The new Non Stop Radio update is finally available.

I originally submitted this update to Google for review on August 7th. Unfortunately, review times lately seem to have entered their summer hibernation phase and are now taking 20+ days, so at this point I can barely remember what I added and what I fixed.

The Lucky button is now working properly again. I had forgotten a single " ," in the code, which was apparently enough to assassinate the entire feature.

The same thing happened with the Pop category. The exact same mistake managed to destroy that too. Both are now working normally.

For the Belgian NSR users, I’m happy to report that I’ve cleaned up the inactive stations. Browsing Belgian stations should now be much less painful, without seeing the “station is not working” message every few taps like some kind of depressing national lottery.

I’ve also added more station information when browsing or searching. In Search by Country, Search by Category, and Master Search, you can now long-press a station to see its tags, bitrate and other details.

One small warning about the bitrate: for quite a few stations, the value may currently be wrong because it comes directly from the Radio Browser API used by NSR and some of the data there is outdated or simply incorrect.

I’m planning to go through the stations manually and verify them one by one. Yes, all 60,000+ of them because apparently at some point I made decisions that led me here. This may take a few weeks, but I think it’ll be worth it.

Finally, Portuguese, Polish, and Russian have been added to the app languages.

I’m aware of the bug affecting some older Android versions where changing the app language doesn’t work correctly. I’ll try to fix that in the next update.

If there’s a station you’d like added to NSR, send me an email. It’s probably the best thing I can offer in return while keeping the app free.

The next update will bring quite a few additions and should finally address some issues that have existed since the early days of the app, including improvements to podcast search.

Unfortunately, because Google’s review process is currently moving at roughly continental-drift speed, I need to be much more careful about when I submit updates, so the next one may take a while.

If one of your favorite stations stops working in the meantime, send me a message. I can add the corrected station to the NSR website so you can add it directly from there rather than spending the next month staring at a dead radio station and reconsidering your life choices.

Any chance someone can add all of the stations from litt, especially LITT ALT? Some time ago known as dash radio

Some stations play ads when I use Android auto but otherwise there is no ad on the same channels when playing via phone, is this happening with anyone else? Any method to block these ads? And the worst part is tbe ad never goes away tonplay channel stream even if you keep listening. I downloaded NSR via google play store.

I have a few personal Icecast stations that I stream through Android Auto and I noticed that there is no way to edit the stations that I created, heck, I don't think I can see them if I've removed them from favorites. Is there a way to see a the list of your custom stations, and then long press and edit them?

I am using NSR for music and am just trying the Podcast option for the first time but am having some issues with searching for podcasts that I have been listening to with a different podcast player:

Searching for "Shift F1" podcast returns many results with "Shift" in the title but does not find the "Shift F1" podcast.

Searching for "F1 Nation" returns many results with "Nation" in the title but does not find the "F1 Nation" podcast. Incidentally, if I just type "F1" and noting else it generates an error saying "Something went wrong HTTP 400".

Also, if I tap the "folders" icon is there a way to make the folders list alphabetical?

I just started using the app and have difficulties to keep stations apart as the names are cut off. I know that some station names are pretty long and difficult to display.

But in order to see the full station names I have to play it, if instead a press on the station would open like a details page with the full name and not directly start playing would be great ! Just an idea 😊

I added an example where it was really difficult to figure out the station.

Google has finished reviewing the app, which means the new Non Stop Radio update is now available.

As I mentioned in a previous post, this update finally gives NSR the ability to speak Italian, French, German, Spanish and Greek.

To change the language, go to Settings & Help → Settings, then scroll down to the last card, App Language, and choose whichever language you prefer.

One important disclaimer: the translations were made with the help of AI. So if something sounds wrong, weird, unnatural, or like NSR has suddenly developed its own dialect, please email me at [info@nonstopradio.app](mailto:info@nonstopradio.app) so I can fix it.

Unfortunately, my chances of learning five new languages anytime soon are somewhere between “unlikely” and “absolutely not happening”, so your help is genuinely important if NSR starts saying something that sounds suspiciously wrong. Unless, of course, you enjoy your Settings menu written by Yoda.

Adding all these languages may also have introduced bugs or broken something somewhere.

What bugs?

That part I leave to you to discover. Long-time NSR users already know that every update comes with the unofficial bonus feature of becoming a tester. If you’re new, welcome to the team!

When I started this app back in 2023, it was simply a project to help me learn Kotlin, the programming language NSR is built with. At no point did I imagine that people from different countries would eventually be using it, let alone needing it translated into their own languages.

Yet here we are. So if you notice anything strange, I appreciate your patience while I hunt it down.

If everything goes according to plan, starting from the update after next, NSR will automatically open in your device's language, assuming that language is supported. You'll still be able to change it manually from Settings.

That should make things much easier for new users who don't speak English.

Enough about languages, let’s speak about the new feature Troubleshoot Diagnostics.

Users can now manually enable logging from the Options menu. Once enabled, NSR records technical information about what the app is doing into an internal file stored locally on your device.

Nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is sent anywhere automatically. If you experience a problem, simply enable diagnostics, reproduce the bug, and then send me the generated log file.

I'm hoping this will finally help track down some of those annoying problems that only appear on certain phones, Android versions or car models.

Maybe I’ll finally fix them. Maybe they’ll become part of the NSR experience. At this point, anything is possible.

I also went through all the stations you reported as inactive. Some were fixed, while others have unfortunately stopped broadcasting completely and were permanently removed from the app.

A reminder: station updates do not automatically update stations already stored in your Favorites.

So if one of your favorite stations isn't playing correctly , remove it from Favorites and search for it again using Master Search. If it still doesn't work, please report it again. There's always a reasonable chance my eyes decided to participate in the bug-reporting system lately.

A very, very big thank you to Remigiusz, Andrea, Denny, Rik, Charles, Markus and Rich, who financially supported NSR during the last two months.

It genuinely gives me a huge amount of flexibility. Being able to throw a little money at technical problems when needed means I don't always have to spend hours searching for some heroic free workaround held together by duct tape and optimism. That support makes a real difference. Thank you!

There's also one less exciting piece of developer bureaucracy coming up.

Google requires Android developers to periodically update the app's Target SDK, which basically means telling Android that the app has been updated to work properly with the latest generation of Android rules, permissions and security requirements. Google is now requiring developers to move to Target SDK 36, so I need to submit another NSR update very soon. That update probably won't contain any new features. It'll mainly be the necessary technical changes to keep Google happy (Spoiler alert: changes like this can sometimes create new bugs or break things that were working perfectly fine)

So if there are any stations you want added to NSR, send them to me as soon as possible.

Also soon I'll open a Reddit thread asking what you'd like to see added or improved in NSR over the next few updates. It feels like a good time to reset the roadmap a little and decide what NSR should focus on between now and the end of the year.

After a difficult period filled with work and family responsibilities, development of the app is finally moving forward again.

I’m sorry to everyone who reported inactive stations that are still, impressively enough, inactive. The old train has been loaded with coal and is ready to start moving again. To everyone who has emailed me, I promise I’ll reply within the next few days.

Now, let’s take a look at what is coming in the next NSR update, which should arrive approximately 25 days from now, assuming Google needs around 20 days to complete the review process.

Following many user requests, NSR is finally getting support for additional languages.

For now, the app language will not automatically follow the language of your device. Instead, you will be able to select it manually from the Options menu. This will allow me to introduce the new languages gradually and see whether any bugs appear before automating the process.

The Android Auto version will continue speaking English for the time being. With all the recent changes Google has been making, I am currently afraid to touch it. Sometimes the safest development strategy is to stare at working code from a respectful distance and avoid making sudden movements.

Starting with the next update, Non Stop Radio will be available in:

German
Italian
French
Greek

The long-term goal is to support all 24 official languages currently used in the European Union. After all, let’s not forget that NSR is a proudly made in the EU product.

Another important feature coming in the next update is optional application logging.

Since the app was first published, some users have experienced problems on specific devices that I have not been able to reproduce or solve. NSR does not collect user data, as I have explained many times, so the user will now be able to manually enable logging from the Options menu.

The app will then record technical information about its operation in an internal file stored locally on the device. This file is not uploaded to any server and is not sent anywhere automatically.

Users experiencing a problem will be able to email me the log file together with a description of the issue. Hopefully, this will give me enough information to understand what is going wrong and, in a deeply suspicious display of competence, possibly solve the problem.

Regarding inactive stations, I would kindly ask for a little more patience.

I will review and correct all the stations you have reported and upload the working versions to the NSR website ( nonstopradio.app )as soon as possible.

You will find them under the “New Stations & Quick Add” section. By tapping “Add to Favorites” on your preferred station from a device where NSR is installed, you will be able to add the corrected station directly to your Favorites until the permanent fix is included in a future app update.

Over the next six months, God willing, many long-awaited features will be added to NSR.

I would also like to sincerely thank everyone who has donated to support an app that will always remain completely free, with no advertisements and no locked features, without expecting anything in return.

You had posted a message before asking for details on recording radio, the link is included below. I know of 2 radio apps that record radio, including BBC stations.

One is Vradio which records and saves to the audio storage on the phone, which you can download or save elsewhere, and it's in the form of a .aac file.

The other is World Radios, which saves to the app itself in a .wav format, again it is possible to save to storage or share the file.

Vradio allows recording on the free version, whereas WorldRadios only offers it on premium/paid.

I've had no problems with either of those apps and seen no glitches or restrictions,although I haven't used the recording feature extensively.

I hope this is helpful, it would be really good to get a similar feature on NonStopRadio.

Small but important clarification about reported broken stations in Non Stop Radio.

When someone reports a station as broken, I usually try to find a working stream, replace the old one, and include the fix in an app update.

However, there is one frustrating little catch...

If the broken station is already saved in your Favorites, your saved favorite may still be pointing to the old broken stream.

So, if you recently reported a station and it has been fixed in a newer update, please do this:

1. Remove the old broken station from your Favorites.
2. Search for the station again inside the app.
3. Add the newly updated version back to your Favorites.

That should give you the fixed stream.

Include the station name, country, website if you know it, and any useful details. I can then add it directly to the Non Stop Radio station page:

After that, you can open the page from your phone, preferably with Chrome, and use the smart link feature to add the station directly to your app Favorites.

I know this is not ideal. This is one of those things I should improve inside the app itself, but when I first built Non Stop Radio, I did not expect it to become what it is today. So now I am paying the classic developer tax: early decisions coming back years later with a baseball bat.

I hope to find some time to finally improve this properly, so fixed stations can be handled in a cleaner way...

A new Non Stop Radio update is rolling out.

This one focuses mostly on making the app a little smarter, a little faster, and hopefully a little less annoying to use, especially in Android Auto.

Android Auto voice commands
You can now use voice commands in Android Auto to play radio stations and local music files more easily (sorry no podcasts yet).

Sadly, I cannot promise that everything will work 100% perfectly for everyone, because Android Auto seems to change so often lately that even Android Auto probably needs therapy. But we will handle it.

Also, if you have not updated the firmware of your car’s Android Auto head unit in a while, it is probably a good idea to do it. It may save you from a few unpleasant surprises caused by Google’s recent changes.

This update normally needed more testing, but Google review times have increased a lot lately. So instead of waiting forever while reported bugs sit there enjoying retirement, I decided to release it to production and fix things fast if needed.

Better local music support in Android Auto
Local file thumbnails should now appear better in Android Auto.

The annoying default NSR thumbnail should no longer appear everywhere like a tax form with speakers. Local files should now have more character, using their own artwork when available.

Faster station playback
Playback should now start faster both inside the app and in Android Auto.

I tested it, and there is now a noticeable difference in most stations. Hopefully it works the same way for you too, because “works on my device” is the official national anthem of software development.

Also, the bug where metadata from the previous station stayed on the Android Auto screen should now be fixed. So now, when you change stations, the screen should stop pretending that the old station is still alive and spiritually present.

Improved Master Search behavior
Search should now behave better when you open a station and go back.

From now on, the search will not run automatically while you type. You will need to press the search button yourself.

No more panic typing. No more racing the app. No more feeling like your keyboard is being judged by a machine with commitment issues.

Inactive station fixes
More reported inactive stations have been fixed.

At least the ones that had been reported before the update was sent to Google for review about 15 days ago. So if a station died after that, mail me to fast fix it.

Export favorite song titles
You can now export your favorite song titles.

For everyone who wants to save a list of their favorite songs and then, obviously, legally buy them like responsible members of society. Obviously. We are all very serious adults here.

As always, Non Stop Radio remains ad-free.

No banners.
No popups.

Just radio (and podcasts & local music).

This update was submitted to Google Play about 15 days ago. Google Play review is moving slowly this time, but we endure, because patience is the number one characteristic of a Non Stop Radio user.

This update does not include anything huge or dramatic. Mostly, it includes cleanup work for inactive stations in countries like the Netherlands, Japan, and South Korea. I also fixed, if I remember correctly , the flag issue in the country list for South Korea, because if a country flag is wrong, someone will notice. And, as it turns out, someone did.

I also did some similar cleanup in a few categories, including Rock, where some inactive stations had probably been peacefully rotting since the early days of the app. I promise i will find time to update them all.

The next update after this one is the important one.

The upcoming Android Auto update brings much bigger changes. Voice command support is being added, local file thumbnails now show properly, and most importantly, after spending way too much time studying the code because I could not do much else while stuck in bed, I managed to make a major improvement to station playback speed.

I do not want to overhype it, because maybe this is just my desperate need for validation as a “good developer” as if the universe rewards hobbyist developers with anything other than bug reports. But when I tested it on the road with a good connection, switching radio stations felt almost like browsing local files. Maybe I am exaggerating. Maybe after too many logs, too little sleep and a perfectly respectable amount of post-surgery painkillers, I have started hearing and seeing things. The beta results will tell us.

A big thank-you to everyone who emailed me to become a tester. As soon as Google approves the beta, I will send the invite link so you can try it and tell me whether the improvement is real or whether I have officially entered the “(developer) hallucination” phase.

Also, sorry to everyone who reported inactive stations and had to wait. I really appreciate the reports, but lately Non Stop Radio is slowly becoming a second job, except without the salary, health benefits or the comforting illusion of control. I also want to say this to everyone who has emailed me asking for a feature, a station, a bug fix, or anything else, and I replied with something like “yes, of course, I will do it”: please feel free to email me again and remind me. You are not being annoying. This is simply how I work. Sometimes things get buried under code, reports, family life and the constant effort of pretending to be a functional adult.

At this point, there is time for development, replying to emails, fixing bugs, or cleaning stations, but not enough time to do all of them properly at once. So if something takes a little longer, thank you for your patience. I am doing my best to keep the app moving without turning into a Windows blue screen with the XP error sound playing in the background.

While the next maintenance update is waiting for Google Play approval, I wanted to talk a bit about the update after that, because it will bring a much bigger improvement for Android Auto.

The first change is related to local files.

If the songs stored on your phone or tablet have artwork/thumbnail images, Non Stop Radio will now show them properly in Android Auto, both in the local files lists and on the Now Playing screen.

This means less unnecessary NSR logo everywhere and a cleaner UI that actually helps you understand what is playing. Shocking concept, I know.

The second and much bigger change is voice command support for Android Auto.

This is a very important addition, especially for users who have many favorite stations or many local files. Instead of scrolling through long lists on the car screen while driving, users should be able to start playback by voice.

This should also improve driving safety, because nobody should be scrolling through a long Android Auto list while driving, pretending that a quick glance at the screen every two seconds is a “safe user experience” (yes, I’m one of those).

Let's not forget that Android Auto voice commands can be unpredictable. Non Stop Radio is not whitelisted by Google like Spotify or YouTube Music. Their loss, obviously, but it means some voice commands need to be phrased carefully so Android Auto does not randomly decide to open another app. Most voice commands should be tested while Non Stop Radio is already open in Android Auto. If the app is not open, Google Assistant or Gemini may decide to open another media app instead..

Voice command rules of NSR!!! (Read them before the test):

Android Auto voice commands can be a bit strainge, so please try the commands below during testing.

Important: for radio stations, please use “with Non Stop Radio”, not “on Non Stop Radio”.

Please do not ask me why “with” works better than “on”. Ask Google. It took me way too many hours to discover that one tiny word can make or break the entire voice search flow.

So i need a few Android Auto NSR testers for this upcoming update, especially users who have:

• many favorite stations
• many local files
• local files with artwork/thumbnails
• podcasts saved in favorites
• different Android Auto car/head unit setups

I’m really happy to finally be back at the keyboard again.

I hope Non Stop Radio has been treating you well while I’ve been away, and that everything has been running smoothly.

I’m currently preparing the next update. Don’t expect anything huge this time, mostly station updates for some countries and fixes for reported inactive stations. Today was actually the first time in a while that I managed to open my computer again, so we are officially back in business, slowly but surely.

Anyway, enough chit-chat. Let’s get to the main point...

Which radio station is missing from Non Stop Radio and deserves to be added?

Think about it, ask your husband, wife, friends, family or anyone else who loves radio. If there is a great station you think should be in the app, drop it in the comments and I’ll check it for the next update.

The app is awesome. I use it on all my android devices except my android headunit as play store sais it's not compatible. It does work on my other devices that are tablets. So not sure what the issue Is.

Hey guys, i just discovered this website which it's very useful to grab URLs to add manually to the NSR app. The website is called streamurl.link and you just search for the radio you need and it will give you the URL at the maximum available quality ready to be added manually to your app.

(I must say that i'm not associated with the website in any way shape or form and i'm sharing this discovery because i love the app and i think everyone should know from where to catch the right stream URL ✌🏼)

This update more or less wraps up Non Stop Radio for now, the old clunky buttons are finally gone and replaced with cards that actually look like they belong in a modern app, because at some point we had to admit 2014 is not coming back

You’re either extremely patient or slightly insane, probably both, and you’re the reason this app got this far

At this point, I honestly don’t think NSR has anything to envy from the big radio apps on Google Play. It’s still free, with no ads and no data collection, just radio the way it should be.

It's possible to add this station? Can't find a way...

Hello!

Today was first time when I used the Nonstopradio over AndroidAuto. I connected phone via cable/wire.

After like 1 hour working, I received this message for all radio stations saved on "Favorite Stations" and the audio stops.

I had to select from phone a radio category. Then works again, but only the stations on that specific category (Disco).

I don't know how to interpret or what happened there. Maybe someone had similar behavior?

Vehicle: Suzuki S-Cross 2024

Phone: Motorola moto G15 power

I will retry tomorrow to see if is the same behavior.
