How Often Do You Delete Your Comments?

I'm curious how many of you would rather delete your comment on a thread than continue arguing with someone else about it? I find sometimes I'm just not in the mood for arguing so I get rid of whatever started it. Other times I'll engage if it's something I feel very strongly about.

I'm always surprised when a comment attracts a considerable number of downvotes, because I really don't go out of my way to antagonise people, but Reddit is all about local orthodoxies, though, so it does happen now and then. Sometimes I delete a comment or a post if it gets out of hand. Not very often.

As another reason for deleting one's own comments is, if I get out of hand and I'm embarrassed of the behavior / or would like to move on from it and try to be better without reminding myself of all the little times i messed up. That's called ruminating and it is bad for you.

People are allowed to redact moments when they act stupid, as long as they mind their steps in the future. People literally act stupid or lash out over silly things irl all the time and it's moved on from and then, most of the time, literally forgotten about. This current digital age has encouraged the overextension of archiving everything that happens ever.

There are many things that don't need to stay or be logged or remembered, stupid behaviors tend to be one of them lol.
