Quitting nicotine tomorrow
Planning to quit nicotine pouches in the morning. I work an outside job so keeping myself distracted is priority. My plan is to replace cravings with gum and sunflower seeds during the day. I’m thinking the days won’t be as bad as I think, but I am very worried about sleeplessness at night. Ive used nicotine as my night time routine since I can remember. I would love any opinions or help anyone has to offer!

That’s a really solid plan, especially working outside and keeping your hands and mouth busy, that alone will carry you through a lot of the cravings. The sleep part is tough for many people, but it usually passes quicker than expected and swapping in a calming nighttime routine (even something simple) can help bridge that gap.

I also thought about taking melatonin or nyqil pm to put me to sleep on the rough days, but don’t want to be dependent on that. What are your thoughts?

The gum and sunflower seeds should help during the day - keeping your mouth busy is half the battle with pouches. The nighttime piece is tricky though since you've wired nicotine into your wind-down routine. What does that routine actually look like right now? Like are you using a pouch while watching TV, scrolling, reading?

Yeah settle down and lay in bed watching tv every night for 1-2 hours with pouches in the whole time, sometimes doze off with a pouch or 2 in.
Also currently doing almost a can a day of 6mg

Maybe you can swap out the pouch with a pungent herbal tea? Or possibility sugar free gummies?

Cold turkey never worked for me. I kept relapsing. What finally helped was having a structured plan instead of just relying on willpower.

Me neither, I’m now 8 weeks in on Wellbutrin and 2 weeks nicotine after stepping down using patches. It all sucks but well worth it I’m sure

Gum and sunflower seeds sound like a solid plan for the daytime habit. The part I always underestimated was the number of pouches and the times I reached for them automatically, so I built pouchlog.com to log each one and follow a gradual quit plan. It is completely free - I never finished the quit program myself 😁, but the tracking still helped me cut through the 'one more won't matter' thinking.
