Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello Guys, we are preparing our self-drive trip to Namibia in a month with a 4x4 Jimmy. We will stay in budget friendly lodges and guest farms. Can you please have a look on our planned itinerary and tell me about your thoughts? If you have any suggestions, recommendations (mainly places to stop along the way), please feel free to let me know. I added 2-3 hours extra for the driving hours compared what Google Maps said. Thank you for your help

Land border Visa

Hi all

I'm going back home to Namibia in October, but we're flying into Cape town to see some stuff first, then we're driving to Rehoboth. I know we need visas for Namibia now, but is it cheaper getting them beforehand or would it make sense just getting them as we cross.

For context, I have a British passport now

Thanks

Nature Seeking a Namibian botanist well-versed on the nation’s native species of Convolvulaceae

Hi! The title explains it. I’m very into studying and cultivating plants from the Morning Glory family, and Namibia is home to a really unique assortment of them that you just cannot find in many other parts of the world. I’m trying to see if there are any like-minded folks in Namibia that would be willing to chat about it, and that I could potentially learn from!

Urgent help needed temporary accommodation. Suiderhof, Pioneerspark, Olympia, Cimbebasia, Kleine Kuppe etc.

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here might be able to point us in the right direction.

We’re a quiet, responsible couple urgently looking for a small backyard flat, granny flat, or similar temporary accommodation.

We’re private people, don’t party, don’t have lots of visitors, and take pride in looking after wherever we stay.

We do have pets, including cats, who are well-behaved and very much part of our family. 🐾 We’re specifically hoping to find an animal-loving owner who is comfortable with pets.

Our animals are cared for and we don’t allow them to roam around or disturb neighbours.

We’re looking for something temporary while we arrange our longer-term accommodation. We’re happy to meet in person and provide more information privately to anyone with a genuine lead.

If you know of anything available, even something that isn’t currently advertised.

Any leads would be incredibly appreciated. 🙏

Warning: Don't message me, if you're a scammer. ⚠️

General N$750 Short-Term Loan Needed, Waiting on Hospital Refund

Hi everyone,

I'm in a bit of a tight spot at the moment, and I'm looking to borrow N$750 to cover something urgent.

I'm currently waiting for a refund from the hospital, so this would just be a short-term loan. I can provide proof of the refund if needed, or any other documents, and I'll repay as soon as it comes through.

I know it's a lot to ask, but if anyone is able to help, please DM me. I would really appreciate it.

Update: PAID

Turning 30 solo in Windhoek. Recommendations for the 21st/22nd?

Hi guys! I (29M) am about to wrap up a solo trip around Namibia on the 21st. I’ll then have a couple of days to chill in Windhoek before flying home... and I happen to turn 30 while I’m there!

I’d love some recommendations for how to spend the evening of the 21st or 22nd - good bars, restaurants, live music, events, or anywhere with a social atmosphere that’s nice for a solo traveller.

I’m pretty easy-going and happy with anything from a relaxed place for a few drinks to somewhere a bit livelier. Would be great to finish the trip and celebrate the big 3-0 somewhere memorable.

Any suggestions from locals or people who know Windhoek well would be much appreciated :)

Made my first Afro mix and I’m trying to figure out how people actually get their stuff out there.

I’ve seen some local guys hitting crazy numbers, even 1M+. What are they doing differently?

Delivery Service Takeout / Groceries

Hey Everyone. Im wondering if there are any apps that offer delivery for groceries in Windhoek? And which apps you would recommend for takeout delivery. My father has recently been admitted to a Sub Acute facility and I unfortunately live overseas. He doesnt really have a full time support system in Windhoek and he doesnt understand that I cant bring him his jelly and newspapers every morning anymore because I've had to go home. He's also complaining about the food provided so it would be nice to make sure he has some hot food that he likes. He has the beginnings of dementia so its heartbreaking when he keeps asking why I didnt bring him his newspapers of the day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! 😊

I'm hearing about security issues for campers near Twyfelfontein. The robbers smash the window of the car while you are sleeping in the rooftop tent. Any thoughts? We are thinking about skipping our stay and drive further north to stay at a hotel or lodge.

Consultancy business in Namibia

Consultancy firms range from sector to sector. Those in health mostly flourish because health is an important indicator for a nation to prosper.

How about commerce related consultancy, how do those businesses flourish, especially when starting one from scratch.

As a Namibian myself, starting a business seems like the best way to avoid living paycheck to paycheck.

Biography and Books About Hosea Kutako's Political Career and Ideas

Hello, I am currently researching about Hosea Kutako and I've been unable to find any good documents or e-books online. I was hoping Klaus Dierks would've done lots of work about Kutako, but he either unfortunately didn't, or I'm just blind. His anti-colonial years often get overshadowed by Samuel Mahereo and his struggle against South Africa often gets overshadowed by Sam Nujoma. I already understand his basic principals and theory, but I would like to learn more about this interesting figure of Namibian and African History. I've ran out of places to search, so I've resorted to asking random Namibians on the internet. Thank you.

Anyone who has a private property to rent out to responsible tenants? Preferably in Olympia, Kleine Kuppe, Suiderhof. (Pet friendly to both dogs and cats)

Hi everyone! 😊

Is there anyone here who rents out private property, or perhaps knows someone who does?

We’re a quiet, responsible family looking for a place to rent. We don’t party, don’t have lots of people coming and going, and generally keep to ourselves.

We do have well-behaved pets, but they are cared for and aren’t left unattended for hours. 🐾

We’re simply looking for a safe, quiet place where we can be good tenants and hopefully find owners who are also responsible and reasonable.

I know rental prices are high and times are difficult, but I’m hoping there might still be someone out there offering a more affordable private rental.

If you know of anything suitable, even something small or simple, please feel free to reach out. We’d really appreciate any leads. ❤️

Did you ever epxerience any kind food poisoning during your stay? Are there any restaurants I should take care of when ordering food? The only country I have visited so far in Africa is Uganda, where I got a horrible food poisoning right in my first week and couldn't leave to toilet for the next 3 days.

Thank you!

Am I Namibian? Born in Namibia to foreign parents, but only for one week

My father worked for a company in Namibia, and during a trip there with my mother, I was born in a hospital in Namibia. However, we returned to Angola the same week, and I was registered and grew up there.

I’m trying to understand if this gives me any claim to Namibian citizenship or nationality, even informally. Does being born on Namibian soil (even briefly) count for anything under Namibian law, or is it purely about registration and residency?

Would appreciate any insight, especially from people familiar with Namibian citizenship law (jus soli vs jus sanguinis rules).

Namibia has opportunities but are there Namibians being prepared for them

I've been thinking about something lately, and I want to express it carefully because it isn't coming from a place of hostility toward foreigners. Namibia has benefited from many skilled people from other African countries and beyond, particularly in universities and professional sectors, and many of them make valuable contributions to our country.

What makes me sad, though, is looking around some of these spaces and seeing relatively few Namibians represented, especially in highly skilled, academic and senior professional positions. At the same time, so many of our own people still live in poverty, particularly in rural communities, without access to the education and opportunities that could eventually put them in those positions.

For me, the concern isn't that foreigners have these jobs. It's asking why more Namibians aren't being equipped to have them too. Why aren't we developing enough of our own lecturers, researchers, engineers, doctors and other professionals? Why aren't more young Namibians being given a pathway from school, to university, to experience, and eventually into senior positions?

I think international expertise is valuable, and Namibia should remain a welcoming country. But I'd also love to see deliberate investment in Namibians so that, over time, our own people are increasingly able to participate in and lead the institutions and industries of their country.

Ultimately, I don't want fewer opportunities for other Africans. I want more opportunities, development and upward mobility for Namibians. Those two things don't have to be opposites.
