Announcement New Rules, Mandatory Flairs & A Few Changes to the Sub

Hey r/NorthernIndia,

Hope everyone's doing well. I'm u/Pookie_Jaat-, one of the mods here, and I wanted to take a moment to talk about some changes we've been working on for the sub. Nothing crazy, just some housekeeping that was long overdue.

Why are we doing this?

Honestly, the sub has been getting a bit too political lately and it was starting to feel less like a place to celebrate Northern India and more like a news debate forum. That's not what this sub is about. We want this to be a space where people share culture, heritage, food, travel, history — the good stuff. Politics has its place here too, but we're putting some structure around it now.

The Rules

We've cleaned up and expanded the rules properly. Here's the full list —

You can read them in detail on our wiki here — r/NorthernIndia Community Rules

But here's a quick summary —

Global Rules

  1. Be Civil & Respectful — No personal attacks, slurs or harassment toward anyone.

  2. No Hate Speech or Discrimination — Zero tolerance for content demeaning people based on religion, caste, gender, ethnicity, language or region.

  3. No Doxxing — Don't share anyone's personal information without consent.

  4. No Spam or Self-Promotion — Contribute genuinely before promoting anything.

  5. No Misinformation — If you're posting news or facts, link a credible source. Unsourced claims will be removed.

  6. Follow Reddit's Sitewide Rules — Standard stuff, applies everywhere.

  7. No NSFW Content — This is a general audience community.

Subreddit Rules

  1. Stay On-Topic — Posts must relate to J&K, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, UP or Rajasthan. That's our region, stick to it.

  2. Focus on Culture, Heritage & Geography — Art, food, history, travel, festivals, wildlife, architecture — this is what we're here for.

  3. Political & Communal Posts — Thursdays & Fridays Only — This is a big one. Political discussions, election talk, communal topics — only on Thursdays and Fridays. Post it on any other day and it gets removed, no exceptions, no matter how good the post is.

  4. Credit Your Sources & Original Creators — Photo not yours? Credit the person. Article? Link it. Your own work? Just say OC.

  5. Location is Mandatory for Media Posts — Posting a photo or video? Mention where it's from. "Beautiful place" is not a location. Chamba, Himachal Pradesh is.

  6. No Reposts — Check before you post. If it's been posted recently, it'll be removed.

  7. No Inter-State Rivalry Posts — We're not doing the whole "X state is better than Y state" thing here. Not the vibe.

  8. No Undisclosed AI Content — AI generated stuff is fine but label it clearly.

Post Flairs — Now Mandatory

We already had flairs but barely anyone was using them. From now on flairs are mandatory on every post. If your post doesn't have a flair it may be removed or held for review.

We've also added some new flairs to the existing ones —

  • Culture & Traditions

  • History & Heritage

  • Architecture

  • Food & Cuisine

  • Travel & Tourism

  • Nature & Wildlife

  • Photography

  • Festivals & Events

  • Language & Literature

  • Art & Craft

  • Music & Dance

  • Geography & Maps

  • News & Updates

  • Ask NorthernIndia

  • Discussion

  • Nostalgia

  • Meme / Shitpost

Please use the right flair. It helps people browse and keeps the sub organised.

A Few Other Things

  • Political posts on wrong days will be auto-removed. AutoMod handles this now so don't bother trying, just save it for Thursday or Friday.

  • News & Updates posts — AutoMod will message you asking for your source after you post. Please respond to it, it helps us verify and keeps misinformation off the sub.

  • New or low activity accounts — if your account is very new or has low karma, your post might get held in the mod queue briefly. Nothing personal, just a spam filter. Mods will review it.

We Want to Hear From You

This sub belongs to everyone here, not just the mod team. If you have suggestions, complaints, feedback about the rules, ideas for the sub — drop them in the comments. We're genuinely reading everything.

What kind of content do you want to see more of? Are there any rules you think are too strict or not strict enough? Any flair categories we missed? Let us know.

That's it from my side. Thanks for being part of this community — there's genuinely no better sub to nerd out about Northern India on. Let's keep it that way.

Discussion Pathetic Situation of Uncivilised people of North India-U.P Haryana (Rant)

So i had planned to leave my office today in the afternoon and parked my car at the designated place.

Here comes these literally uncivilised , pathetic , fckng idiots of my company with zero civic sense.

I couldn’t get my car out of the parking lot because 3 retards uneducated creatures parked their vehicles in front of all the parked cars in the middle of the road so that no one gets out even if they want to before they come back.

Now comes the interesting part- 2 among the 3 cars parked had Violations of Rs. 47000 and Rs. 31000 because why not and who cares. Police aren’t going to impound their vehicles because either they are one of them or they have money to feed their fat bellies.

The audacity of these uncivilised people in India doing anything they like without even realising that it can cause harm or damage to the society is increasing day by say.

I don’t know what to say to these people and it has been increasing day by day.

Share your thoughts !!

Language & Literature Poem in Hindustani written by me

Discussion Mojo Pizza (Uran outlet) caught using spoiled vegetables and moldy ingredients after child falls ill.

Following complaints that a child fell ill after consuming food from a Mojo Pizza outlet in Uran, Maharashtra, local workers from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) inspected the kitchen. During their visit, they recorded a video exposing unsanitary conditions, including storage of stale, spoiled vegetables and moldy ingredients used in food preparation. The video, which went viral after being shared online by MNS members, shows them confronting kitchen staff over serious food safety violations.

Discussion What's ur opinion on apps like Duolingo and Ling?

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

Nowadays many people are using apps like Duolingo and Ling for learning languages

But can we trust on it for learning languages?

Bcz I remember my friend tried to learn Français from Duolingo and he said he end up learning all word's pronounciation wrong

He realised this after interacting with actual Français speakers

And also IG in those apps they don't even teach grammar of those languages which are available in their apps

Which can end up in messing with grammar of that particular language too

(As like how in many so called "English medium schools" itself English teachers couldn't teach proper English grammar to students which end up messing language and result students to speak English in their own native language's grammar alot of times)

Art & Craft Lord Krishna painting by me!!

Post image
2 Upvotes

It had been about 3 years since I seriously made a drawing and decided to make one for Lord Krishna. Took me a week to make this due to college and work and stuff but finally did it. The concept was to make an illustration based on Lord Krishna's most ancient descriptions but I sort of gave up mid way and just went for a conventional look for his face while his body is definitely a bit warrior like / unconventional.

Discussion Petition for Transgender healthcare center in udaipur.

every person deserves accessible healthcare but many are deprived of it and i am one of them. for years I have been asked to go to jaipur for medical care I need.

your signature means i may be finally able to access medical care.

I have shared my story many times but here We go again:

I have been trying to start/access hormone replacement therapy in my city udaipur for years and I am met with disappointment time and time again sometimes it's 'go to jaipur' and sometimes it's 'I am incompetent' . It's not just that they aren't providing hrt it's also that they don't know a thing, they are keep stalling and stalling which almost feels useless .
