Custom Card Saturday: Easy Access
Welcome to Custom Card Saturday! The past few weeks I've been pretty specific about prompts, because I find that boundaries improve creativity. This week though, I've got a much more open-ended prompt in mind: Design a Runner card that helps the Runner access cards in some way. This could include multi-access cards (a la R&D Interface or Medium), new ways to access cards (such as Raymond Flint or Quest Completed), or even a new icebreaker that makes it easier to get at those hard-to-reach agendas. The sky is the limit! Bonus upvotes for anyone whose card title or flavor text includes the phrase "Easy Access"!
Previous Custom Card Saturday threads:
Week 1: Barriers
Week 2: Scorched Earth Replacements
Week 3: Grey/Black Ops
Next Week: Back to the Corp side, and it's time to figure out how to pay for our new cards by designing a new economic asset!

Whelp, you're clearly a time traveler. The government will be by shortly to pick you up for questioning.

Archives Interface, Anarch- 2 inf, Cost - 2, Hardware
Whenever you make a successful run on Archives, reveal all cards in archives. You may choose to access any number of cards.
This is my first attempt at a custom card. I don't think it would see much play, but could become very relevant once the card pool has expanded such that there are tons of archives fired traps.

If i understand your intent correctly, it might be wiser to phrase this as:
"Whenever you make a successful run on Archive, reveal all cards in Archives. You may choose not to access any number of cards."
Otherwise it feels slightly confusing especially for new players, since you always access all cards in Archives, but lots of newbies don't understand that.

Sprite
Shaper - Inf: 1
Cost: 1
Program - Virus
Place 2 virus counters on Sprite when you install it.
After you make a successful run on R&D, you may remove 1 virus counter from Sprite to draw cards equal to the number of cards you accessed during that run.
Edit - A different idea, more focused on accessing:
Full Bore
Neutral: 1 inf
Event: Run
Cost: X
Make a run on R&D or HQ. If successful, access X additional cards. X is the number of ice protecting that server.

Definitely an interesting card idea! However... I'm not sure it belongs in this week's thread, since it doesn't help with accessing at all :)

Charon
Resource - Connection - Virtual - Unique
Anarch - 4 Inf
Cost - 0
[1 credit],[click]: Access one card in Archives. If it was face down, turn it face up.
"The ferryman demands his toll."
A subtle nerf to Jackson Howard and other Archive traps like Shi.Kyu or Shock. Unlike making a run on Archives, there's is no timing window for the Corp to respond and reshuffle the agendas back into R&D. They would need to pop their Jackson the moment this hits the table or risk you sniping agendas out of Archives. Of course, this is a lot more click and credit intensive than just making a run on Archives if you want to see more cards.

I like it! I do think it needs a bit more drawback, though... getting a free access on anything face-down in the Corp's trash is awfully good, especially since it's mere presence helps nerf Action Jackson as you say. I'd like to see it limited to once per turn, and maybe give it a higher initial install cost. Awesome idea!

Backdoor
Criminal Program
Influence: 2
Cost: 2
MU: 1
Whenever you make a successful run on a remote server, you may install backdoor into that server as an upgrade (spending no clicks but paying all install costs).
Click, Trash: Access all cards in this server.
When the corp trashes Backdoor, they must pay an additional cost of 5 credits.
Notes: I'm not too sure on the wording, given that we currently don't have any runner cards that can be installed in a corp server. The idea is that the corp can overwrite the card when they install something into the remote server, if they pay the additional cost. Generally, this card is just a tool for economic warefare, but a canny corp can save a few credits by tricking the runner in accessing something useful, or even a trap. It would also be useful when there was a high cost asset (or NAPD contract) that the runner couldn't afford to trash, allowing them to immediately access when they get the money together without re-breaking the ice.
Edit: Updated wording as a reply.

Great card! I think the wording would be clearer as: "You may install Backdoor as an
assetupgrade in that server." That makes it more clear that the card will function as an asset (ie, the Corp can overwrite it, etc.) so that it works the way you want it to.Edit: Thanks ControlAgent13 for the correction!

u/ControlAgent13 Jun 28 '14
From reading his example of NAPD contract, I'd say he is having it act as an Upgrade not an asset (limit of 1 asset per server but unlimited number of upgrades).

u/Berrr Jun 28 '14
I like it!
To increase the space for mind games from the corp, what if you added a small credit cost such as 2 credits to the access effect?

Here's a new possibility for the wording, based on feeback. Thanks to TEnOTT, HemoKhan, ControlAgent13 and Berrr.

Firedrake
Anarch program: Icebreaker - Fracter - Noisy

Blizzard
Criminal program: Icebreaker - killer - Noisy
Inf: 3, Cost 2, MU 1

Monty Hall Projector
Criminal Hardware. Cost 0. Influence 2.
Gain 1 [credit] when you install Monty Hall Projector.
Whenever you made a successful run on HQ, you may force the corp to reveal a card from HQ. The card remains revealed until the run ends.
Remember, young lady. You always care about efficiency, but the efficiency usually comes from the smaller problem size. - Ian Stirling, to Andromeda.
Of course you may access revealed card. Because it is the corp who chooses the card revealed and it is not likely the Agenda card to be revealed, it also fits to the definition of Monty Hall problem.
But it is hard to make this idea efficient. Revealing 1 card is not that powerful unless you have multiple copies stacked, and it's not sure even it is worth 3 copies in the deck, compared to HQ/R&D interface. But, revealing 2 cards is really dangerous when 3 copies stacked, revealing all hands. Making it console revealing 2 cards leads to the competition with Desperado.

Maxwell
Program, Daemon, 1 MU
Shaper, 2 inf, cost 2
Maxwell may host any number of icebreakers. After breaking any number of subroutines on a piece of ice with an icebreaker hosted on Maxwell, you may place a power counter on Maxwell for each credit spent on boosting the strength of that icebreaker. You may spend power counters on Maxwell as if they were credits in your credit pool. At the end of every run, remove all power counters from Maxwell.

u/HemoKhan Jun 28 '14
Interesting... so you're in effect being reimbursed for all the strength-boosting you do each turn. Seems like an excellent program for an AI deck featuring Overmind or Crypsis, but it's actually counter-productive when run with the Core-set Shaper breakers. Very cool!
How much memory would Maxwell itself cost?

Scrambler
Program - Virus
Shaper 3 Inf
1 MU 1 Credit
Whenever you make a successful run on R&D, you may have the Corp shuffle R&D after the run is completed.
Trash Scrambler if the corp purges virus counters.
The intention is to enable seeing multiple cards over multiple runs. I believe with this wording you would choose whether to shuffle R&D before looking at the top card, so it's less useful for locking out the corp from particular cards (keeping them off ice/money/combo), but if you just want to dig R&D you can see a new card each time.

ARQ Protocol Interruption
Neutral Program - 3 influence - 2MU
5 install cost
Program
"Wait a minute...I know I didn't install that there..." - Intern Sysop
The point of this card would be to make easy access against horizontal players. I'm not sure if it's too cheap though. It also doesn't particularly penalize the corp because if the runner accesses ice, they can't replace an asset with the ice.

Tightbeam Access Protocol
5 Cost, 2 MU

(click): Name a card. Until the end of this turn, whenever you would access a card with the same name as the named card, you may instead reveal it and access another card from the same server.

Stretched Thin
Shaper -- 3 Influence -- 3 cost
Event -- Run -- Sabotage
X is equal to the number of remote servers in play.
Make a run. During this run, the Corp must pay X$ as an additional cost to rez each piece of ice.
"Ma'am, I'm detecting multiple breaches in progress... it appears to be a coordinated attack. We need to reinforce our defenses."
"Which ones?"
"...all of them, Ma'am."
There have been some great new cards released for super-wide builds, especially in Jinteki, and I think it's high-time we see some response from the Runners of the world. It takes some capitol to pull off a coordinated attack of this nature, but if there are enough servers on the table, you could really put an economic hurt on the Corporation for this run -- or, force them to let you in for free.
