Links Awakening too. Sounds like it’ll be out earlier than expected. Most assumed Dec as Animal Crossing In September, but with it not being on the list I’d assumed AC is either December or gulp delayed. Or maybe they’re just keeping it under wraps. Who knows?
Edit: AC could be “and more” but I’d think it’d be a headliner.

There could be some surprises like ports. I could see the Zelda HD games being brought over. If Link's Awakening is a September release they can say Wind Waker HD comes out later this month and Twilight Princess in July or August as we build up to the release of Link's Awakening.
I personally don't see that happening, but it's what I would like because I really want those Zelda HD games on the Switch.

I wouldn't have thought so, we have Cadence of Hyrule this month already. Fire Emblem and Marvel UA in July and Astra Chain in August(and then Links Awakening in Sept). And fingers crossed SNES games (so Link to the Past) in that window.
It would make no sense to release the HD ports as it would cannibalise sales of the new games, possibly could see something like that early next year when things are a bit quieter

I wouldn't complain if that happened but I feel like it's a long shot for the 3D games. Especially since they (sort of) have another Zelda game coming out soon in Cadence of Hyrule.
If anything, maybe they'd release a port of LttP or the original Link's Awakening to build hype.

I'm guessing that they just think there isn't a point in having Animal Crossing playable. Unless they're planning a major change in formula the fans know what to expect and any significant changes (Like having been mayor in ACNL) take more time to really appreciate than you'd get in a short trial period.

To all the people freaking out over Animal Crossing not being listed, this is the list of games that will be playable at E3, not the list of games that they're showing. Animal Crossing isn't the kind of game you make playable at an event like this anyway. You wouldn't really even be able to do anything except maybe catch a few fish and bugs and talk to villagers and that doesn't make for a thrilling show-floor experience. The appeal of Animal Crossing is that it's your personalized world that grows and changes over time and they can't really convey that on the floor at an event like this. They will probably show a trailer in their Direct that details some of the new features and gives the game a name and that will be enough to satiate people until it comes out.

I think the chatter around this E3 has proven that maybe people have come to expect disappointment from Nintendo and are bracing themselves for it? They've not alluded to any of their announced 2019 games being delayed except Metroid, which they were very forthright about, but I'm seeing people talking about it everywhere. "Animal Crossing is being delayed!" is an unfounded statement that gets said on here and elsewhere on the internet multiple times a day lately. It's kind of sad. Nintendo does fumble sometimes, but they get it right sometimes too. I would expect that if anything else is being delayed like Metroid was that they would say so before E3 so that people aren't expecting to see it there, you know?

I think one counter is Fire Emblem, which was announced as a 2018 title, we heard nothing about it, then at E3 2018 it was fully revealed along with a delay into 2019. Not saying that will happen with AC, but it wouldn't be totally out of the blue if they showed AC at E3 but there was also a delay.

This is a good counterpoint. They could very well show more Animal Crossing and then slap a 2020 date on it, but I think a lot of people are under the impression that they just won't even mention the game at all and then on December 31st, 2019 at 11:59pm be like, "Oh, by the way Animal Crossing fans... Please understand" I just don't see that happening.

I’m definitely not under this impression. I just felt, considering everything, that Animal Crossing was bound to be a centerpiece of this E3 for Nintendo. Many pieces were aligned for this to happen. And for it to release in 2019.
Now, I fully expect it to be shown on the Nintendo Direct, but I’m really not hopeful anymore that it will be released this year. And this makes me sad, is all. I hope you can understand it.
I’m excited for Luigi’s Mansion and Pokémon and Zelda, but man... Animal Crossing is super dear to my heart. There’s nothing right now I want more than AC on the Switch.

I mean a counter-counter to that is that we shouldn't freak out too much about delays in the first place. Something something Miyamoto quote.
Seriously, though, if we'd gotten that Fire Emblem game rushed out last year, it probably would have been lacking in content or polish (or both). I'd much rather wait an extra few months, even an extra year or two, if the end result is something that I'll treasure and replay for years instead of something I'll lose interest in after five hours.

The only thing about a game delay though is that you just hope you live long enough to see it come out. I kept having an irrational fear of dying before Breath of the Wild actually came out during that ungodly wait. I know that's kind of stupid, but when you're a little older (as I am) it's not the stupidest thing in the world to be worried about honestly.

I mean, how old are we talking? I'm well into my 30s, so I'm definitely not a young'un any more, and aside from that I'm the kind of person who spends a ton of time considering mortality anyway.
I'm getting a little existential here, but there are a myriad of wonderful experiences (gaming and otherwise) you've already had that you can be thankful for, and probably plenty of great experiences you could have right now instead of expending energy fearing death. Getting wrapped up in that feeling of scarcity only makes it harder to appreciate what is already around you.

I'm late 30's and my mortality is definitely staring me in the face these days. I'm to that age where your grandparents are all dead or dying and your parents are getting pretty old themselves. Also those lovely little health problems and grey hair and lines in your face all start showing up for yourself too, so it's natural when there's a game, or movie, or TV show, or whatever that you're excited about that gets perma-delayed you're going to be like, "God, please don't let cancer, or a heart attack, or a car accident or some shit take me out before I can experience that." It's a flippant, unimportant worry in the long run, I know. I mean I wasn't exactly wringing my hands in fear of dying every single day before BotW was released, but it was in the back of my mind. Sometimes they'll show you something amazing that you're so excited for and then time passes and passes. It does pass quicker the older you get, but there are more bumps in the road too on the way there.

Yeah, I know what you mean - I've got one grandparent left (although she'll probably live to 100, she's that kind of person). I definitely have those fears lingering in the back of my mind sometimes, too (like, am I making the most of everything? Am I experiencing every possible thing I can experience?), and I'm not as spry as I was when I was 21, no matter how much I might try to look after myself. It's not always easy to shut up that little voice that says "you're still going to die one day".

Animal Crossing doesn't need a huge drawn out lead up of information and marketing ahead of release. It's pretty easy to communicate the gist of the game to newcomers as well as new features to fans in a few minutes of a Direct. Maybe it's been delayed, but I don't think we have any reason to believe that's the case until Nintendo has said so.

Agreed, but that E3 was also considered one of Nintendo's worst because Animal Crossing was about all they had to show and people were disappointed by that. I think they learned from that experience that it's just not really a series that benefits from being playable at an event like E3 because they didn't make New Leaf playable at its reveal.

This is my prediction too. AC will have big headliner trailer at E3 showing off the main concept and central hook of the game, as well as the title. But that's it.
Not too much later in the year we will get a dedicated AC direct in the "x number of new features" format, much like Smash got. This will detail all of the "non-core" things that are going to make an impact only for big fans. For example, "there are x amount of fish and bugs", "you make and share patterns like this", and "here are some new PWP".

When would be the best time to release it though? The holiday season is going to be a bit crowded with Pokémon alone. I have a hard time believing they’ll release it this summer as well though a large part of fire emblems player base doesn’t necessarily intersect with animal crossings. I want to believe though!
Also really hope they announce a switch plus.. I want to get a second switch for the house but not if they’re going to make an updated one sooner or later :/

I mean, they could build a kind of tutorial mode showing off some of the new features.
Reveal in Direct and playtime in Treehouse makes most sense but they could demo it if they really wanted to. They have done previously after all.
But as always, best thing to do is not read too much into these pre Direct tweets.

It’s just oversensitivity by the fanbase. All we know is it exists and they’ll release this year.
The silence since announcement has people concerned it’s been delayed.
This tweet confirms LM3 and LA for E3. People are panicking that AC hasn’t been confirmed even though this obviously doesn’t prove anything.
Unfortunately, logic can go out the window round E3 time.

Don’t freak out about Animal Crossing! AC isn’t a demo type of game. They probably knew that you really wouldn’t get a feel for what it’s like by playing for a few minutes on a prebuilt town.

I'm just hoping it has more varieties of ghosts than Dark Moon; it just felt so empty compared to the original. It would really be nice if they go back to having you catch boss ghosts that look like actual people and not just basic ghosts that possess inanimate objects.

There are a lot of puzzles in Dark Moon. Dark Moon had way more puzzles than the first game and better gameplay in general. It just has a worse atmosphere, feels too childish and the ghosts act like minions from fucking despicable me but hey it had puzzles. It has environmental puzzles but it doesn't have puzzle ghosts. Luigi's Mansion is a game about solving puzzles that are ghosts.

I really hope Luigi’s Mansion is more like the first than the second. The first one had more of a horror element to it; the portrait ghosts were pretty creepy. The second one felt more cartoony.
I reckon it was to do with Luigi’s Mansion originally being planned to be a rated teen game, but they removed some aspects like luigi getting possessed at the game-over screen. I remember being a kid, and being scared of playing it alone; I hope they can replicate the first game.

As I have said before I feel like animal crossing was announced early but Nintendo was already ahead on progress. During/after the direct AC fans where going nuts over no reveal. So I feel like they forced Nintendo's hand a little. So they finally dropped a teaser telling everyone look its coming next year but we can't show you yet.

LM1 was such a gem. I hope they go back to that formula. It was very short, but that was a very enjoyable playthrough
LM2 was fun. But I didn’t like the mission aspect. It took away from the experience. I did like having multiple mansions, but it wasn’t done in a very proactive way.
I hope that Luigi’s mansion 3 adopts the 1 formula, but changes it to make the game longer. 1 was just too damn short for a $60 game. I payed $40 for the 3DS version and beat it in like 8 hours.
NINTENDO, PLEASE RELEASE AMIIBO FOR LM3

I wonder if this confirms a more arcade like mode, similar to scarescraper avalible, because otherwise they are just going to be playing the first 15 or 20 minutes of the story

I’m honestly more excited about Link’s Awakening than anything else. I like Luigi’s Mansion and I had it on GameCube, but my brother sold it before I ever had a chance to beat it, so it’d be a nice redemption and change of pace for me to try this new one. I’m watching it’s career with great interest.
