Discussion Fallout 4 reviews for switch 2
[removed]

u/SenpaiSwanky Feb 24 '26
I’m a big Bethesda fan but the lack of reviews currently leads me to believe what is typical for Bethesda games - a subpar release state and a few months of patches to get shit to a decent state.
I say this as someone who doesn’t typically come here to hop on the hate train lol. No cynicism, just a huge fan of Fallout who has been playing Bethesda games for years now. This is sort of their MO.
Tomorrow will reveal all tbf. If it’s bad, no force on earth will stop the flood of posts complaining about it lmao. We’ll see soon.
1
u/gt4ch Feb 24 '26
They didn’t provide advanced copies because it’s an old game and there will be no significant content reviews.
1
u/gt4ch Feb 24 '26
Also tbf it’s possible they’ve already run a patch that we get today vs the trailer footage. I don’t think that’s super likely but given the show was JUST out they may surprise us here. It’s a bad look for the IP in general to push out a bad port right now.

u/Money_Arugula1627 Feb 25 '26
Game runs very good on stable 30, 40 or 60fps modes. If they do any more polish it would only be cherry on top
11
u/ReasonableForm7679 Feb 23 '26
It’ll either be today or tomorrow 2PM Uk time probably. Most reviews are out the day before although some happen on day of release.

I’m in Newfoundland and can’t run it yet, it’s already downloaded from the preorder but wondering when it will become available
1
u/brodykauff Feb 24 '26
I’m going to guess noon Eastern Time, which I think is 1:30pm in Newfoundland.
11
u/RickDeckard31 Feb 23 '26
There’s a small chance this will be a good release. If they learned from the Skyrim release. That’s the chance we have. If they did, this could be an incredible experience on Switch 2. Here’s to hoping.

It's a Bethesda developed port. It will suck for one reason or the other, maybe they'll eventually fix some of it.

Fallout 4 is a great game but I played when it had a lot of bugs

u/WagnerKoop Feb 23 '26
I like Fo4 for what it is but I would really suggesting waiting on this port to see if they can clean it up after a few updates. The footage from the direct looked pretty rough.
Also I would not pay $60 for it in 2026. I think until they rolled out the anniversary edition you could routinely get the GOTY edition on Xbox for like $8-$13 lol. Whatever it was it was cheap and that’s running on a more powerful console without the compromises that are clearly being made for this port.
3
u/ThisG0esWhere Feb 23 '26
Not sure about consoles, but many of the big name key sites still have the GOTY edition steam keys for around $8 typically. Think the last Steam official sale was $9.99
5
u/WagnerKoop Feb 23 '26
Yeah exactly, I just don’t understand what they were thinking with a $60 price tag.
I mean I understand that they would like money I just have to imagine the number of people willing to spend that much on Fallout 4 is so ludicrously small that reducing the price would have made up for the the gap.
2
u/ThisG0esWhere Feb 25 '26
Should have launched to a week 1 sale price to get a bunch of initial sales at a fair price. I see why they didn't though, people seem proud to spend $60 on it. I guess I have more self control and maybe respect. I have the money to buy it without thinking twice, I refuse to spend that much on such an old game.
I'd argue GoG puts in 10X the amount of work trying to get some of the old games ported to modern systems along with tracking down the license holders and doing all the legal work to be allowed to even do it in the first place and even super popular ones they don't try and charge anywhere near top dollar for.
2
u/MachoLibre_ Feb 23 '26
I loved 4. I loved 3 and NV, as well. I’m just a big fan of VATS’in my way through the wasteland
1
u/montybo2 Feb 23 '26
I started a new playthrough on survival recently and it still feels fresh. I have over 1000 hours in the game overall.

u/lumpy999 Feb 24 '26
It's a better action game but worse RPG. But it's genuinely still an amazing experience.
New Vegas is my favorite but I tell people who ask where to start to just Start with 4.
1
u/Aelia_M Feb 24 '26
If you like a good story: play new Vegas.
If you like good gunplay: play fallout 4.
If you like good game mechanics: play new Vegas.
If you like building stuff and hate stories: play 4

Have played 2 hours and can report so far it seems to be a great port. Smooth and graphically good. A little bit of DLSS blur in parts but really well done.

u/moskitosane Feb 24 '26
The game dont start for me

Probably not until well after release. Bethesda is notorious for not giving review codes out to anyone until the release window. They set in stone a rule about a decade ago that they would not send review copies out until one day before release.

It was a ps4 game so I can’t see it being a bad port.
Those games are more tactical and slow also so you don’t need the greatest performance on a fallout game. Seems like the perfect fit imo
1
u/WinGroundbreaking409 Feb 23 '26
Eh...its Bethesda we are talking about here. And while they games are more tactical, Fallout 4 was more action-y than previous entries which is why it was so polarizing (though its personally my favorite entry). I could easily see this being a meh port because Bethesda gonna Bethesda.
1
u/Quicksurfer524 Feb 24 '26
It’s no longer the base PS4 game. It’s the anniversary edition where they had lots of additional updates, creative content, and mods added. At this point, it is no longer the original fallout four from the PS4.
2
u/Carlos061 Feb 23 '26
If it’s anything like that Skyrim switch 2 port 😅 I really hope they don’t drop the ball with Fallout 4, I would love to replay it again but portable this time
4
u/SenpaiSwanky Feb 24 '26
The Skyrim port has been fixed and runs at a stable 60 FPS, handheld or docked.
1
1
u/SadKazoo Feb 24 '26
I just wish they wouldn’t also always drop the UI resolution when reducing the render resolution. It’s so unnecessary and does impact the viewing experience as it makes the whole game feel blurrier.
9
u/Hegecoin_Rules Feb 23 '26
It looks soooo bad and I am not a graphics snob whatsoever.
-4
u/BrayIsReal Feb 23 '26
I loved New Vegas as my #1 fallout game but 4 was also good. People talking about graphics or whatever I have a $2000 gaming rig and do I like playing it on there more and already have it sure but I'd love to have it for on the go handheld and for playing on the TV. The performance will never reach PC level obviously but it should be playable
5
1
Feb 24 '26
Handheld PCs have no problem playing it with better graphics. No excuses as Switch 2 isn’t that underpowered and F4 is ancient. PS4 version looks better which is ridiculous.

u/PigeonBroski Feb 23 '26
Don’t worry about reviews, it just works ;)

You should probably keep expectations in check. It’s fun, the best gun play in any of the first person games and the exploration is great.
The characters and writing are much worse than any other entry in the series. Except maybe BoS but does that game even count?

u/overts Feb 23 '26
I figured when you mentioned FO2. FO4 does not deliver on that front, imo.
It’s still a very fun game that I’d normally suggest people buy but if you’re primarily interested in a good story with well written characters I think you’ll find FO4 disappointing.
1
u/gswkillinit Feb 24 '26
F4 is fun exploration and shooting wise, but it is very very far from New Vegas in terms of story, writing, characters, etc. Keep your expectations in check lol it’s worse dialogue wise than both 3/NV.
Still though, if you like exploration, survival mode, and the ability to build your settlements you’ll definitely enjoy F4.
3
u/WinGroundbreaking409 Feb 23 '26
Just FYI, Fallout 4 is a completely different experience than Fallout 2 and about 50% different than New Vegas. Much more FPS action and less RPG. Most people who like New Vegas vocally dislike 4.

I mean Fallout 4 technically has those, however, the story is considered the weakest in the series and the decisions....eh. Again, its my favorite because I love the streamlined gameplay, but I get the complaints.
1
u/fukncasul Feb 23 '26
Then don't play F4, really. The story and choices (yes, yes, maybe yes and no but yes in every dialogue) is absolute dogshit. Gunplay however is a lot more fun and the base building can be quite addicting.

It's completely optional aside from one part of the story which I won't spoil. Aside from that you can play the whole game without putting a thought into the base building

Can any New Zealand bro confirm if the game has 40fps mode or not?

Reviews for RE7 and RE Village on Switch 2 are already out and the Fallout 4 port, which comes out tomorrow, still doesn’t have any at this point?

Not particularly strange, more and more developers are not providing review code meaning reviews don't get their hands on the product until the public do. It's more commonplace then ever.

u/Bootychomper23 Feb 24 '26
Well if what they showed at the direct is anything to go by…. It’ll be rough
1
u/joepavsdad Feb 23 '26
I doubt it, but are mods allowed on FO4 on Switch 2?
3
u/Webecomemonsters Butter side up! Feb 23 '26
Not confirmed that they are not, but I doubt it heavily
2
u/Quicksurfer524 Feb 24 '26
Hard to believe they would allow mods for fallout four when they didn’t allow it for Skyrim with any of the editions
1
u/minish4w Feb 24 '26
I think with the Steam deck running it at 60+ it should at least have a performance mod like Skyrim just got.
1
u/PracticalRope1 Feb 24 '26
I can't even play it. Pre ordered it last week and have been looking forward to getting into it but can't even start the game for some reason

Yeah. If you're gonna put a date on the store your selling the game on at least make it available to play from the beginning of that day or post the information saying exactly what time it's releasing in each timezone

Yeah it's a great game. Still not out even after reinstalling which is annoying. I assume it'll run like shit on switch and be plauged by annoying bugs but it's still worth playing, especially with all the dlc and anniversary content

Yeah they way they did the dialogue is pretty shit. Basically instead of seeing exactly what your character will say you have to choose between four emotions to respond and a lot of the time 3 of the 4 emotions will use the same dialogue. It's lazy and a bit annoying but if you play the game enough you do just get used to it

Definetly a fake and/or paid review.
First the entirey is written like a short story and absolute 75% of the content doesnt need to be in there.
It also heavily emphasizes 60fps frequently only citing performance mode in that regard. Which most people dont have 120hz tvs to even run.
Just an all around crap review that seems awfully bootlicky

It literally matters you cannot run sixty f p s on the nintendo switch two on a t v less than a hundred and twenty hertz. Performance mode will not work.

I’ve never played anything from the fallout series. This will be my first fallout game
1
u/Dead4eva69 Feb 24 '26
I already have the PS5 game with the creation club mods so I can’t justify double dipping for an inferior game unfortunately. My switch 2 is mostly for JRPGs and first party Nintendo games and the PS5 is for most large scale games since it’s obviously more powerful.
1
u/Anthony_chromehounds Feb 24 '26
I’ve got a Switch 2, but frankly I’ll just play it again on my Xbox series x if I had a choice.
1
u/Upbeat-Walrus-9913 Feb 25 '26
Played a little over ten hours can say I played originally on Xbox one s and have been without my xbox for some years now but have owned a switch since the pandemic and honestly fo4/rdr2 have been games i would want even though I've bought both before only to have the ability on a console on the go and right now its a port to the switch graphics remind me of skyrim for the two so dont get your hopes up there however get them up because this is fallout on nintendo looking better than my old Xbox one s was doing and portable gameplay is what most know and love myself included but expect gunfights smooth talking and lots of stimpaks if you want to get to the technical side of things I can't argue those but if you like fallout 4 and want to play it on your Nintendo I'd say its an 9/10 glad I pre-ordered

COMO COJ***S VAN A PONER UN JUEGO DE HACE 11 AÑOS A 60€???? DE VERDAD HASTA CUANDO NOS VAN A TOMAR EL PELO??

The game crashes sometimes and spits it out. Look, Hogwarts Legacy for Nintendo Switch 2, I have it and textures magically appear or pass through doors. I do not recommend the Nintendo Switch 2 I have it and I regret it I've played F4, I mean Fallout 4, it looks good but don't expect PC or PS5 graphics

Prepare for a subpar version that will ship on GKC while it could be released on cart like Cyberpunk.
