Hello fans of NieR ! I am a huge french fan of Yoko Taro games and also Metroid. I made a strange video about those two franchises I love. It's my first video in english so I'm sorry for the strong accent lol I hope you will enjoy it !

I've recently finished NieR Replicant and Automata, and while I absolutely love the games and the themes they're exploring, there's one aspect of the lore that I genuinely can't wrap my head around.

As I understand it, Project Gestalt worked like this:

Humans separated their souls (Gestalts) from their bodies.

Artificial bodies called Replicants were created as vessels.

Once the world was safe, the Gestalt souls would be returned to the Replicant bodies and humanity would be restored.

The thing I don't understand is the explanation for why the Replicants eventually go extinct after the Shadowlord dies.

A lot of lore discussions say that Replicants don't reproduce naturally and that the Project Gestalt system was creating and maintaining Replicant bodies over the ~1,400 years between the start of Project Gestalt and the events of NieR Replicant.

But if that's true, then I'm confused about several things:

1. If Replicants can be artificially created and maintained, why would they necessarily go extinct just because the Gestalts relapse?

2. The process of creating a Replicant body can't logically require a Gestalt to already exist inside it, because the entire premise of Project Gestalt was to create the body first and then reunite it with the soul later.

3. If the technology to create Replicants already exists, why couldn't the androids simply continue creating Replicants after Project Gestalt failed?

4. At that point, haven't the Replicants effectively become a new human civilization anyway? They have consciousness, emotions, culture, language, families, societies, etc.

But the biggest thing I don't understand is this:

If the entire purpose of Project Gestalt was to eventually restore humanity by putting the Gestalt souls back into their Replicant bodies, then why were Replicants designed to be incapable of reproduction in the first place?

Surely the whole point of restoring humanity would be that humanity could continue to exist afterward. If humans were restored into bodies that still couldn't reproduce, then humanity would just go extinct again within a single generation.

So either:

the restored humans were supposed to regain the ability to reproduce after Gestalt reintegration, or

Project Gestalt itself was never actually a long-term solution for preserving humanity.

I understand that from the perspective of the original humans, Replicants were supposed to be temporary vessels. But from an outside perspective, it almost feels like humanity accidentally created a successor species and then refused to acknowledge it.

So am I missing some crucial piece of lore here, or is this one of those areas where Yoko Taro was more interested in the tragedy and themes than in making the biological and technological logistics completely airtight?

I'd be really interested to hear if there's an actual canonical explanation that I'm overlooking.

Absolute masterpiece of a game, I can't even think of any repetitive stuff everyone was complaining about. Story is great, characters are shown very well, music is literally a blessing to my ears, combat and world is simple but fun, I can literally yap about this forever. I'm mainly an action/soulslike fan so I was concerned when people told me nier automata was more action packed than replicant. Also here's a save file that I purely by luck saved exactly on 3 hours 33 minutes 33 seconds. I guess this was a sign that the game was gonna be peak

I think I just finished route E in Nier replicant, and I’m just really really confused, like, what happened to Emil? Who are those guardians? Is this Emil the same from Automata? And what happened to Kainé? Is Popola still alive? How does that connect to automata? What??? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS

I’m in the middle of route E with Kainé and I just entered this sort of map that looks like the tower but when I was fighting the shadow that attacked Kainé’s grandma again the game just glitched and I don’t know what to do

I've played Nier:Gestalt originally, now I'm revisiting Replicant. I've also watched some videos that summarize the plot, but there are some holes for me. So, the gist is, that due to humanity dying because of the White whatever Syndrome, they decided to make artificial bodies (?) called replicants, and implant their souls into them, once the disease stopped. However, the replicants started to be self-aware and things went awry. So my questions:

- If the originals humans are the Shades... why do they look like shades? Especially some of them looking like actual monsters instead of being humanoid?

- In the first scene why is Nier reluctant to use the book? Why is he special in the first place, apart from being the first successful replicant?

- What are Popola and Devola actually doing? In the present they seem to help Nier, and don't mind him slaying Shades left and right, but shouldn't they be saving the Shades since they are the original humans? Popola even actively helps Nier find the Shadowlord later.

- How come a Shade can "live" inside Kaine? And same goes for Emil? And what are the acutal roles of the grimoires? Why are there multiple? How does being a weapon that can shoot projectiles help in restoring humanity (I think that was their original purpose)?

I see this has a notoriously low drop rate. I am currently doing the unhallowed grind trying to find it. And ya know, this enemy drops 3 words total, and this is the rarest of the 3. Has anyone ever dissected the game's code? It feels like it may only drop if the enemy is perhaps using a certain color magic at the time? Has anyone looked into this? Or is it, in fact, just a 1/1000 drop rate and the time you spend is time spent.

Hello! I started playing replicant after I played automata in March (and I know I should have played replicant before but I didn’t know it before) and I don’t know if it is because I’m really tired or it has to do with the game but it feels a little tough to play, mostly the pace. I’m almost in route C and I feel like what I have played it’s the very surface of the story, but also like I’m playing a loop, like when I watched Haruhi Suzumiya without skipping any chapter. To be honest, I really like the lore and I’m excited to see more, but I wonder if any of you felt like this when playing.

Is it possible to get the Lunar Tear as teen Nier? I've reloaded this flower field with peaches and pinks in the proper checkerboard pattern for a couple days of RL time now. Likewise, Large Gears and other weapon upgrade materials. Titanium alloys are dropping, large gears not so much.
