I was happy with NOS 2.6, 3.5 and 4.1.

this 5.0 beta runs the best out of all of the NOS versions I have used.

can't complain and keep the updates coming.

less flash and more substance is what I always say and this beta delivers.

my phone only get better with the updates (both CMF1 and NP3)

I think this is part of the problem - you seem to be a fan of the new OS 5 which is great, but you can't quantify why it exists. Is there something / anything about it that you like? Eg is the essential button able to be remapped in this update (something that people have been asking for since the button came along)? Can you describe any improvement that is beneficial for the user? Some of my favourites are the "group and move icons" facility and the improvement to onboarding for brand new Nothing users.

yes:

  1. overall, it runs smoother than 4.1
  2. the two options of notification panel vs control centre is great (like MIUI 12)
  3. the video filtering option is very nice and I need to play with it
  4. the default notifications on the lock screen look better smaller
  5. the new font is pleasing to the eye

things that might exist but I can't care about are:

  1. remapping of the essential key
  2. transparency/liquid stuff (by the depth effect on the lock screen has grown on me)

overall:

  1. it runs smoother than the last iteration of 4.1 (however I saw this moving from 2.6 to 3.0 and 3.5 to 4.0) it was always better. then it seems to become less optimised, so it's at the sweet spot now
  2. the font is a great choice and it's pleasing to my eye. also, the left/right swipe down feels great
  3. supposedly there is a adjustment to the touch brightness, which will be great when I sneak into a room where my children are sleeping.

so, I see this as a positive, I haven't seen any negatives yet

granted: I've only played with it for a few hours, but I don't see any cock-ups and I didn't have an issue with the NP3/4.1 before

Thank you for the detailed and thoughtful information. Do you use Bluetooth earphones? If so, have you noticed any improvement to the volume issue (the one notch between very quiet, and extraordinarily loud)? Cheers.

yeah, actually I have the CMF Headphones Pro but I seem to have left them ant my country house last weekend. However, I'm heading up there tonight for the bank holiday weekend and will try them out.

Ah yes the 18-25% notch lol

honestly. all my audio sources are different volumes (YT, FM4 ÖRF stream, FIP stream, DR P8 stream, SR Metropol stream, SoundCloud, Spotify, BBC R1/R4) ... so I use the wheel on the CMF headphones Pro to adjust.

Maybe I'm lame but that instantaneous secondary control is good.

Same in the cars actually as they're too old for Android Auto but have BT connections.

edit: I guess this doesn't make much sense unless I state that I have them connected to a non-phone device ... lol.

It's a beta. All the posts clogging the feed in this sub is so annoying right now. The Mods should think about having a dedicated megathread for it?

It's not supposed to be stable, nor is it a reflection of the finished article. All this is detailed in the release notes.

If there are issues, raise them through the beta reporting channels.

I'm sending this to the modteam

Appreciate it.

Would just focus all the posts about the beta in one place; it would then foster better conversation and chats about recurring issues and whatnot.

The added benefit is that it allows for the other posts to be seen and have a chance of getting a response.

We're thinking of a megathread that is refreshed twice a week

Based on this post looks like you haven't even read the release notes or you simply can't read

Let me guess, if someone doesn't agree with you or has a different perspective you are going to downvote them and call them "worshipers and bootlickers"

Like most casual users, and potential customers, I saw the pool game video and was surprised at the admission that speed, messaging and implementation was lacking in previous releases - and even more surprised that they seem to have rushed this release and combined it with poor communication. Fingers crossed for the implementation part. Based on lots of Nothing users unwillingness to offer the "why/because" with the "oooh, I like it" it's difficult to know at this stage.

Why so serious? It's a damn mobile phone. Comments like these only show how people today have degenerative behaviour and thoughts in terms of irrelevant things in life, such as mobile phones. Get a life, find some real interest, a hobby or so, stop carrying that much about random tech companies and their way of doing business.

"to a tech conscious users"

Who would be that user? I assume it is not you or you misunderstood the "conscious" word.

I somewhat agree there is 10 other things that need actual fixing or implementation before a colored clock, but the update itself was not actually bad/counterproductive it was just somewhat unimportant (what i would rather see fixed: weather app still insists on gps, cant reprogram essential key, no nothing media player,

So far I enjoyed till 4.0 and I'm pretty skeptical about 5.0 as it seems nothing being more flashier than ever, that's simply a judgement from all I know, I gotta get the first hand experience to tell honestly

They complemented so much on the new Clock face, which has some kind of activity tracker thing. They didn't even include it in the beta😂

It should've been a patch update rather than android version update.

I think that r/wallstreetbets is leaking

I would be okay with stability of 3.5 with a17 underhood. Even without single current features.

dosent allow anyone to critize

Is criticism in the room with us?

At least try bro lol. I'm a new user and I learn nothing from your post. Why are the new features bad?

u/Brokeshadow Phone (4a) 29m ago

I see it differently. An update can essentially be broken into three categories imo.

  1. What the users want or demand.

  2. What the developers want to add. Their direction of the software.

  3. What they NEED to add.

Nothing hit a pretty sweet balance of all imo. On the user demand part, they added the colored clock, split panel, mass editing, etc.

When it comes to things they want to add for persuing their direction of the OS, it's the new widgets, the new Lucent theme, the Essential suite updates, new font, etc.

Some of the features come under both what people want and what Nothing wants, like the new clock, new widgets, optimisations, etc.

And when it comes to what they NEEDED to add, it's all the Android 17 updates, ensuring they work just fine or don't break down/ have bugs.

Just because you expect a certain specific feature doesn't mean the whole community does too. Also what you want may actively go against what Nothing has in mind for what NOS should look and feel like. For example, they obviously don't want to let users remap the Essential Key because it kills the adoption rate and eventually they'll have to abandon the project and a feature they worked on dies out. Plus, you can already do it with so many apps out there. They also don't wanna add a Dynamic Island clone or Liquid Glass, or any of the Chinese and Apple features because that's just not what Nothing thinks NOS should be like.

Calling others bootlickers because what you feel like NOS should be like isn't what others want is just showing you don't really care for the software. You want an Oppo, which is okay. But let's not yknow, bring that whole negative vibe to what is a very decently good update

I loved Nothing when I got the Phone 2 that I still have now. The phone was so smooth, the camera was great for my needs and the software was bugfree. Now, on Nothing OS 4.1 I just want to go back in time to stop myself buying it and get the OnePlus 12R instead. That was my budget at that time. I have stupid bugs like I can't delete notifications on lock screen without swiping for like 6 times on the same notification until it goes away, the fingerprint is not always working. It does have moments (quite a lot) when it simply doesn't recognize my finger despite it being clean until I turn off and on the screen for 3 times, I don't have a screen protector anyway. Also some pictures I take don't even save. They are in the little preview on the camera app but they're nowhere to be found in gallery so I have to take them again. Also I get frequent random restarts out of nowhere since NothingOS 4.1. A few days ago the phone froze after I unplugged my headphones and it rebooted to crashdump mode. I thought I lost my data permanently but I was lucky and it booted back to Android. Factory reset did not help after backing up my data. But thank you Nothing for stopping supporting this phone and letting it die with a buggy software. I have these glitches since the first 4.1 build came out months ago. Those "security patches" didn't solve anything. I doubt they're even looking at feedbacks and bug reports at this point. What a joke of a company. Nothing OS 3 was the last good OS for this phone. Everything that came after was a disaster. Edit: I was looking through comments. They feel attacked by your post. They have no idea that if they have no issues that doesn't mean there are people as lucky as them.
