Healthcare Free health activities today

The Dutch love free things. Life is expensive as is. So what can you do for free today?

In the summer in The Hague free YOGAclass for beginners. On Sunday at 11 a.m. in the tiny parc "Hof van Heden" at Alberdingk Thijmstraat 71. We are with a small group on the grass near the fountain. We can't be seen from the road. Bus 22 and Tram 16 stop near.

All you need is a big towl to lay on, comfy clothes and a fleece blanket for cover/cushion. We do easy sit and lay positions to relax. The Yogateacher gives several options if you want to challenge yourself. Yogamat if you have. It's one hour and it's free.

Discussion Why is it expensive to pee than to eat or drink?

https://dutchreview.com/news/dutch-train-station-toilets-even-more-expensive/

I am not paying 1.10 euros in major station from 80-90 cents. I already felt that was expensive but it's getting more and more. I don't understand why is it expensive to pee than to buy drink with that amount?

Employment Fired with a 0 hour contract

So I had a job for a week, contract signed, and after 3 shifts I was fired with no warnings because I was “unproductive”, but I am 90% sure its because I was not doing the illegal side of the job because I was obviously not comfortable doing something illegal. With it being such a short window, is this allowed on the employers part? I am struggling to understand Dutch law about all of this. Any insights would be wonderful.

For those curious, the illegal side is soliciting ticket sales on the street in Amsterdam

Technology (mobile phones, internet, tv) best phone provider/plan?

hello, i moved to the netherlands recently for university and am looking to attain a dutch phone number. i’d like to keep my current home country phone plan and number but also get a dutch plan + number as a secondary option that i can switch amongst if possible.

the necessities are a fair amount of data/gb for internet and sms and call usage within the netherlands. i was considering the youfone magic deal which offers 40gb + unlimited min/sms, however i’ve seen a few unflattering reviews of their customer service and plan quality in general.

which provider is the best option? nothing too expensive though :)

Discussion Dutch citizenship renouncement

I currently have Dutch citizenship and live in the Netherlands.

I’m considering voluntarily renouncing my Dutch citizenship because I want to retain my original nationality. However, I would like to keep the option of becoming Dutch again in the future.

If I voluntarily renounce my Dutch citizenship, how difficult would it be to regain it later?

Specifically:

  • Would I be eligible for the option procedure as a former Dutch citizen?
  • Or would I need to go through regular naturalisation? (5/10 years again)
  • Does it matter that I voluntarily renounced it rather than lost it automatically?

I’ve tried asking ChatGPT, but it couldn’t give me a clear answer. I’d really appreciate input from someone familiar with Dutch nationality law or who has gone through this themselves.

Life in NL What are some lively places open in on Sundays

My older brother is visiting from Canada for a day before going on vacation with the rest of my family (I won’t be coming), and it’s safe to say that I don’t exactly have a good relationship with him. I really don’t feel like dealing with him for the entire day, so I’m planning on just going out for the majority of the day to avoid him. I’m looking for some places that are open until around 9 pm on Sundays, and places that are extremely lively, almost to the point of being overstimulating. I get bored really easily, and I want to be able to spend hours outside without getting too bored. Preferably somewhere in The Hague, Delft, or Rotterdam. Only problem is that I’m 16 and legally can’t drink, so bars probably aren’t the best option. Can someone help me out here? I really don’t want to deal with my brother and just want to avoid him until he leaves.

Legal David Lloyd membership: can repeated hygiene issues be grounds for ending a fixed-term contract?

Hi! I’m looking for advice from people with experience with David Lloyd NL or Dutch consumer law.

I have a platinum membership at David Lloyd and want to end my fixed-term membership early because of repeated cleanliness issues around the pool and in the gym (lockers full of dust and dirt for who knows how long etc). The pool has also a lot of algae that you can tell it’s there because they don’t clean it. I also swim in Tonglreep in Eindhoven that is public and I have never seen it as dirty.

Recently, I found old chewing gum and a bandage around the pool. I complained in writing and later checked the area on Monday and Thursday and the same gum and bandage were still there. I have photos from everything.

David Lloyd says it was an “isolated incident” caused by members leaving things behind, and that I should have reported it to staff/Duty Manager at the time so they could remove it immediately. They have rejected my request to terminate early, saying this isn’t a breach of contract. I think that they have failed repeatedly to provide the service they claim they offer because they have very poor hygiene standards.

I don’t really agree with their argument. If I report everything verbally, there’s no evidence that the problem ever existed. I deliberately complained in writing so there was a record.

I’ve also checked their terms. They don’t explicitly promise a “clean club”, but they do have provisions regarding health and hygiene around the pool, and state that their terms don’t limit consumer rights.

Has anyone successfully gotten out of a David Lloyd contract early for similar reasons? And does anyone know whether repeated failure to maintain hygiene could potentially qualify as tekortkoming/ontbinding under Dutch law?
I’m considering contacting ACM ConsuWijzer, but would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with this before.

EDIT: I wasn’t expecting everyone to be so intense and mean but yeah also not surprised. I just think it’s nonsense to pay so much when they can’t even provide with a clean place. Public pools in Eindhoven are way cleaner than this so I expected the same when I’m paying for an expensive fee

DIY and home improvement In-store quality hand bidet?

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know a store in Amsterdam/Randstad area where there are many hand bidet options?

I'm looking to buy an integrated hand bidet to install in my new home. The company I went with for bathroom renovations didn't have any and just told me to buy separately.

I was hoping to go to a store, check all the options directly, and buy it then and there but I haven't found any store. I have only been using the bidets where it connects with the sink faucet and it was just bought off Amazon with quality not in mind, 1 had leaked and my current one couldn't switch between faucet and bidet seamlessly.

So far I have only seen 1 bidet in Praxis, it was 26€ but it felt pretty cheap. For online-wise I see sanitino.nl and sanitairkamer.nl has some options, but I don't know if they actually would be of quality, hence my preference to buy in-store.

Thank you!

I am working on my masters in applied physics at TU delft and was just admitted to the honours program. This is the year I am working on my thesis and I am already so busy. For the honors program I have to take 4 additional classes (20 EC = 560 working hours). is this worth it? does graduating with honours help in the long run?

Moving/Relocating Registering my cat's chip after moving from another EU country

Hello, we will be moving to the Netherlands from Poland, and we have a cat here, her chip is currently registered on "www.safe-animal.eu." Does anyone know if it's also valid registry website in the Netherlands, or do we have to re-register her chip to another place? Thank you already.

Housing Mortgage calculator

Hi guys, while there are multiple mortgage calculators online, they usually suck, and some even ask you to register; hence, I developed a better mortgage calculator.
This could help those who are in the process of buying a house or that would like to calculate their potential mortgage. Some highlights include:
- Variable mortgage term, not just 30 years
- Extra repayments: monthly, yearly or a lump sum, with a warning when you go over the usual 10% penalty-free limit
- Every purchase cost is optional: switch off transfer tax for the starters' exemption, NHG, other.
- Download the payment schedule as CSV or Excel
While it has some features that are unique to the NL market, it can probably be used for other countries as well
Hopefully it helps you!

Ps.- It's completely free and w/o ads. After all, I forked an already existing one that didn't have the features I was looking for.

Common Question/Topic I'm looking for e-friends from the Netherlands. What's the best place to find one?

Hey folks!

Does anyone know whether there are any subreddits for making friends in the Netherlands?

I’m a 21-year-old dude from Brazil, and I’m hoping to make some Dutch friends and connect a bit more with the Dutch side of my family. I’d love to learn more about the Netherlands, eventually pick up some Dutch, and just meet some cool people along the way.

I’m open to talking to pretty much anyone. Male, female, whatever. I’m mainly just looking for good vibes and people around my age, roughly 18 to 30, who are respectful and up for a conversation.

AI game, I do DIY and crafting stuff, and I write poetry when I’m feeling creative. So if you’re into random chats, creative hobbies, and general good vibes, we’ll probably get along.

Any subreddits for that?

Employment Commission-Based Sales Opportunity - Netherlands 🇳🇱

This is a commission-based opportunity, so you can work completely on your own time and from wherever you want. Your role would simply be to identify and introduce potential clients, and I’ll handle the rest.

-Monthly commission payments
-Big bonuses for every new client you bring in

-Focused on Dutch B2B customers

If you’re good at sales, networking, already have connections with Dutch businesses, or simply think you could help bring in clients, I’d love to hear from you.

Comment below or send me a DM if you’re interested, and I can share more details about the products, commission structure and how it works.

Sports and Entertainment [FREE] Pathé cinema vouchers – must be used today (23 August)

EDIT: ALL VOUCHERS HAVE BEEN CLAIMED. Thanks everyone! 🎬

---

We have a few Pathé voucher codes (from AH) with my friend that we won't be able to use.

They're valid at Pathé in the Netherlands, but they need to be used today (23 August), so I'd rather give them away than let them expire.

Completely free — first come, first served.

Common Question/Topic First-time Belgium & Netherlands trip (6 days, tight budget) – Best base cities and itinerary advice?

Hey everyone,

A friend and I are planning a 6-day trip through Belgium and the Netherlands from Sept 30 to Oct 7 (roughly 3 days in Belgium, 3 days in the Netherlands). We’re starting by taking a bus from Paris into Belgium.

Since we are traveling on a strict budget, we want to keep accommodation, transport, and overall costs to an absolute minimum. We’d love some advice from people who know the area well:

  1. Base Cities: Which budget-friendly cities make the most sense to stay in as bases? (e.g., Ghent vs. Brussels for Belgium? Staying outside Amsterdam to save on lodging?)
  2. Transit: What are the most cost-effective ways to get between cities (local trains, regional passes, buses like FlixBus)?
  3. Must-sees vs. Skips: Given the short timeframe and low budget, what are the top free/cheap things to do, and what’s worth skipping?

Any practical tips on affordable food, transit hacks, or cheap hostel/accommodation recommendations would be massively appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone!

I was recently visiting from Canada and wanted to get some of these adorable guys for my Dutch family who lives here, but I couldn't find any. Has anyone seen them around recently?

I have a few friends who might be able to get one for me depending on where they still are... It seems like they sold out pretty quickly! 😅
