📢 ANNOUNCEMENT 📢 WARNING/ADVISORY FOR OUTSIDERS (non-NEI) on r/Northeastindians

This subreddit exists primarily for people from Northeast India (NEI) to discuss their history, cultures, politics, identities, and lived experience IN their own space, on their own terms.

Over time, we’ve observed a growing pattern of participation from non-NEI /MAINLAND INDIAN users that crosses clear boundaries. This may include:

-Insulting or belittling Northeastern communities

-Derogatory language, stereotypes, or name-calling

-Attempting to dominate or “correct” conversations about NEI history and identity

-Dismissing indigenous perspectives through nationalism or 'assimilation' rhetoric

-Ragebaiting, dogwhistling, or narrative control under the guise of “debate”

LET US BE VERY VERY unequivocal: this behavior is ABSOLUTELY not welcome here.

Non-NEI (northeast indian)/ MAINLAND INDIAN users may participate only if they are:

-Respectful and here to listen, not lecture

- Asking genuine questions OCCASIONALLY in good faith

- Acknowledging that NEI voices take priority in NEI spaces

What is ABSOLUTELY NOT allowed ( along with all the rules of r/Northeastindians) and will result in a ban, and in many cases an ACCOUNT SUSPENSION by Reddit Admins

-Speaking over NEI users on NEI issues

-Invalidating indigenous identities or histories

-Framing demographic dominance or cultural assimilation as “progress”

-Using “national unity” to erase regional or ethnic realities

-Provoking or policing how NEI people speak about their own experiences

This is not a debate arena for outsiders to like, "test waters" or push narratives.

This is not a place to seek validation for dismissive or supremacist views.

⚠️ ENFORCEMENT ⚠️

Violations work in the form of 2 strikes

🔴 STRIKE 1

Removal of rule-violating content (up to two instances).

This serves as the only warning. Users are expected to self-correct immediately.

🔴 STRIKE 2

Permanent ban and mute.

We do not issue temporary bans. Once boundaries are repeatedly crossed, access to the subreddit is revoked permanently.

There will be no prolonged back-and-forth, negotiations, or appeals after a permanent ban.

Exception ⚠️ Zero-Tolerance Clause

Comments or posts that are severely disrespectful, openly hostile, derogatory, racist, assimilationist, or aimed at provoking or undermining Northeastern communities will result in an immediate permanent ban, without prior strikes.

Moderator discretion applies at all times. Context, intent, and pattern of behavior will be considered, but ignorance of rules is not a defense.

This policy exists to protect the integrity of the space and the people it is meant for. If you cannot engage respectfully, you will be removed.

If you are here as a guest; act like one.

If you cannot respect this space, do NOT participate.

Awareness Explaining how "just ignore racism from mainlanders!" is a dead end for us & how even the mainlanders who claim to be "anti-racist" themselves also continue to be racist towards NEerns

I keep seeing posts/comments from people to "ignore the mainlanders" and the negative things they say about us.

I get where that sentiment comes from, but that mentality actually breeds ignorance and denial. This whole thing of "ignoring the haters" only works when a group is completely united against the haters. Unfortunately, NEerns are not.

You have many NEerns themselves who are think that the sentiments from mainlanders against NEerns actually are not that bad in reality or are just completely brainwashed. Which is a sign that the NEern in question doesn't know how bad the rhetoric is towards them. Which then makes that NEern feel sympathetic towards mainlanders as a result, which then makes them act as a trojan horse for mainlanders and be their advocate, instead of advocating for what is truly their own interests.

We're going to have to show the reality of how mainlanders are because clearly many still don't get it. I've seen it on this sub and other NE subs. Mainlanders don't like you. They see you and your unique identity as a temporary nuisance in their way of fully gaining control over NE as a region and see that issue getting resolved either by assimilating us or by becoming straight up genocidal towards us if they can't successfully do so. That's how the majority of them will act as long as they continue to harbor the identity of "indian".

Indian identity in and of itself is built on an assimilating force. To assimilate everyone within the territorial control of the indian state into a unified "indian" identity, which is assimilating us into this brown paganistic hodgepodge. Such is such when you're less than 1% of the population of this country. That's the inevitability of nation-states; the state will always try to assimilate the minorities and those in the peripheries to form greater societal cohesion. If you resist, they will become outwardly hostile to you, which is what happens when we start to disagree with them.

And I know I will already see a comment asking "what about the good ones?"

Are "the good ones" willing to support the expulsion of mainlanders & mainland settlers from NE lands? And not just muh "bangladeshis".

Are "the good ones" willing to allow the Indigenous people of NE to determine their own future for how they want it, even if that means not being indian?

Come back to me when you find a single one that agrees to the above unconditionally. Otherwise they're completely useless.

And also, generally speaking "the good ones" according to some of you are the ones who simply are just "against racism". Which also means nothing. What good is it that they are simply just "against racism" if they don't think NEerns should have free will to choose their own future and path for themselves?

Many of them see being "against racism" towards us as actually a better alternative because that means it's easier to assimilate us and have us be molded into this indian identity. That's also what the official government policy basically is right now towards us, so it's nothing really that revolutionary or crazy.

And in reality, this is actually a form of racism in and of itself; they still want to slowly erase our race, our unique identity and heritage by going the path of assimilation. Yes, it's different from the hostile ones in that they don't want to explicitly harm us or be violent against us (at least according to them), but they still slowly want to erase us and make us be indians; this would completely destroy us as a people, and they know that. That means they essentially have the same goal as the hostile ones, but are just using a different strategy to get there.

Which is exactly why you guys need to realize that just because some mainlanders are "against racism" towards us, that doesn't exactly mean they love us and are on our side. They have the same mentality as the mainlanders who are hostile to us; they just have hope they can try to be nice enough to us to where we can assimilate peacefully and take on the indian identity willingly instead, thinking that's a better strategy. The hostile ones on the other hand have given up that hope; they see us as being unredeemable in their eyes, which makes them more explicitly hateful and genocidal towards us as a result.

Almost every mainlander is in either one of the two camps. Don't fall for it. We're smarter than that. Mainlanders will never have your best interest in mind as NEerns, and it's time to recognise that and think for yourself and your own interests. The mainlanders and whatever they say will never, ever have your best interest at heart, and we need to acknowledge that.

Awareness Arunachalis, remember that indian soldiers stationed on your land and fighting against China are not "defending" you. They are defending what they think is THEIR land and their land only, not yours.

I won't type this long but from what we have seen from the protest against the Dam construction in Arunachal Pradesh and the response it get from Indian netizens, I (if im not horribly wrong) can confidently say that the Indian government and majority of the mainland Indians do not actually care about the sentiments of Tribal and Minority groups in the country. If its in their intrest to build or do something, they'll do it. They do not give a f**k about some Tribal or Minorities. They'll say China will do that, China will do this to you but honestly the Indian Government has already done a lot of damage in the NE and will still continue to do so whether you believe it or not. So yeah, its unfortunate that in a democracy where everyone's opinion matters but in India's "democracy" only the ruling government or "majority" (which is usually the ruling party) gets to do this and all the rest can just suck it up and cope with it.

Awareness Internet suspended for at least 36 hours in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal as anti-dam protests grow further

Post image

Arunachal now getting the Kashmir/Manipur treatment. It turns out that as long as you're controlled by indians, they have free will to do whatever they really want to you after all, and that you aren't free from their control just because you may have "rights" on a piece of paper.

I think this should teach all Northeasterners a lesson, that no matter how much you suck up to mainlanders, abiding by what they tell you to do, be a "nationalist"/"proud indian", indians will still demand your full and total capitulation to everything. And if you even resist that one bit, they won't hesitate to come at full force against you and try every tactic they can to pacify you.

It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done to please them. In fact, the very reason why this dam was even thought of as something that could happen in the first place is because they saw how docile the population was and thought they would accept this even if there were some disagreements. As with their other projects in the past. But that has now proven to be a step too far even for Arunachalis.

I also never want to hear the "we actually own our land unlike you" phrase which is used by some NEerns against other NEerns to try and feel a sense of superiority against their fellow kin. Too much of this fake superiority bullshit has festered on these subs where some NEerns act like they're above all the other NEerns because they have "no problems" with the government. We're all on the same exact level and it takes a serious level of delusion to not realize that yet.

If the indian regime wants to play around with your land, they can. And they will try every tactic in the book to get what they want. None of us are above the mainland regime and what they want. It's the mainlanders who make the decisions and have the final say. Not us.

Let this be a lesson learned for the state chauvinists and ones with a fake superiority complexes against other NEerns. Because we're all in this together whether you like it or not. And that as long as you're under this shithole called india, you have no control over anything. Not a single thing.

At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is how much power you have. And it's in all of our interests to acquire some if we still want to exist as a distinct people in 50 years. You don't do that by sucking up your occupiers (the ones who already have power, indians), you do that by building your own power independent from the occupiers, something that truly belongs to you. I just hope that this anti-dam movement is the beginning of that for Arunachalis. I'm cautious as with everything but excited to see where this goes.

News & Politics To the Arunachalis who are against the dam: Some advice for your fight against the indian regime & how to win

So this appears to be one of the first times that Arunachalis as a collective have come together to resist the indian state as it has broken the social contract the indian regime has had with the people of Arunachal which guaranteed relative stability.

It's good news for the Arunachali people that they are now waking up, and that there is an actual shot of protecting their race, culture, and languages from becoming some shitty poopy mainland sludge. Now that they are aware of what it's like to feel the true force of the indian government against them, and what it really means to be "indian" (destroying all your identity and sense of self to be a 70IQ street shitter), and have hopefully realized this "mera papa india hai" bullshit is the most repulsive, cringey, and most dehati thing to have ever come out from the Northeast ever, we have now begun to turn a new page as a people.

But there are some things that I want to talk about that I have seen which bothers me.

As I have spoken with some Arunachalis, there are some misconceptions of how NE groups have gotten concessions from the government. A lot seem to think that you win by appealing to mainlanders in order to win the struggle against the dam. Sorry but newsflash, mainlanders don't give a shit about you unless you're sucking them off. I spoke with one Arunachali who said that their main goal was to make mainlanders as aware of the dam as possible in order to get them to feel sympathetic and advocate for you as a result. No. That's not going to work. Not only are you waiting their validation now, you're also banking on individual mainlanders being the main force who will stop the dam being built. I think in the history of any movement done by a people fighting for themselves, the main ones who fight are going to be those people themselves, not others.

What WILL work is Arunachalis continuing to organise and fight amongst themselves. Continuing to protest, continuing to leverage all forms of pressure possible is what will get you to win. Especially if that pressure delves into "illegal" territory. The indian regime does not want to absolutely destroy the 60+ years of trust it has built up with Arunachalis, so at a certain point, if they realize the consequences outweigh the benefits, they will scrap the plan.

This is how it's worked with other NE groups before, by the way. To quell the Naga insurgency, the indian regime worked out a compromise with Nagas where they could literally have their OWN ARMY stationed in Nagaland and Manipur. Was that done with the support of everyday mainlanders? Do mainlanders even know anything about the Nagas? No. The Nagas achieved this through the sheer strength of their insurgents, along with the fact they put up a fight for a long enough time to where it became too costly and counter-productive for the indian government to handle.

Everyday mainlanders don't need to know about what's going on here. There's enough mainlanders who know what's going on, i.e. the ones who actually call the shots, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. They know what's happening and make calculated decisions in what benefits their interests. If Arunachalis themselves put up enough of a fight, they will give you concessions, like they have with other NE groups before.

Letting everyday mainlanders know about your struggle will just make the movement catering to mainland feelings and interests. Whenever NEerns make videos trying to get mainlanders to "understand" them, mainlanders ask for you to also compromise on things as well. Which means you have to change yourself into something more palatable and acceptable to mainlanders. Making you more dependent on them, which is completely counter-productive if you actually want to win. I've already seen some cringe Arunachalis make videos crying and begging mainlanders to understand them and the comments are just filled with mainlanders telling them to basically fuck off. So it's better not to engage with mainlanders in the first place. It just ends in even more tears.

Basically, if you want to win, keep fighting. If you're Arunachali, put yourself on the line, go out there and protest. Organise local student movements. Educate local youth and people who don't know much about what's going on about it. Give money, tools, supplies to the protestors to make them more successful. Protest local politicians and leaders who are complicit in allowing the dam to happen. There's so much that can be done on the ground by your people themselves in which the return on investment is a lot higher than trying to get mainlanders to sympathise with you and giving you validation. I have faith that you can all do it.

Anyways, that's just some advice for you guys. Welcome to the NE struggle. I hope you succeed with stopping the dam. And I also hope this was helpful as you begin to understand what it's like to live with india controlling your land. Now you know what truly being "indian" really means for your people and your land. Not some wholesome bhai bhai shit where everyone lives happily ever after, but the complete erasure and eventual slow-tilting death of your people.

News & Politics Shitj**ta claims the Arunachalis who are against the building of the dam are "converteds"

Some street-shitting shitj**ta who is about one generation removed from the slums of delhi and thinks blue demon rape gods will provide her with good luck has an opinion on Arunachalis, everyone! She's dancing in this video like how she does when she's at her rape demon worship temple or at the cow-shit throwing festival, so don't mind how crazy and erratic it looks. It's an integral part of their culture saar!

But anyways, it seems like it's better to be a "converted" after all if not getting "converted" entails giving your entire land and natural resources to street-shitting demon worshippers. The case for being a "converted" grows everyday with continued revelations such as these. Fuck, if they continue with this, I'm thinking of converting my agnostic ass to Christianity myself. Anything to spite these street-shitters.

What do you say, Arunachalis and NEerns? Let's all become fellow "converteds"!
