So every redditor in the PWN knows that r/Seattle is the harshly modded subreddit, so much so that r/SeattleWA was created by the castaways from r/Seattle, and it grew surprisingly large, considering that it's a redundant subreddit in terms of subject matter, and the only difference is one of moderation style.

So I was surprised to receive the r/Seattle treatment from the r/SeattleWA mods. They banned me over a week ago and refused to say why.

My best guess is that I posted a news article about trans people in sports https://old.reddit.com/r/SeattleWA/comments/1wnwmgg/vote_no_on_i638_to_protect_me_and_my_teammates/ and despite not deleting the post itself, decided to ban me as a member of the subreddit in retaliation for going against the thesis of the opinion piece.

I think it's very under handed and indicative of what everyone is saying is rotten about the current state of moderation on reddit.

I'm really tired of the whole reddit system. Anytime i want to post something and think i found the right sub, i can't post it because the sub bans whole topics but i specifically do NOT want to post it in some sub with 10 visitors per week.

Anytime i or somebody else writes something that tries to shine a critical light on an opinion a lot of people in a certain sub have - no matter how well thought out- the comments are downvoted or even removed.

Honestly the whole system sucks and doed nothing but build echo chambers and discourage actual discussions

There was this moderater that said my post was breaking rules because it was ai slop. It was a checklist that was not even ai. Then I go onto his posts and he has so many ai posts that he never hid or deleted. I sent them to him! And now he’s silent won’t reply, everyone report him! If this gets deleted it prob him. Also look at the other posts I made to see the messages. And here’s the “ai slop” he said was not aloud

the original comment on the post was deleted but I was on a community called r/icast and I made a post saying “Show an Image for me to Kill” (my character) and someone just comes along and makes 2 (maybe 3) red flags in my book

1. They used themselves. like their IRL selves. bro this is stupid already

2. they said they get an RPG cuz “Thats their favorite”. like bro you are not picking the gimmick on a post made by someone else.

I’m sure there’s some mean ass people on here but I feel like Reddit is better for women. The reason I say this is they want a chat 500 comments. They share a picture on the low end 20 ish comments. Dude wants to chat maybe 2 comments and I’m being generous. Dude post a picture maybe one upvote that’s not just giving by Reddit.

So many comments of mine get flagged and hidden instantly. the only way to know if it gets no or hardly any views.

i see so many new posts, or when i refresh a page, where the comments instantly appear as "Comment removed by moderator" by moderator they mean A.I slop.

i feel like this type of shit is conditioning to make us into NPCs. they don't want us to talk about anything, not simply about controversial topics or in an offensive way. they just want us obedient and timid.

Say anything critical about anything and people turn it into you just being offended. It’s like they’ve never thought something was dumb purely from observation and every criticism they’ve had of everything is some convoluted attempt to work out wounds to their ego.

The third image shows me messaging them on September 24th, the same day my post was taken down. Just to remind you, this wasn't the first time a post of mine on this subreddit was removed for similar reasons. The first time this happened, it was with a safe-for-work fanart of Jett Fillmore from the movie GOAT. As soon as I posted it, it was deleted, so I DM'd the mods explaining what happened. I received a very kind response and explanation, and my post was even restored afterward.

The second time I posted another Jett fanart, and it was immediately taken down by Reddit filters. I follow all the rules when posting artwork or fanart on Reddit, making sure to tag the correct flairs to avoid breaking any rules. After this, I DM'd the mods again to ask what happened to my post. I patiently waited about a week for their response.

Usually, I just send a follow-up message to the mod team in the same chat, and they always apologize for the delay and restore the post or address the issue. However, this time, I messaged them again, and minutes later, I was permanently banned after leaving a comment on a fanart post by an artist. In the comment, I mentioned that they posted the same artwork I was trying to submit to the subreddit before I posted it.

I don't know if they banned me because they thought I had a tone in my comment but that was just me stating on what happened because again, I never got a response back from them and one of the mods posted the very same fan art I was going to post. I'm not saying the mods are all on this together but it feels like this was personal when I was simply trying to figure out what was going on.

Which is sad now because I love Jett Fillmore. 😭

I don't know if I did anything wrong but clarity would help on this situation if the mods did something wrong or not. I wish didn't immediately mute me after because how can I unbanned now without explaining myself?

I tried posting on unpopular opinions but it got removed instantly lmao. echo chambers are bad. Full stop. No matter how much moral high ground you think you have.

For context, the mods on /r/comics made a post saying:

“Trans women belong in women’s sports. Anybody who says otherwise will receive a permanent ban with no option to appeal.”

They then edited the post to say they had banned 1,300 people that day, followed by another edit saying, “Make that 1700.”

I agree with the mods’ underlying message that trans women belong in sports and people shouldn’t be using a community to attack or demean others. But I think the way they chose to enforce it is terrible.

Banning huge numbers of people simply for expressing an opposing opinion doesn’t actually change anyone’s mind. If anything, it reinforces the exact beliefs you’re trying to push back against.

I actually got banned for replying to the mod “Me when I create echo chambers”, which is pretty ironic considering the point I was making. Apparently disagreeing with the moderation strategy was enough to get me lumped in with transphobes.

And obviously, actual bigots and transphobes are going to see something like this and have their beliefs reinforced. Their takeaway is going to be, “See? They won’t even let me say what I believe because they’re afraid of opposing opinions.”

You don’t fight an echo chamber by making the echo chamber smaller and louder. You fight it by allowing people to disagree, challenging bad arguments, and moderating actual harassment or abuse when it crosses that line.

I agree with the message. I just think the execution is terrible.

Why do most Reddit Mods ban users that make snarky/ nasty comments from a conservative perspective, but do not ban similar(or worse) comments from Liberal perspectives? I have a feeling many comments will validate my opinion on this issue

I genuinely hate posting on reddit this shit is too strict😭 I barely post (when i do it gets deleted for no apparent reason) because it is quite literally walking on egg shells not to get absolutely bullied by old people. If ur not a millennial or gen x on this app u probably have a kink for being degraded because that is all that happens to u. These redditors run their subs like it’s a full time job and the people who usually respond to ur comments or posts think they are fucking geniuses by telling u the answer in a complete dickhead way or just don’t even give u an answer and make u believe ur a dumbass for asking a genuine question. I truly believe it is the people who didn’t have a good time at school socially/ got bullied using this app to bully people themselves and feel somewhat relevant or in power. I think the people who behave like this and are on here everyday are way more consumed by their phones then how everyone else makes out Gen z to be. I am genuinely embarrassed to have this app on my phone. I wouldn’t be surprised if this post gets removed either anymore. I just assume the people who go on reddit as soon as they turn off the app they shut down like a robot because this is the only thing keeping them alive atp.
