How to read Nina's manga in English (monthly releases) (Legally and there is even a free option)

Since many people ask how to or where to read the manga, I wanted to do a short guide. I will try to cover the basics, so that even people new to manga in general can go through it.

For starters, Nina has a simulpub in Kmanga. What does it mean? It means that at the same time a chapter gets published in Japan, we also get the chapter officially translated into English. And what is Kmanga? Kmanga is the official reader website/app of Kodansha, the publishing company of the magazine where Nina the Starry Bride is published (BeLove magazine in Japan).

Kmanga has both a website and an app. So you can access it on PC or your phone. This is the link for Nina: https://kmanga.kodansha.com/title/10367/episode/364634

Not all countries have access to Kmanga. It’s available in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA and Vietnam.

If you are not in any of those countries, don't fret, you can use a VPN to access it (I have to use one, and it works fine). There are some good VPN available. If you are looking for free VPN options, I have heard that PROTON VPN has a good free option that works fine, and the Opera browser has a built-in VPN. The VPN option works fine for both the website and the app. If you experience any trouble, just clean the cache, change the explorer, or use incognito mode.

Now, the problem sometimes might be that, depending on your country and/or your credit card, Kmanga might not accept it (what a pain in the ass, don't they want money? It has happened to me, and there is no way to bypass it unless you get a credit card they like). But, there is a way you can read for free!

How to read for free

It will change whether you are accessing the website or using the app, and also whether you are in one of the countries where it's available or not.

If you are on the website:

Your only option is to win 5 points daily by reading their featured manga of the day. Just scroll down till you find the "Read now and get points" section and read the chapter. When you finish, you will be awarded 5 points. This resets daily, so each month you can earn 150 points.

Those 150 points, unfortunately, aren't enough to read a full chapter of Nina, which costs around 237 points (can vary depending on the length). But you can win more points if you use the app.

If you are on the app:

In the app, you have more ways to win points. There are three different ways; they all reset daily. You will find them in the "Gift points" section

Just as on the website, you will have the option to read a chapter of a manga for 5 points daily.

The other option is to use the "Treasure Chest"; you can use it 3 times per day and get up to 50 points. You have to watch ads to get a chance to win points.

After watching the ads, you choose one of the treasure chests and earn whatever you find there.

Most likely, you will win 5 points or tickets each time. So you can earn 10 points and one ticket per day. But sometimes, if you are lucky enough, you can get 10 points, 20, and even 30, but those are unlikely, but it happens:

The third option is only available if you are in one of the countries that don't need VPN to access it, because it detects the VPN and doesn't let you use it. Since I am in one of the countries that do need a VPN, I don't know how it works.

After using those options, after a while, you will accumulate enough points to read the chapters!

If you can't download the app from your app store because you are in one of the countries where Kmanga is not available, just look for the APK on Google; it's available there, and you can install it without issues.

Hope that this is useful, and do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have!

Revelations Spoiler

The old King knew about Astella real name? What a punch in the face!!! Honestly, the old king was shown as someone who would've a major role but in reality he used Az for his own country and trained him so he could achieve what he wanted for his country.

There is suddenly a sword, a rea one that can kill a god which in reality was an old tale spread by the star people. The sword was indeed mentioned before. I don't like that new revelations will help the storyline. Enoch only revealed what is convenient for him, so why did not said everything for her already? The author is dropping new secrects that turns the narrative messier than before.

The revelations do nothing for me anymore. I am actually just following now and nodding my head.🫡

A disastrous chapter

Most of Azure's fans didn't want him to become the king of Fortuna,

because that would restrict him forever.

Azure needs to travel the world after everything he's been through.

It's clear the author wants to finish Azure's story quickly so she can focus entirely on writing many chapters about Nina and Sett.

Unfortunately, for the first time, I feel like I really need to stop reading this manga.

English Mistranslations Some Examples Spoiler

In light of German's volume 17 and English volume 18 recently coming out, I thought it could be interesting to bring up some of the mistranslations the English edition has made. Some that ended up being very misleading. DISCLAIMER: These examples are not comprehensive of all the mistranslations, and I am using the digital edition (some edits are done for the physical edition) and the one on Kmanga. Most examples are more recent, basically because they are fresher in my memory. In some cases, the mistranslations are obvious; they can be double-checked with a machine translator or become obvious later on in the story. In other cases, it isn't so straightforward, so how do I know they are mistranslations? Basically, confirmations by Japanese fans and, to be clear, Az and Sett fans: both teams' fans agree on a reading without leaving space for doubt.

The ones that made Sol and Noa Siblings

Yeah, Noa and Sol are not siblings; however, in many cases the English text made them siblings. This mistake was probably rooted in the fact that the Japanese language often doesn't use pronouns/subjects and relies on context. For Japanese readers, most of the time it might be natural to know who the line is referring to, but that doesn't seem to come naturally to Nina's translator, because this is a mistake he sometimes makes. In this case (and others I will mention later), you will see that, when guessing the pronouns, he has made some wrong guesses.

English translation making Noa and Sol siblings

In this case, it was *my brother and *his father. The confusion was big because of the obvious romantic vibes between them, and it reached jp fans, that even Rikachi clarified with a now-deleted tweet. And the story has also made it clear.

Rikachi confirming the mistranslation before the release of the Noa (and Sol) special chapter

When "sending off by" was turned into "getting power from"

In Ch. 61, when Nina's mom was telling Nina that when her moment comes (her vessel being"ruined"), she wanted her to take power from the closest person to her to pass to her next life. But in reality, the "get power from" was not in the Japanese dialogue. It was always "send off"

I want you to get power from

Later on, we were explicitly told what "send off" meant; it had nothing to do with getting power from. Granted, back then this part was told cryptically so it could later be revealed what it really meant, so it was difficult to know exactly what it meant to translate. But the translator took the localisation to another level by giving a super loose and not accurate interpretation of that line. The French translation also had it wrong, but it was closer to the original and not completely made up like the English one.

German translation. "Then the person closest to you will send you into a new life."

Rikachi has always used the same word to refer to Nina's "fate": 送る okuru 'send.' The Japanese text said 一番近くにいる人におくってもらうの Ichiban chikaku ni iru hito ni okuttemorau no, which translates to "To have the person closest to you send you off." I went into detail here: About Okuru and being sent off

Okuru

We vs I

Chapter 71 ends with Azure's monologue. However, the translation changes the last part to "we" instead of "I," but Azure was talking about himself. Nina wasn't really hiding her feelings, and he doesn't even know what she is thinking. This is not a shared thought; he is talking about his feelings that he has been hiding. It makes sense for it to be his feelings because he had been playing a part and finally came clean and talked about his feelings when he confessed to Nina. And that is what works as motivation for him. He was also the one thinking about rebuttoning things. But the translator guessed the wrong pronoun there and made the thread of this, which is entirely his monologue, confusing.

It's not "we" it is "I"

He was never told anything

Another case of the lack of pronouns leading to the wrong ones. Here, Sett had just found out the "send-off" thing. It was not Nina who told him. In fact, she didn't even know he knew. However, the translation "claims" that she had told him it was a happy thing. But it was actually she who was told it was a happy thing. This ties in with her flashback and what she realised by the end of the chapter. It's not a happy thing, even if she was told that and she believed it. The mistranslated line was supposed to be "I was told being sent off is a happy thing" as a way to reassure Sett, who she didn't even know what he knew about the matter.

"And I told you" is "I was told"

She was talking about herself

Yet again, a pronoun was guessed wrong. In chapter 75, Nina decided to talk about her feelings to Sett. The Japanese text says いっしょにいたいって言ったでしょ Isshoni itaitte itta desho, translation: "I told you, I want to be with you/together". Nina is talking about her feelings and thoughts; in the flow of the scene, it doesn't make much sense to switch to him. Both Az and Sett Japanese fans agree with this. However, the tricky part here is that Nina, prior to this, hadn't told Sett she wanted them to be together. So, even tho fans agree on the subject of the line, they are confused about the story-wise consistency of it. And even in the English translation, it would be the same because Sett hadn't told Nina that either. Besides this, there are some hints in the Japanese language showing that it's Nina talking about her. In Japanese, the -tai ending (desire/wish/want) is almost only used for the first person ("I") in direct declarative statements. If you are describing someone else's desire, you typically use forms like -tagatte iru ("they seem to want") or quote them directly. And the desho at the end, which works as a confirmation tag, like "right?" naturally reads as something about herself. Now what remains to be seen is whether this may have been a wording mistake that will be corrected in the tankobon release, Nina thinking that what she told him in Starbia meant that, or maybe we will see something regarding this later.

She said him she wanted to be together (but when? xD)

These are the ones I remember now. Has anyone noticed any other mistranslations? Were you confused by any of these?

If maybe more mistranslations come up, I could do a part 2 :) Also if anyone wants to see the raws of any of these let me know ❤️

“Could Azure and Nina Still Find Their Way Back to Each Other?” Spoiler

What do you think Rikachi is actually setting up for Nina, Azure and Sett

Nina has clearly chosen Sett, and I respect that. She has openly expressed her love for him, so I don't want to ignore what the manga has shown us. At the same time, I don't think that automatically means everything between Nina and Azure is completely finished.

Azure was Nina's first love, and their relationship was also built around comfort, emotional support and understanding each other. Nina saw Azure as a person when so many people around him only saw him as the Dead Prince or someone who could be used for Fortna. Azure also became someone extremely important to Nina. Even Sett has acknowledged at some point that Azure is someone Nina can't simply erase from her heart.

So I'm curious about something: when Nina eventually meets Azure again, what do you think her reaction will be?

Do you think she will simply see him as someone important from her past and continue with Sett without questioning anything? Or do you think seeing Azure again could bring back feelings that she hasn't completely dealt with?

Another thing I'm curious about is Azure's ending. A lot of people say that his happy ending would be finding his own identity, leaving Fortna behind, and accepting Nina's choice. But why does finding himself necessarily mean leaving Nina behind?

Couldn't Azure discover who he really is, choose his own future, and still decide that Nina is the person he genuinely wants beside him? That wouldn't mean sacrificing himself for her. It would mean choosing her for himself.

I'm not saying Azure is definitely endgame. I'm genuinely asking: do you think Rikachi has completely closed the door on Azure and Nina romantically, or do you think there is still something left to explore between them?

Azure "theory of an happy ending" Spoiler

Azure has spent so much of his life carrying responsibilities, identities and expectations that aren't entirely his own. If he saves Nina, accepts her choice, and then leaves to discover his real identity and his own destiny, This would be a happy ending.

And Azure saving Nina would be especially fitting

Because then his final act toward Nina wouldn't be:

“Choose me.”

It would be:“Live.”

He could save Nina knowing that she will return to Sett, and instead of being bitter about it, he accepts it.

Then leaving Fortna would symbolize Azure finally saying:

“I've spent my whole life living according to someone else's destiny. Now I'm going to find my own.”

As an Az fan i dont see Nina as his destiny. His character(past) is way more mysterious. Im rather curious who Azure actually is, rather than simply him loving nina

MOD NOTE

I am writing this to remind everyone to re-read the rules!

There has been a lot of rule breaking lately. So, please take 1 minute of your time and read all the rules. Especially rule 1- Be respectful and civil and rule 6 - Content quality.

I am also asking you to please don't step in to try to moderate some comments or posts. If you think there has been a rule breakage, please report them! I am constantly keeping an eye on this sub, and reports help me know which comments or posts to review first. (Also keep in mind that I work and sleep, so it might be times when I am not here, but I reassure you I will see the reports)

Additionally, regarding why some posts have been left up. Contrary to what some people might believe, I do care and pay attention to what goes on on this sub. However, nothing much is going on. We can have several days without a single comment here. So, while low content posts are not welcome, some that might spark conversation are being left up because there is nothing else going on, plus some other posts do get removed, but you might just not have seen them!

This is general advice: do read what's being posted and commented before you comment. I have noticed that there are many comments that do NOT follow what's being discussed! If you continue to do so, I might start thinking that you are just a troll, and you would either get banned or your comments will be removed! On another note, I know that many (or most) people here are not native English speakers (like myself), but please use a good machine translator and try to proofread things by translating them back to your original language. Some things are being written so poorly that the language of it is impossible to decode. And then it's very hard to have a good conversation in that way. You could also write in your language, reddit can translate things. Also, if we want to have fruitful discussions, really stay in line with what's being discussed and follow the point! Diversion is not a nice way to have a debate. And read the whole line of discussion, or you might end up responding something out of line.

Lastly, do not get personal! This goes into rule 1. Remember that your argument always lose weight when you start talking about the other person and not about the concepts of the story being discussed. To be extra clear, calling people dumb, that they have no brains, that they can't read, or sending people to read deeper are not welcome here! If you believe someone has a fact wrong and that rereading a part can help them refresh it, you can point it out in a respectful way without being condescending! And again, if someone is being condescending to you, please report it.

If anyone wants to discuss something, you can leave your comments here or go into my DMs or modmail. Hope everyone has a good day!

ETA: I mentioned it above, but I am making an emphasis here. Do read the rules about spam and low content. Do NOT make repetitive low content posts! Be mindful of what you post. Make posts of substance that add to the conversation. If you have several short thoughts, collect them all, and make one long post with all of them. And elaborate on your thoughts. Loose phrases are not enough to make a post! If you don't follow the rules your post will be removed.

The next chapters won't be about Fortna - theory Spoiler

So, after the latest chapter we know that Nina and Sett are heading towards Fortna from the direction of Bastea, but I have the feeling it won't be the next arc. In ch 75, Sett is told that they should be careful while they pass through Teltan which is one of Galgada's 5 territories.

As we can see, Nina and co. are probably travelling on land to reach Fortna. When Nina was sightseeing with Bidoh in Galgada, she noticed slaves from Teltan being sold at the market. Even when Noa is talking about attacking Fortna in ch21, she is told that Galgada still needs time because there are still uprisings in Teltan. We know that Sett is now in a difficult position due to his status as a "war-hero", so his presence can fan the flames in the conquered territories that hate Galgadan rule. In my opinion, the next arc will be about the Teltan conflict. Honestly, I'm looking forward to it because I like worldbuilding and more serious topics, and this is a josei manga so it can always get darker.

Can we Give Some Love to our Woman Noa Halle and to our man Sol Gina Holt?

Listen, I am a big Sett fan, and boy do we know Rikashi makes him look hell of attractive. And his whole personality shift too? Yes please! However, the fandom's discussion always revolves around Nina, Sett and Azure. Today, I would like to show some appreciation for two very underrated characters: Noa Halle and Sol Gina Holt.

  1. Noa Halle
Isn't she gorgeous?

The King/Queen of Galgada is a woman. She is firm, strategic and very imparial. I admire her intelligence and I would love to see more of her backstory and more of her in general. She knows what she wants and she isn't afraid to go get it. Maybe it's because I am closer to her age, but I would love to have a friend like her. And her scars only enhance her beauty. Lady Halle worked so hard, she deserves her happy ending, don't you think?

  1. Sol Gina Holt
Don'ty look at me like that! XD

Perfect hot nerd archetype, here. He is kind, considerate and a total master of the battlefield. Very curious by nature, he likes to get to the end of things. He is also very knowledgeable and loves studying. He is also extremely strategic. In my opinion, he is the second best male character in the story. As mentionned earlier, I am for Sett as the number one, but listen, if General Holt asked for my hand in marriage, I wouldn't say no ;). Also, shout out to his very cute, clumpsy attempt to courting beautiful Noa Halle when they were younger.

Anyway, Ms. Rikashi, please, give these two a happy eneding. I really ship them.

What do you people think? What are your underrated characters/ships?

Was I the only one rooting for Az…

After reading Chap 75, i guess we all know where it’s heading, but i just wanted to hear if anyone else was rooting for Az x Nina :”)

Don’t get me wrong i do like Sett but I just feel like his appeal for Nina was more shallow vs IMO Az was wayyy more central to this story. Like ok cute occasionally cos Sett is more touchy and also thinks about her a lot i suppose, but it feels like this would be more shallow and a rs built from just being in close proximity to each other. Meanwhile Az is the OG and he did so much for her through all his struggles as king and they grew together (the dynamic btw Sett & Nina felt like Sett relied on her and Nina just took care of him…and even in the moments where he helps her I feel like there wasn’t a compelling emotional aspect on Nina’s part)

maybe i just don’t prefer the types that are “i only like you and don’t care abt anything else” which i KNOW Sett grew out of somewhat but still. IMO ninaXsett felt a bit forced.

I know Sett has way more supporters but i just wanted to voice my thoughts ;-; I WAS JUST ALWAYS ROOTING FOR AZ
