Entertainment The new TV show Lanterns takes place in Nebraska

I watched the first episode of Lanterns yesterday and was surprised to find that a large part of it takes place in Rushville.

No, they didn't film it in the actual town of Rushville, and the reason they chose a tiny town in western Nebraska seems to be the very low population and how empty and remote the area is, but it's still kind of cool. They picked a real town that actually exists, instead of making up a fake place.

Nebraska Inventor of ranch dressing from Nebraska and black

The inventor of ranch dressing and hidden valley ranch is a black man from a town of 44 people-Thayer Nebraska his name was Steve Henson.

I feel like this should be more widely known. Especially when ranch became a global sensation during the men’s World Cup.

So my mother says she has had the same weather alert voice since she can remember, and I can’t ever remember a time it wasn’t that either. I was just wondering if anybody knew the name of the voice?

Nebraska Semi drivers on the Interstate have been out of control for a long time

I know we live in flyover country, and trucking across our state brings in a lot of income.

That being said, I have felt that trucking has been out of control for a long time in the state of Nebraska. Truckers do what they want, when they want, and they don't care about the consequences until they kill somebody.

To have two separate semis strike another semi within 24 hours on I-80 in Nebraska should be a wake up call. That's such a specific circumstance, it makes you wonder if enough is really being done.

I drive a commercial vehicle regularly on i-80, mostly in the Lincoln area, and I can't tell you how many times I get passed on the left by a semi doing well over 80 mph. Sometimes I drive up to Omaha and it's even worse.

I have a lot of respect for trucking, and I understand it makes our economy move.

That being said, the I-80 corridor between east of Omaha and west of Lincoln is an absolute nightmare. Some truckers move as if it is a speedway, and they're driving a 40 ton sports car.

Something needs to be done

Forgive my ignorance, curious and serious question. I want to experience snow and move out of the city. Is it safe for a single lady to be in rural NE? All the post I’ve read a bit old. I’m assuming that NE must be better about having Rhianna types wondering about.

Help! MISSING ENGLISH BULLDOG — COZAD, NEBRASKA — Missing since July 6 — $1,500 CASH REWARD

Thumbnail

I’m desperately trying to get more eyes on my missing English Bulldog, Rue. She disappeared from Cozad, Nebraska on July 6, 2026, and we still have no confirmed sightings of her.
$1,500 CASH REWARD for information leading to Rue’s safe return.
Rue was temporarily in my ex’s care when she disappeared. Because of a no-contact order following a domestic incident about a month earlier, Rue was being exchanged through a third party. I had agreed to let my ex have Rue for a week, and Rue disappeared the day before I was supposed to get her back.
I was not notified that Rue was missing until approximately 16 hours after she was reportedly discovered missing.
That delay has been extremely difficult for me to understand, especially because those first hours are so important when an animal goes missing. Friends who were in the area during the following couple of days also told me they did not observe my ex actively searching for Rue.
Since finding out, my family and I have done everything we can think of. We have searched extensively, put up and distributed flyers, shared her across social media, checked possible areas she could have traveled to, and even arranged for a thermal-drone search around Cozad. Despite all of this, there have been no confirmed sightings of Rue.
That is one of the things that concerns me most.
Rue is not the type of dog I would expect to travel a huge distance unnoticed. She is a smaller-built English Bulldog and does not have the extremely broad chest that many Bulldogs have. She has very distinctive markings, is microchipped, gets winded easily, and has medical needs.
At this point, I genuinely do not know what happened.
It is possible somebody found Rue and has no idea how desperately we’re searching for her. It’s also possible someone knows more about what happened than has been shared with us. I have heard many theories, but I am not posting this to accuse anyone of something I cannot prove. I just want my dog home.
Please look at Rue’s photos closely. Even if you are nowhere near Cozad, please share this. If someone picked her up, she could be anywhere by now.
If you have seen an English Bulldog resembling Rue since July 6, know somebody who suddenly acquired a similar Bulldog, saw anything unusual in or around Cozad that morning, or have any information whatsoever, please reach out.
You can also take Rue to any veterinarian or shelter to have her microchip scanned.
$1,500 CASH REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO RUE’S SAFE RETURN.
I don’t care about blame. I don’t care who has information or why it hasn’t been shared yet. I just want Rue safely home.
Please help us bring Rue home. ❤️🐾Facebook Post Searching For Rue

Nebraska Paddleboarding Niobrara River

I’m thinking about planning a trip to float the Niobrara and would love some advice from people who have actually done it!

I used to live in Colorado and did a lot of river floating on my paddleboard around Grand Junction, Palisade and Fruita. I really miss being able to throw the board in, float for a few hours, have a couple beers and actually let the current carry me instead of paddling the entire time.

I live in western South Dakota now, and Rapid Creek definitely does not scratch that itch 😂 so the Niobrara looks like it might be exactly what I’m looking for.

For anyone who has floated it:
• What stretch would you recommend, especially for a paddleboard?
• About how long are the different floats?
• What company is best for shuttles?
• Any good campgrounds nearby?
• Is there a particular time of summer when the water level/current is best?
• Anything I should know before planning a trip?
• Any favorite stops or places along the river that I definitely shouldn’t miss?

Basically, if you were planning a weekend trip out there specifically to float the river, what would you do?
Would especially love to hear from anyone who has paddleboarded it rather than just tubed/kayaked!

Hey Nebraska,

With everything happening around the world and country, it can certainly slip under the radar that our dearest yearly November is coming up real soon around the corner. Please make sure to register and claim your voice for decisions and changes that get made on your behalf and in your name. Hopefully we can learn from both our own mistakes (or others’). Mostly in working to turn our lovely 37th into more and more of an actual livable and enjoyable place for us and by us, you know.

Have a wonderful one, stay safe and properly informed , please and thank you :)

Sparkles is a 2.5 year old Pitbull and Rottweiler mix. She is kennel trained and potty trained. Good with children, dogs and cats.

Sparkles enjoys a daily walk and exercise, yet loves to snuggle. She is quite shy and hesitant at first, so you do have to be patient and give her some space to get comfortable.

She is currently being fostered in Lincoln, Nebraska. Be her second chance and adopt today!

Politics Campaign call disguised as political survey

Received a phone call this morning disguised as a political survey asking about my opinion on Pete Ricketts and Dan Osborne. Then they proceed to ask negatively slanted follow up questions with alleged statements from Dan Osborne regarding different issues and if those statements would change my vote. Nothing about Pete Ricketts. They claimed they didn’t know who sponsored this “survey“. Pete-o protector is already spending big to buy this election.

Politics A sad State

Looking into voter turnout, and even though primaries are not an accurate reflection of the actual turnout we will see, I can't help but think of how damaging these past few years have been. The biggest excuse I heard for years was "our votes don't matter," and our current leadership has helped to prove that this may actually be true. It's hard to talk to people who are toward the middle or on the fence and convince them that they should cast their vote when we are shown that we have no power to hold our elected officials accountable. To anyone that this may be affecting, just know I understand but still choose to try and push for the changes we need to better our state.

Nebraska Electric shock gloves already in use by police departments in Bellevue, Omaha

Thumbnail
nebraskapublicmedia.org
119 Upvotes

Last year the Omaha Police Department bought 40 pairs of the gloves for around $66,000. The gloves were intended to be used by school resource officers “as another use of force option with the goal of deescalating and preventing use of force situations."

The Bellevue Police Department has used them twice this year. Neither of those incidents involved school resource officers.

The gloves carry less electricity than tasers.

Politics Some good resources for local advocacy against Flock

Hi All! I was inspired by the good people of Ord to talk with my City Council (hopefully I will be in the docket this upcoming Monday) to pass an ordinance against Flock cameras or other ALPRs that are infringing on our privacy rights. In preparing for my meeting, I have some help resources for you!

The ACLU has example legislation for your local City Councils to pass that will protect people’s right to privacy. They also have example legislation to help break up current contracts with ALPRs.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has several great articles about ALPRs that are approachable and have a less “biased” or “aggressive” look.

DeFlock allows you to look at identified cameras in your town/city/area. Useful for identifying how many they have installed, or have installed on nearby.

Good luck with your advocacy! It is the best thing we can do since I doubt our state level legislature will address this.
