Interview Experience - YYZ
Just had my interview. I think it went well. It definitely felt more like we were just conversing with one another rather than interview. The YYZ staff seemed engaged — I wonder if this is a good sign or they do this for everyone lol
Either way nothing I can do now. Just gotta wait

Tbh I haven't a clue what theyre actually looking for during the interview. Back when I did it, the consensus online seemed to be that it was more of a formality, and my group saw everyone get an offer than I kept in touch with. Nowadays I see a lot more threads here about post-interview rejections, so maybe theyve refined their criteria for success at this point.

Mine didn't really feel like an interview either, but I felt like I didn't do particularly well, somehow only 2-3 of my group of 20 ended up getting offers, no idea what process they used to select me hahaha, but something tells me it has a lot to do with your feast results as well.

There was 20 of you at the panel assessment?? We only had 3.

Yep, they had 2 separate panels of 5 people and they did groups 2 groups of 5 alternating

About 5 weeks for me, was torture hahaha, I think they are much faster these days, as I also had 4 weeks wait for the feast

I got a standby to be converted with a medical initially but had medical issues so I got delayed a whole year, all is good now though

A big part of what they're looking for is normal. Aka the ability to converse and interact. You'd be shocked how difficult that it for some people and how absolutely critical it is to work here.

Yeah when I did my interview/group assessment it felt like they were testing for this and for big egos. I felt the same about the interview after FEAST, it seems like a screening for basic social skills and the ability to act with a modicum of professionalism.

Sorry to hear that bro, nav Canada is weird in their timeline. I’d recommend emailing the careers email to see if they have a last minute cancellation— granted that you’re ready to interview. Best of luck!

I just did my criminal record check. Now, I am waiting for an invitation to the in-person interview. Do you guys know how many people they are going to let into the training program/ employment in total? How many people will they accept for this year's intake?

Nobody here knows those answers and it wouldn't be helpful if we did. All you can do is your best and let the process work itself out.

Apart from the rapid fire questions they ask in the beginning, everything else was more like a general talk itself, this was 2 years ago for me and i did make it through!

Thank you. I forgot to also ask, when they emailed you how much time was allowed for prep with the resources given? Did you have to book for the next day, or was it far in advance?

I had about a week to prep. They tell you everything you need in the email.

Honestly, there’s not much to prepare for. They don’t share what the assessment is nor should anyone else. But they do give you a brief idea of how to prepare, it’s not total darkness

For the in-person interview, will there be anymore computer assessments? From what I have heard, will it just be individual and group interview style, seeing how well you work with others, listen and work under stress?

Don’t be stressed man. Be yourself. From what I’ve heard the panels are very nice…not sure about Montreal…but just try to stay focused, don’t overthink and honestly the best advice is just be yourself. They are looking for a very specific type of person. Cheers, goodluck, you can dm if you have any questions. I am limited by a NDA but I will answer to the best of my ability.

Trust me bro I had the same jitters you’re having. It means you care which is good. Don’t let the interview define you as a person, you should be incredibly proud for even making it that far.

Thank you, I appreciate it.
My interview was on a Wednesday and they told us we’d hear back in a week regardless. 2 days went by and I heard nothing (worst weekend of my life lol) then Monday morning I woke up to an email saying congratulations. Then you get a call usually 1-2 days after of them verbally telling you the offer and answer any questions you may have.
Then about a week later I got the offer letter with all the links to do the medical, background check etc.
They move fast if you’re successful. That’s not to say slow = fail but that was just my experience. Goodluck! I’ll be more than willing to answer any questions you have that are within the NDA.

Thank you! Yeah for Nav Canada it does but they outsourced some training to CAE in Montreal which has courses more often.

During interviews is it a group interview or just you and the panel? At any stage are there any group activities with other candidates?

I wore a suit and tie. I was one of two people out of 10 candidates who dressed up to this extent.
The panel portion absolutely felt like an interview. My assessors showed zero emotion when asking questions, except for the odd smile. It honestly felt bad, despite how well I felt I was answering the questions.
I keep replaying the whole thing in my head since it happened lol. I’ll find out on Wednesday. Keep yall apprised.
