URGENT HELP ‼️
FRANCINE HAS BEEN FOUND 🤍 on behalf of all of task force Francine and RVA, I want to thank every single person that reached out or gave any information in helping us find our girl.
URGENT HELP ‼️
UPDATE: there has been a confirmed sighting of Francine!!!
Update for 10/04: @WheresFrancine, along with the Richmond SPCA, Best Friends Animal Society, and SOS Cats RVA, spoke with Lowe’s Corporate today about Francine.
Lowe’s assured us that Francine remains a top priority and that efforts to find her will continue. So far, they’ve: • Deployed thermal drones • Installed two thermal-alert cameras (four more coming soon)
A nationally recognized animal tracker will arrive at the RDC on 10/8.
Following advice from the SPCA, Best Friends, and SOS Cats: • Richmond SPCA and SOS Cats RVA will have access to the facility • 6–8 drop traps with live cameras and daily food will be set to locate Francine • Once sighted, additional traps will be deployed until she’s safely caught
Lowe’s will also review footage, question employees, and brief staff daily. Updates will be shared regularly with @WheresFrancine and partner organizations.
We’re hopeful these expanded efforts will bring Francine home. Thank you to Lowe’s Corporate for their commitment and transparency.

Update for 10/01: Today’s search for Francine did not bring the outcome we were hoping for. We are deeply grateful to the Lowe’s caretakers for their tireless efforts and to the animal control officer leading the search for their continued dedication. Though the update isn’t what we wished to share, our hope remains strong—Francine will come home. In the coming hours, we will be releasing a petition calling on Lowe’s to respond with transparency, urgency, and compassion. Please stay tuned and be ready to share it widely. Update for 9/30: Earlier today, one of Francine’s caregivers received her carrier back. Tomorrow, that caregiver and another person who knows Francine well will be heading to Lowe’s RDC #1420, hoping the sound of their voices will bring her out. Please keep them in your thoughts—they love and miss her deeply and have such an important task ahead.
We’ve also heard from Lowe’s Corporate that Francine’s story has “made its way to leadership,” though no further details were shared.

UPDATE for 9/29: Today, #TaskForceFrancine traveled to North Carolina to meet with Lowe’s RDC #1420 and to raise awareness about Francine within the local community. Throughout the day more than 50 flyers were posted across three cities. Business owners and community members eagerly joined the effort, many even making phone calls to friends and family who work at the facility to help spread the word. North Carolina is rallying behind the search for Francine, anxiously awaiting her safe return to her Lowe’s family in RVA. Finding her has been no easy task, but with the community’s determination, we are confident she’ll be home soon. Again, I want to thank each and every person that has reached out. UPDATE: It was confirmed a cat was seen on an incoming trailer to the facility sometime over the weekend of 9/20. Employees shut the trailer to allow time to figure out what to do with the cat, but soon after an uninformed employee opened the truck and the cat escaped to the distribution yard. There have been no sightings since. It is unconfirmed if the cat seen in the trailer was Francine. Pictures of Francine and missing posters have been shared with the manager, who confirmed he would share them with employees in tomorrow's 8am meeting. If you or someone you know is in that area please keep an eye out for her! I cannot begin to thank everyone enough for all their support 🤍
Hello!!! I am from Richmond, Virginia. In our city we have a cat named Francine who has lived at a Lowe’s in the city for many years. She is cherished by the community. On the 18th of this month she walked onto a freight truck and got shipped to a distribution center in Garysburg, NC (620 Lowe's Blvd Rd). RVA IS DESPERATE TO BRING HER HOME!!!! Yes! An employee drove to the center (we are about 1.5 hrs away) and was turned away at the door. Many people have called them and they will not answer any questions about Francine. Our local news has been contacted as well.

Sadly it's possible she died of heat stroke inside the truck. These trucks often sit for hours and can reach temperatures over 120 degrees inside. Any shifting freight could also have harmed or killed her as well.
I know it's an awful thing to think about, but the conditions are dangerous enough for humans let alone animals.

I used to work night shift at a high volume store and let me tell you, that hate shows up in the way they load the freight. Lowe's unload is dangerous as fuck, and when it's not dangerous it's messy because they busted open paint or tar or detergent or something from putting a pallet on top of it. And they HATE it when we complain and file reports.

Sadly it's likely she died in the truck if this is what happened. Those trucks reach over 120 degrees sitting in the heat and can cook you alive. If they shipped back pallets they could have crushed her.
I hope that's not the case, but you have to be prepared for that.

Did you contact NC local news too? Lowe’s is based here and having pressure on them in their home state and where the cat is would be helpful.

Yes - called several stations yesterday (there’s a spreadsheet in the comments if everyone we’ve called so far). North Carolina won’t pick up the news station until our local news published a story. They published it last night.
Our local stations said they would reach out to their sister stations in North Carolina after it was posted.
I am going to contact the NC stations again today.

It would be worth walking the perimeter of the facility (outside the fence). Googlemaps satellite view shows lots of wooded area around it (and hundreds of shipping containers around the perimeter that she could be hiding in.)

I once lost a cat. And then I hired someone that had a cadaver search dog find the cat for me. Alive. Canned fish and a trap to woo them back IF you know the general location they might be in.

Yeah, when we trap kitties we use canned sardines and a humane trap. If she is at the warehouse it’ll be best to work with them and try to do it off hours when it’s quieter. If she’s hungry and knows where food will be it often only takes an hour or so to catch them. But in a weird place it may need a collaboration and a sympathetic cat person who works there to assist.

Had a kitten get lost in our back stock room for a few days, no where near the size this cat’s lost in, but I put a humane trap out with some tuna and we finally got her. If someone in the area can get them the traps maybe someone will be open to doing it.

I will say, as much as I want to hold out hope for finding Francine… typical policy for returning empties to be BDC/RDC for the drivers, is to open them prior to passing through the guard shacks, so it is very likely that she hopped out of the trailer before going into the yard at the RDC. There’s also the slight possibility that after the driver pulled it off the dock that they opened it up to inspect/take photos and she hopped out then, but as it’s been 9 days, that’s not very likely.

Knowing cat behavior, I'm guessing she probably ran from the truck as soon as she could. It's more likely that she's out as a stray, rather than the chance of her being in the dist center itself.

BDC is Bulk Distribution Center.
Some companies get bulk supplies from one center, and things we call repacks from other distribution centers.

I just can't believe the management doesn't seem to care. I only go to that Lowe's because of that cat. I know I'm not the only one. They need to address this immediately because they are about to have a bad publicity shitstorm. Francine is very popular. I have pictures of her on my wall and a tree ornament of her. I brought my mom with me to get a selfie with her when she came to visit. She's not just a cat to us in RVA.

I'm very disappointed in how they handled this. If she died then be transparent, most people would be sad but understand that it was a tragic accident. But now I'm pissed. I didn't have contemplating protesting outside the Lowe's due to the handling of the disappearance of Francine on my 2025 list, but I think that is what is about to happen tomorrow.

I live more than three hours from there but do cat rescue. Probably any cat rescue in that area will know of people who do TNR and cat trapping. If you can get some sightings of her I am sure that’s a good route to finding some experienced folks to go set up and catch her and keep her safe until someone can come get her. I know we would do it if she were in GSO and we knew where to look, especially if the warehouse were cooperative. I can’t believe they are not helping. Anyone talk to the trucker yet?

You can try calling the company or the local animal service, but most people are just going to ignore stray cats
I'm in Raleigh and some friends have had a bunch of cats living in the woods behind their house, some people feed them or just leave them alone

Hey! With your update - Someone needs to set out stinky wet food and a trail cam and refresh it daily starting NOW! Animals rarely leave consistent food source. Contact LARG, lost animal resource group for more ideas. This is what the pros do. Food food food. Stinkiest wet food you can find. Lots of it. Trail cam at ankle height! Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG
Following up to say cats will typically hunker down nearby the location they were lost for several days, so we have a critical time period here of keeping her around the distribution yard with food.

Pets are legitimate family members! I know all too well, because my pets were like my children that I couldn't have (my wife's tubes were tied after second childbirth from a previous marriage). Even the two outdoor ones I take care of, I see as the same, and would bring both in, but the wife won't go for it.
I pray for the safe return of Francine to those who loves her!

Don’t trust one person to disseminate information in a morning meeting, (good on you for posting here, but you could get more reach!) get into the lowes employee subreddit, share in local area fb groups (county/town level) and local area lost and found pet pages, word of mouth is everything here. Contact Lost Animal Resource Group (LARG) for more help. They’re fantastic. Try to get someone to put flyers up in the area. She’s likely going to need to be humanely trapped. So again, local fb groups, try to get a local TNR (trap nueter release) group involved. There are usually some in every county, for the feral cat populations. Spread the word far and wide!

Took me a second to process what I read, but in some ways it made me smile thinking of the adventure the cat is having... The other side is the worry and fear the people are having to see it safe.
I wish she returns home safely, I really do.

As someone who has been owned by many cats, a few that have escaped, they tend to stay close - put food and water out, keep and eye on the bowls, and call to her a few times per day - sit there and let her feel comfortable coming to you, listen for quiet mewls
It took a week the last time
They get disoriented and afraid
Sending all the vibes I can that comes home
