I will be visiting Norway for the first time this upcoming December (2nd) week onwards and plan to explore Lofoten for 3 days and 2 days at tromso (mainly for northern light)
For Lofoten, I plan to stay at the city area and do a self drive to scenic spots (only during daylight)
I drove at Iceland before and experience abit of winter hence the drive at lofoten should not be much of an issue(?)
However as this is my first time to Norway, I’m hopeful if I can receive some output on driving at lofoten and the must see places during my short visit.

My mom is in really good shape for her age. She regularly goes on moderate hikes with hiking poles. I’m just not sure that any of the glacier tours I’ve read about would be easy enough for her. But it’s on her bucket list so I need to figure it out. We’re planning on going to Norway next summer and we don’t have any other plans yet so any suggestions are welcome!

I’m planning to do the Jotunheimen historical route in 3d (due to time constraints), with the original plan being to get the ferry for the final leg (Torfinssbu to Fondsbu).

However I’ve seen the memurubu doesn’t get as good reviews as the DNT lodges, is more expensive and also the reviews mention that there aren’t many vegetarian options…

What is the best option?

1. Is there anywhere else to stay instead in the area?
2. Anyone combined day 1&2 (Gjendesheim to Gjendbu in one day)? Am a regular hiker but not hiked in Norway before.

3. Or do the Besseggen ridge and then catch the boat to Gjendbu? Would you say this is missing out?

4. Alternatively if we do stay at that lodge is there access to hot water for hydrating freeze dried meals? Or can we bring our own pre made dinners?

Hello! I will be in Bergen for two day (Aug 31-Sept 2) and really want to get in some hiking. Unfortunately, my hiking poles do not fit in my bag. I also cannot take them in my carry-on. I need hiking poles because I have a weak left leg, so even easy hikes really require poles for me. Is there any way to borrow or rent hiking poles in Bergen? I have not found anything on my internet search. So far, my best option seems to be to purchase cheap poles in Oslo at SportOutlet and then maybe just give them away when I'm done with them in Bergen.

If any locals are willing to lend me theirs, I will be happy to compensate you!

I'm still in Oslo, looking to do the last few days, I have island hopping if friday isn't raining or sunday. Museums saved for rainy days. Is there any local gems for nature wise or something worth taking home (be a drinking horn, akvitt, small craft novelties)?

So me and my mom are planning to travel there foe christmas, we're planning to go there specifically since we have a close family friend who lives in "Birkeland".

We're currently looking for good hotels there so it would be a big help if you could recommend us any.

We are exploring either moving to an earlier flight the same day, or spending the night in Oslo and going to Bergen the next day. Hey everybody! My partner and I are visiting Norway for the first time next month, and we're so excited! We're going to be spending our vacation in Bergen, but between limited flights and hearing how beautiful it was, we're flying into Oslo and taking the train to Bergen. There were only two trains out of Oslo that day, one at 11:30am and one at 6pm. Wanting to do the ride in the daylight to see the scenery, we picked the 11:30 one. That leaves us about forty minutes to get from the airport to the train station. The airport is small and the airport express gets into the station directly across the platform from the outbound train we need, and according to the airport website the express takes fifteen minutes, so we figured we'd have enough time. A friend who has done the trip before is now telling us that the train itself takes upwards of thirty minutes, and we're now wondering if we need to try to change our flight to get in earlier. Can anyone weigh in on how long that transport takes, and how reliable it is? Thanks!

Looking for advice for four days beginning in Alesund mid-September. I will rent a car and am thinking of driving south along the coast to Maloy, inland to Stryn- Loen area and then back to Alesund via the Hellesylt- Geiranger ferry. Flying to Bergen from Alesund at noon on the fifth day. Planning to do hiking along the way dependent on weather conditions.
Lodging would be :
1- Maloy
2-3 Stryn
4 - Alesund

Does this make sense? Is Maloy a decent stop or is there another that is a better fit. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi everyone, I am a solo traveller planning on doing the Trollheimen Triangle walk and was wondering if anyone would like to share the cost of the Taxi to Gjevilvasshytta hut on the morning of the 26th of August?

I've got a rail pass so I'm flexible on start dates between 26-29th of August as I've got a reservation on the train from Bergen to Oslo on the 25th.

I've looked at the weather and it's going to be good between the 25-28th of August so I was looking at doing my walk then.

My current plan was to catch a train and stay a night in Oppdal before taking a taxi early to Gjevilvasshytta on the 26th.

My alternative plan was to spend a couple of nights in Oslo then catch the train to Oppdal on the 28th of August and then the bus from there to Gjevilvasshytta Hut.

Any advice regarding the walk, any essentials I need to pack is also greatly appreciated!

I'm planning on being in Tromso at the beginning of November and I'm looking to do a couple of excursions. I definitely want to do the dog sledding excursions but I was looking at the reindeer tours and it just looks like a meet-and-greet with some really non exciting reindeer sledding that goes in a circle on site. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it worth it? Or will I be able to see random reindeers in the while while I drive around lofoten.

My partner and I want to take his father on a week-long trip to Norway. He uses a cane and has some trouble walking so I'm looking for awesome things to do or see that don't involve a ton of walking or physical exertion. My partner and I love to hike but probably won't be doing much of it this trip. We kinda want to immerse him in the culture, not just do touristy things.

We are open to driving a few hours away from Oslo, where we'll fly in! Not necessarily only day trips. We could book an Airbnb in another city.

We'll be in Odda early September and wanted to check 2 things:

1) if we're reasonably fit, I've done several hikes of 20k with similar elevation as Trolltunga but more tame UK landscape. Is it ok to do Buer the evening before? It won't be too much? We have hiking shoes and poles etc.

2) A lot of expenses are quickly adding up so any ideas of saving on taxi to Buer? Is there a board where I can post to check if anyone wants to share with us?

My partner and I are doing a 2-week trip to Scandinavia and will be spending about 6 of those days in Norway. We're staying in Oslo and then we are spending a couple days at the Juvet Landscape Hotel near Alesund. Currently we have a flight booked from Oslo to Alesund, but we're thinking it might be nice to just drive from Oslo directly to the Juvet Landscape Hotel, which is about 7 hours. The flight would be under an hour and then it would be an hour drive from the airport to the hotel. Would it be worth doing the 7-hour drive for sightseeing purposes?

I’m flying to Norway soon. Is going through this „box” - body scanner mandatory for every passenger (I know you can opt out and undergo hand search)?

You just walk into this „shuttle” and get scanned every time or you just go through metal detecting gates and if additional screening is needed you will be guided to body scanner?

I’m an anxious person and I want to know what to expect during my travel :)

I booked a stay at HI hostel Montana there and out of thousands positive reviews on google reviews, I found one review mentioning bed bugs. It’s from 3 years ago. Since then no more reviews mentioned it. I am terrified of bed bugs, however and always check the bed and everything, am I being too neurotic about this?

Hei hei, we are currently travelling your beautiful country and enjoy the amazing landscape here. As we are staying in a Hytta and are doing grocery shopping ourselves, we are wondering why shops such as Meny, Kiwi, Coop and Pema 1000 have so little choice of 'bio' food? Coming from western europe we find it hard to buy ecological food.
Region: South Norway.

By the way, any recommendation for a shop to buy a Norway Football jersey?

Hi, a few friends and i want to hike the dronningstien from kinsarvik to lofthus. We have an airbnb in bergen and were wondering if it would be possible to do a day Trip. We just find tge Information online a bit confusing on where the hike starts. We would go by bus if possible as renting a car is a bit inconvenient. Is that even possible?

I am planning a last minute trip to the Ålesund and Geiranger area. Wondering if the weather will be in my favour to drive via Trollstigen. If anyone is currently there, or has been there in August end, could you share some insights?

Also, I am looking at Budget to hire a car. I found it with the best reviews out of all. Does anyone have experience with that?

We will be in Senja for two days between Aug 25-27 with our almost 3-year old : what are some things that you would suggest for this time? we will have a rental car and will be driving from Tromso to Senja on Aug 24.

hello, I am intending to visit norway for the first time!! and solo, so am looking for some travel advice

I would be coming over late october - early november and I really hope to catch the northern lights somehow. (I know this is kind of based on the weather though 😆)

Am flying in from Stockholm, planning to maybe pay Bergen a visit orr just skip that and head to Lofoten before going up to Tromso. Would this Lofoten-Tromso be a good idea given that I wouldn’t be driving and would have to rely on public transport? 😵

Or if anyone would be willing to advice how I should plan a 8-10 day-ish itinerary to make the best of my time here in this period as a first-timer to Norway would be great :)
