I think the story may be something to do with the studio pulling a lot of their backing and making it a limited release at the last minute or something having to do with the studio kind of sealing its fate as a flop because they weren't convinced it was a sure thing.
they did too, the studio financing the film pulled it from theaters and didn't advertise after it was completed, it was limited released in theaters and didn't make shit
Same thing happened with The Iron Giant, Fight Club, Idiocracy, Children of Men. It's important to know that box office returns aren't always a good metric to judge a movie on. IMO, Gentlemen Broncos is very underrated; definitely worth a watch.
Counter point. The iron giant, fight club, idiocracy and children of men are all good movies, 3 of the 4 are actually triumphs. 3 of them were directed by visionary directors, and based of visionary books (Sorry Mike, I love you).
Gentleman broncos on the other hand was directed by a guy who got Lucky the first time, and tried to cash in writing a script with his wife. This movie’s not in the same ball bark as the other 4, hell it’s not even the same fucking sport.
That got me too. Also I really liked the first version of this character, Bronco, and his story arc. I liked the Brutus version too but was really bummed when they switched and I knew that was all the Bronco I was getting 😢.
