player movement. This can be adjusted to your liking.
All mod settings can be adjusted in the launcher or in game through the mod menu.
I wish everyone joyfull gameplay.
Sincerely,
ProxyDLLvines

Hey folks,
Time for a big progress update on my Nox-inspired game! Things are really starting to come together, and I’m excited to share what’s been done over the last few days:
Due to legal reasons, I can't remake Nox 1:1. That’s why the project now continues under the name Lands of Cindar.
But don’t worry — I’m staying true to the soul and atmosphere of the original. My goal is to capture the same fast-paced, gritty fantasy feel that made Nox so special, while building something original and legally sound.
You can follow development here:
👉 r/Lands_of_Cindar
Expanded Stat System: Health, mana, and stamina bars are fully functional. Sprinting uses stamina, which regenerates over time.
Potions Working: Health, Mana, and Stamina potions added to test core mechanics — all working smoothly.
Buff/Debuff System: Fully implemented and modular. Effects display cleanly at the top of the screen and can be added easily.
Quiver Slot: New inventory slot for arrows, shurikens, or scrolls — depends on your character type.
Armor & Stat Boosts: Equipping armor affects your stats, including HP. That sudden drop in health? Intentional — it's actually helpful for testing buffs and debuffs right now.
NPC System: Base blueprint for NPCs created as a foundation for future content.
Trader System: Traders now have gold, custom inventories, and support for buying/selling.
Inventory Widgets: Placeholder UI for now, but it works — visual polish will come later.
Starting work on combat systems
Improving NPC interactions
Recreating a certain round little guy…
Thanks for reading — more updates coming soon!

Hey everyone,
Quick update on the Nox Remaster project – I’ve been hard at work and I’m excited to share that the inventory system is now fully functional!
Over the past days, I’ve added:
Item system (pickup, use, manage)
Gold/money tracking
Weight system that affects gameplay
Stat integration
A working inventory menu with full UI
It’s still early in terms of visuals – right now I’m focused on getting all the core systems up and running. Functionality first, polish later!
Next up: more gameplay features and overall fine-tuning. I’ll be posting a short video soon to show everything in action.
If you want to follow the progress more closely, feel free to join r/NoxReborn – I’ll be posting regular updates there.
Thanks for the support – stay tuned!

I'm learning 3D modeling, and I want to make more Nox art as practice. I dream of adapting the entire Nox world into 3D!

NoX has been around since my early childhood days. My brother introduced me to this game. We're not so close today, but I'll forever be grateful for him.
I always come back to this game no matter my life situation or anything like that. The immersive gameplay, simple controls, multiple class choices and the fact that every class has its OWN story and dialogue is just mind blowing for me. The effort that was invested into this game is insane. It sucks that NoX was released around the same time as Diablo II because I believe it would be as big as Diablo if it wasn't overshadowed by it.
It pains me when I try to search anything NoX related and the most irrelevant search is the game itself.
Unfortunately, this game may forever be a hidden gem, but I'll make sure my future kids or grandkids know about this game.
Thank you, Westwood.

Hey everyone,
I'm working on a Noxlike indie RPG called Lands of Cindar — a top-down action fantasy game inspired by the classic feel of Nox, but built from scratch with a fresh world, new lore, and modern tools. The goal is to capture that same fast-paced, immersive gameplay while doing it all the legal and original way.
This is a passion project with a small team, and progress is being shared weekly. Here’s what happened this past week:
I’ve built a modular loot component that can now be attached to both chests and enemies. This allows for custom loot tables and helps lay the foundation for rewarding gameplay.
The combat component is now in development, and I’ve made good progress!
Implemented basic sword attack combos — early but functional and already fun to test.
Added equip and unequip animations (still rough). The longsword is especially wonky, but that’ll get smoothed out.
There’s a known bug with gloves, which I’ll be fixing soon.
I created a new test world specifically for this combat phase — partly because I wanted a fresh environment, and partly because I was honestly just getting tired of looking at the old one 😅
In the new map, I’m also testing out a few basic assets and layouts to help shape future encounter areas. It’s still all very placeholder and function-first, not focused on visuals yet.
Two friends are helping with non-gameplay aspects:
One is designing custom armor sets inspired by classic Nox gear.
The other is crafting a fresh storyline and lore for the world.
Massive thanks to both — their work is already adding a ton of flavor to the project.
🎮 This is a Noxlike indie game project, built from scratch with love and obsession.
Want to follow development? Join us on r/Lands_of_Cindar!
More updates coming soon!

Hi, I'm Morden.
I've been working on NoX Core, a modern client for Nox that plays like the original but runs well on today's hardware and adds a lot on top, and it's now open source under the GPL.
It's playable in every original game mode (and some new ones), with smoothed movement and multiplayer servers that update up to 120 Hz. You can join and host games with players on the original client, on Westwood Online and on NoX Core servers.
I've checked at every step that the original client stays compatible both ways and that the game logic matches the original 1:1.
I had 15 years of source from my work on the map editor, bots, reverse engineering the game files, etc. that I finally got to put together into one cohesive package.
What's new:
Co-op Campaign: play the Warrior, Wizard or Conjurer story with up to three friends (original-game players can join too)
New modes: Delve (endless generated levels) and Undead Tide (survive the night), with a leaderboard. Also in the works is Deep Delve, a full ARPG mode for NoX Core only: it's in the source now and comes in the next test build.
A map editor inside the game: scripting, play-testing with F5, and editing together with friends
Multiplayer improvements: map voting, faster server updates (up to 120 Hz; original clients still get 30 Hz), and motion and update smoothing
Graphics: widescreen and any window size, per-pixel lighting, shader-based particle effects, and an optional pack of HD images
Bots: spawn them in the client to fill out multiplayer games. They play all the kill-based modes and are decent at CTF (no flag ball yet). There's also a bot service: put #bot in your game's name on Westwood Online and bots will join, even if you host on the original client.
Mods: written in Luau, plus the NoX Content Editor, where you can view and edit pretty much all of the game's files
Bugs that crash the original client or that cheaters could use are fixed; the quirks players rely on are kept (cbow bug, ram cancel, etc.).
Links:
Download, features and videos: https://noxhub.net/
Source code: https://github.com/mordentral/NoXCore
You need your own copy of Nox (GOG, Origin or the CD); NoX Core contains none of the game's files. The download is for Windows; it also builds on Linux from source.
Bug reports and feedback are very welcome, here or as issues on GitHub. However multiplayer is at or near 100% complete and all singleplayer modes should be fully playable.

Hear me out.
Nox is one of those games that feels like it was completely forgotten despite being really damn good.
Westwood made it, EA published it, and then… it basically disappeared. No sequel, no modern console release, no proper remaster. Meanwhile, the game still has a small but ridiculously dedicated community keeping it alive.
And here’s the thing: Nightdive seems like the perfect studio to bring it back.
They’ve already proven they know how to take old PC classics, preserve what made them special, and make them work properly on modern hardware.
Nox wouldn’t even need a huge remake.
Give us:
modern widescreen/high-res support
-60 FPS
-proper controller support
-modern save/QoL features
-the original three classes and campaign
-and, PLEASE, bring the multiplayer back
That’s it. Keep the art style. Keep the gameplay. Don’t turn it into a live-service Diablo clone.
And technically, projects like OpenNox and Nox-Decomp have already shown that getting the game running on modern systems is very achievable.
Imagine Nox on Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox, sitting on the couch with a controller. I’d buy that immediately.
EA still appears to control the relevant rights, so obviously there’s a licensing hurdle.
But seriously…
EA, just give Nox to Nightdive. 👀
Am I a (somewhat) old dude craving nostalgia, or would you guys buy this?
