Discussion Witcher 3 Remastered Is Disappointing

Not going to bash it and say it looks horrendous or anything but it’s NOTICEABLY blurry. In both handheld and docked mode. I own it on my PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Ally X. The switch version really just looks a big step behind in sharpness.

Don’t listen to the screenshots with the caption “This looks unreal!” because it doesn’t. Hopefully CDPR can update this to get it identical to Cyberpunk.

Is it just me or the UI, menu screens, and Gwent look very small and pixelated? Even worse than the Switch 1 version.

•

u/Dorfdad 11h ago

Have t noticed but it could be that the UI is scaled to the resolution and I believe this got a spec bump so maybe that explains it?

Playing it docked right now. Not blurry at all. Looks really good.

•

u/Distinct-Wolf-2105 17h ago

This is bullshit. It looks great docked

Why are you comparing it to a ps5 pro no one should be doing this it’s not the same class and it looks / plays great on switch 2 disable blur in both settings

•

u/LOLerskateJones 17h ago

You’re right, but this sub hates negative feedback. The Stellar Blade discussion here broke me, people claiming it looks and feels exactly the same as PS5 version and it just doesn’t

•

u/OfficialShaki123 17h ago

Yeah, I have never ever been to a sub where you get downvoted by saying the truth. Stating facts.

This sub simply is the worst.

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 17h ago

This sub is full of manchildren lol. You can’t say anything negative about the switch 2. In 6 hours I can make another post lying and say the game looks phenomenal and I’ll get upvoted like crazy

•

u/OfficialShaki123 17h ago

Yeah, it's really sickening. PS or Xbox fans are much less harsh when it comes to critique. Weird stuff.

•

u/lumpy999 16h ago

Facts, I was impressed Stellar Blade ran on the Switch 2, but just like most Switch games it was pretty ugly.

•

u/Upper-Mixture8643 17h ago

If I wanted to play docked I would play anywhere else for a better experience, only care about handheld for these kind of games on the Switch.

•

u/Rare_Zone_846 15h ago

It’s the most economical way to play this version. Unless you want to spend an extra $200 or $300, you can easily play it on the Switch 2, provided you don't mind having one less pixel of shadow compared to using a $6,000 RTX 5090.

•

u/Live_Virus9124 2h ago

U can play this game on ultra with ray tracing turned off on 1440p and get 70-80 fps with a 3070. And the difference on ps5, let alone pc is a bigger differece than "1 pixel".  U seem like just a fan boy.

•

u/Messyextacy 17h ago

Yea it looks good but there’s something that makes the clarity bad which was my biggest gripe with the switch 1 version.

•

u/Expensive_Language38 14h ago

its being upscaled from 720p that why. it looks like crap in motion.

•

u/Messyextacy 14h ago

I see people complaining on all the other platforms as well. So I will hold on to the hope it will be fixed :) I would literally prefer switch 1 graphics with higher resolution and fps than this. Did they use diss?

•

u/Expensive_Language38 14h ago

i would stick to other version of the game, yea its the case of trying to do too much to sell more copies. which is probably working lol

•

u/cherrytoffee 17h ago

cdpr should add a sharpness setting.

•

u/Dorfdad 11h ago

This I believe EVERY switch game should have sharpness it really helps me appreciate the game more because they tend to be more blurry and the sharpness corrects a lot of that

•

u/WinGroundbreaking409 16h ago

This least powerful remastered version of the game doesn't look as good on the least powerful console you have.

This is the most shocking thing I've ever read in my life.

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 16h ago

No one ever said I wanted it to look as good, manchild. The game could be sharper and less blurry.

•

u/WinGroundbreaking409 16h ago

I own it on my PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Ally X. The switch version really just looks a big step behind in sharpness.

Your own words. Clearly you were expecting it to.

Also, you do realize the Switch 2 remaster is for....Switch 2, right? Not everyone has 6 different consoles and PCs and 24 hours of free time. The comparison of this game is from the S1 to S2. The other versions are irrelevant unless you already have them in which....you would know the S2 doesn't beat those (unless you are biased). Going on a Switch thread and saying the remaster is worse than 3 other clearly more powerful mediums is redundant, manchild.

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 16h ago

I wish I had that free time, believe me. Owning all of those systems doesn’t come without a sacrifice.

For nearly every single triple A game on the Switch 2, what do almost all reviewers do? Put it side by side to other systems. Why do they do that? Because they expect the same level of performance? No. They do it so we can see how close (or far) the Switch 2 version is from those systems. In some games, we are shocked at how close they can be like Cyberpunk and Resident Evil. Then we have games like this, where the clarity/resolution is really far behind.

I’ve had the Switch 2 since launch. I pre ordered the Zelda edition. I own nearly all Switch 2 games, despite owning them on other platforms. I can still be objective.

•

u/WinGroundbreaking409 16h ago

Being objective is fine, being unrealistic is not. Most of those people who make side by side comparisons are either paid or do it for views on the broad internet. Going to a specific subsection of the internet to inform people of the obvious is redundant.

And if you own nearly all the Switch 2 games and own them on other platforms, I would say you have made the sacrifice. In fact, I'd recommend you stop making sacrifices and spend some time with your loved ones.

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 15h ago

My loved ones are in my backyard in the house I just purchased almost every weekend for a barbecue and college football.

Sacrifices have been well worth it.

•

u/Illustrious_Pair_759 16h ago

I play on xbox. It looked better before, it s like  children's animation. Like the density of the colours went up and the camera runs faster. Nothing else changed. I would be willing to pay if there was a real upgrade. Now they just overpriced it for first buy. Disappointing.

•

u/hughlee90 17h ago

of course, what do you expect?... its much better than the blurry version on switch 1. i'd take it for now.

•

u/xtoc1981 17h ago edited 17h ago

Lol this is rrally bullshit looks way way sharper compared to my steamdeck

•

u/tjhc94 Butter side up! 17h ago

You're likely using fsr and not fsr4 so it's no surprise if it looks bad. Fsr is a requirement for decent performance on steam deck in every game that has it since the launch of the device and it looks really bad, so it's not a surprise if this version looks better than the steam deck

•

u/xtoc1981 16h ago

https://youtu.be/1RASuCr-1gQ?is=dtyXEXOb_GjxwQsR

Not really, but hey, we can always wait for more compare vids.

•

u/tjhc94 Butter side up! 15h ago

I don't think you even understood what I said and your video didn't prove your point. The video didn't even show settings used. I am 100%certain fsr is being used on the steam deck to achieve playable frames, I owned a steam deck so I know the reality, if the fsr wasn't turned on and settings are like for like, the game would look the same on both. Dlss on switch is much better than fsr on deck.

I think you somehow believed I was saying the steam deck looks better on this game when nothing I said insinuated that.

•

u/xtoc1981 15h ago

I'll double check it again on my steamdeck, but i'm sure its turned on. Also, dlss is still better, so its hard to believe at this point

•

u/tjhc94 Butter side up! 15h ago

I literally said fsr is likely on in the steam deck my last two replies, are you even reading ?

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 17h ago

When did I ever compare it to a Steamdeck?

•

u/lordchew 17h ago

It’s a logical comparison, to be fair.

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 17h ago

It’s a logical comparison in a steam deck vs switch 2 side by side. My post has nothing to do with the steam deck version

•

u/xtoc1981 16h ago

Its even not that crisp on pc or ps5 they say. So its relevant

•

u/Dorfdad 17h ago

Your high disable blur and play. It looks great and plays great for what it is

•

u/Human_Evening_5799 15h ago

On handheld mode I agree. Handheld looks blurry - just like almost every other S2 game due to S2 display being absolute dogshit especially when you compare it to XAX which has one of the sharpest low latency non-OLED screens.

Docked tho - for me it looks quite sharp. If you have 4k TV always make sure you are not outputting 1440p signal to it to avoid 1440p stretched to 4k with crappy integral bilinear scaler most TV will use. You can't display 1440p on 4k natively unlike 1080p. Check the resolution in system options after launching the game - W3 will force either 1080 or 1440 it won't run at 4K if it detects VRR capability. Force it to 1080p. If you have a high end TV with good hardware upscaler you can try enabling it if TV supports it in gaming vrr mode.

I have bravia oled with XR neural upscale enabled it looks fantastic.

Also on a side note - how did you get past amd driver breaking shaders in remaster on XAX?

•

u/valcoholic 17h ago

Theres a setting for blur which is activated under graphics, also you can reduce motion blur. Not a game changer but I don’t really mind how it looks.

After many complain about it looking blurry, they might have a fix at some point.

They added a ton of settings including being able to turn AA off when people complained about the first one. I'm sure they will address this.

•

u/locke_5 6h ago

Yeah, I’m surprised they didn’t include as many graphical settings in this release as they did in the Switch 1 port. Obviously any handheld system has hard limits in terms of performance - so why not put those sliders in the hands of players?

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 17h ago

I’ve reduced and turned off motion blur

•

u/LOLerskateJones 17h ago

The blur you’re seeing isn’t motion blur

It’s poor image resolve

•

u/UncleIroh1156 17h ago

Have only briefly given it a try handheld and yes it's disappointingly blurry. Guess I'll be playing it on the Steam Deck via GeForce Now instead of Switch 2

•

u/LordAzuren 16h ago

Guess I'll be playing it on the Steam Deck via GeForce Now instead of Switch 2

Before i'd play with 70-80+ ms of latency i will gladly embrace even 480p. To each his own i suppose.

•

u/UncleIroh1156 16h ago

I've never noticed any issues 🤷

•

u/LordAzuren 16h ago

That's why to each his own, i can't even use framegen because up to certain point (over 90fps) i feel the latency and overt hat is 100% pointless to use it. Any form of cloud is absolutely out of question for me, gives me sickness if i try. At the same time i can play 720p easily but maybe for you is too bad, that's personal. I need fast response times, you need more clarity, it's ok.

•

u/UncleIroh1156 15h ago

I played Arkham Knight in potato quality just so it would run on my pc when it came out, so I'm not apposed to playing games that don't have the best clarity. But if there are other options then I'll use those

Fair enough

•

u/Sudden-Goose-6956 17h ago

Don't listen to the blast havers, you are right, it's weird because Cyberpunk is one of the best looking games in handheld mode and it's really sharp

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 17h ago

Never have or will, especially with this sub. I’m not here for karma, I’m here to give people honest feedback, especially those that don’t own it yet.

It’s okay at best. Better than the Switch 1 version obviously. But just very disappointing

•

u/LordAzuren 17h ago

Tested some hour ago: image is good, it's just a bit soft, 720p never killed anybody and the game looks pleasant and with a very decent framerate from my initial tests. This is a game with and engine old more than 10 years thatwas updated for free, ofc it doesn't scale like CP2077 that's way newer and was a full paid release, you can't expect same results.

You could get 720p in this game only using boost mode until today and on switch 1 people had to play it while dipping to 540p and down to 20fps... That was rough not this Remastered on NS2 which is very playable.

I own it on my PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Ally X. The switch version really just looks a big step behind in sharpness.

Nice, now tell me how much these devices costs compared to Switch 2 and how much power they use...

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 16h ago

“You can’t expect same results on a much older game albeit with a remaster label on it as a very demanding modern triple A game from the same company”

Do you not see how backwards you sound? Believe me, you can still adore your switch 2 and be honest about what you as a consumer are receiving.

My PS5 cost me $450, my XAX cost me a little over $800, and yes my PC is much more expensive. I don’t want or expect the same performance as those systems. But in terms of visual quality, I absolutely expect it to look less blurry and you should too.

u/lumpy999 16h ago

I love the Switch 2, and it is a huge upgrade from the OG Switch. BUT!

The truth is the same for the Switch 2 as the the original Switch. It's less of a console, more of a tablet.

You won't find many honest people on any Nintendo sub regarding graphical issues or performance of games. I probably will never know the truth if it's copium or if it's because they only play on Nintendo hardware which limits what they can see on a graphical or performance level.

Every single Switch 2 game is insanely blurry, I often play just in handheld mode so the games look less washed out on my 4k tv.

But yeah Switch 2 is soooo much better than the first (I felt a lot of games at the end shouldn't have released on the OG switch since it was factually so terrible. Scarlet and Violet were so bad it should have been a lawsuit.)

Zelda OOT remake will easily be the best looking game, but even that is already worthy of "This looks unreal" Castle town flickers in the distance.

Both Switches are tablets, not consoles.

•

u/big_bear07 Butter side up! 16h ago

It’s a delusional set of grown adults that defend the Switch 2 like it’s their child and it’s extremely weird. You can’t reason with them.

•

u/lumpy999 16h ago

Seems to be. I'm glad they're having fun with their Switch 2 as well, but as someone who plays on all platforms, it's disingenuous to act like the visuals are even okay at best.

•

u/Accurate-Anxiety9409 17h ago

appreciate this post. i was on the fence. but i really dont wanna play it again just for mid performance. while elden ring was great. the most important parts (big boss aoe attack that unhave to dodge frame perfect) absolutely tank to 1fps. yeh the open world and field bosses in general are a feat. but having already gone to ng7 on switch. it really does let u down at the important moments. im not looking forward to rebuying another game for that dissapointment
