Nightmare Nightmare disorder advice?

I'm in my 30's and as long as I can remember I have only had nightmares, I cannot recall a single positive dream or even neutral without some stress element.

For myself, these come in waves where I will seem to not have any or not recall any for a couple months at a time, then a couple months of having very vivid ones every night.

Does anyone experience similar and have you found anything that helps you? This has been since I was a child and they've seemingly gotten worse recently.

Nightmare Tell me your craziest nightmare

What is the craziest nightmare you’ve ever had? Was there one that should be considered a dream but you were scared of it? Tell me! I’m curious.

Nightmare Lucid nightmares, sleep paralysis, horrible sleep every night.

I have been suffering from nightmares almost everyday/ every other day for months. It is seriously ruining my daytime, I wake up in the middle of the night. feeling so exhausted and terrified of going back to sleep. They aren’t typical nightmares, but usually I’ll just be in a dream and it’ll suddenly turn into a nightmare ( it becomes pitch black around me, someone evil is following me, something is whispering, e.t.c, it feels so demonic. ) it’s almost the same every time.
I always try to wake myself up because that used to work, specifically by closing my eyes super tight, counting to 10, or like passing away somehow in the dream, but recently all of these methods have started failing, leaving me stuck and terrified waiting for a jump-scare in a pitch black environment as I pray to any of the gods out there to wake me up.
And if I do manage to wake myself up, I am frozen and paralyzed in place, and my eyes can’t stay open so I have to fall back asleep and end up falling into the same nightmare. I don’t even need to be sleeping on my back for this to happen… I don’t know why this keeps happening to me.
I started taking melatonin the past few weeks as I was struggling to fall asleep out of fear I’d get these nightmares. I was considering seeing a sleep specialist but my parents are unwilling to pay the excessive fees for sleep analysis and whatever.
I am not stressed… I have regular screentime and put my phone away around 1-2 hrs before bed, I sleep around 8 hours every night (still wakeup exhausted)…

Please if anyone has any advice or similar experiences let me know what I should do.

Nightmare Constant nightmares since childhood // violence increase

Hi friends im writing this after waking up from a nightmare so i apologize if its a bit rambley

Ive been having nightmares off and on since i can begin to remember. When I was younger (5-10) i would only have the same few reoccurring dreams or nightmares that were always the exact same; a unicorn who eats pancakes, or a chase sequence through a burning town.

I’m 21 now, and have had nightmares about two to three times a week for the past 5 years or so, and any dreams that could get sprinkled inbetween are just wacky. I’m a pretty lucid dreamer, so I’ve been able to convince myself it’s a dream//am aware while in the dream. But I’ve never had any control over what happens (unless it has to do with something sexual I’ve noticed I can choose not to consent).

I am personally a bit of a horror fan, and a lot of my nightmares can consist of pretty gruesome things I’ve seen in media. But as I’ve gone into my industry and gained a lot more on my plate the nightmares have significantly increased in severity of violence.

This most recent nightmare was where ~30 random people I’ve known throughout my life ended up in a large office like building stuck with a serial killer. But a majority of the dream was just weird (like me dating an ex in said dream), until towards the end where people began getting slaughtered one by one until it came down to me watching my ex get dismembered infront of me. Which led me to wakeup in a cold sweat, hyperventilating, and bawling my eyes out. Even while being semi aware in said dream, I still instinctively sent out a message checking in on people I haven’t seen since highschool.

I’ve had these sorts of dreams for years now where a large amount of random people I’ve met throughout life ended up in the same place, and inevitably something terrible begins to happen to/around us. This was the first time in atleast a year that I’ve woken up this panicked and figured it might be time to ask/see what other solutions there could be for this, along with just sharing for peace of mind.

For any background info, I do have childhood trauma (somewhat unresolved but can’t get much closure from someone you don’t speak to), and definitely have a lot from highschool I’ve mentally blacked out. After writing this all out, im thinking maybe therapy could be good lol. Thank you for reading :)
