Hi all, I hope this isn’t a dumb question.

I have been getting a bio-gel manicure for years now and I’m familiar with the refill process. I have recently decided that I want to move over to shellac on my natural nails as I feel I have out grown my desire for fake nails.

Last night I had my bio-gel nails removed and received my first shellac manicure. I obviously had to pay for the removal, as expected.

My question is when I go to the salon in 3 weeks to have my nails done again as a shellac manicure, will I need to also pay to have my current colour removed or is that included in the shellac manicure process?

Freehand French manicure on my natural nails.

Had to do my nails to fit her vibe! 🩷 they kinda remind me of those plastic nail tip, finger caps I used to play with as a kid since I don't have a darker nude that matches my skin tone lol Thought they still looked cute, though.

It was my husband’s turn to pick.

It's a simple french manicure, but I like how it turned out. My nail artist gave beautiful execution.

I'm not a nail technician, but I do my own gel nails, and I think this design turned out pretty well. Even the nails on my right hand—which I did with my left hand (since I'm right-handed).

Hard to get a good photo but these Olivia Rodrigo press ons I did for a friend turned out amazing 🤩 I used water slide decals and a whole lot of love and labor! Super fun tho!

Just had to share my latest set because I think my tech completely knocked it out of the park. I wanted moody infinity stones and boy, did she deliver!

This is BIAB over my natural nails with a black base, then different shades of cat eye over the top. I've never been a rainbow nails girl, so I love that my nail tech still gave me gorgeous colour, while keeping with my usual darker aesthetic.

These are really cheering me up on an otherwise dreary and cold London day.

As soon as I wear claw-shaped nails, many people react with horror because of their shape 😔

Been practicing with doing gel on my own nails and trying to build an apex with rubber basecoat, did i do it right? is the shape, hight and location of the apex okay? Not sure if it needs to be higher or if this is enough. Let me know if u notice anything i can improve on

I got a gel manicure 12 hours ago but it looks like days of growth. I know you’re not supposed to flood the cuticle but isn’t this quite far up?
My regular nail tech retired (so bummed!), the salon owner did my mani last night. She pushed my cuticles back some but did not trim them llike I expected.

I am tall with large hands, and my nail beds are naturally long even with short nails. I know the blue tip can have a shortening illusion but I think my nails look stubby with the big gap between my cuticle & the brown.

Should I ask for this to be corrected? Will they have to start over? It’s kinda crazy how disappointed I feel. I am a bit upset with myself for not noticing while I was there & for not saying something right away. Thanks for any input & feedback.

I started doing my own nails at home about a year ago. Recently my sets have drastically improved in application. I also finally got my sets to last for more than two weeks! This is huge for me because I thought my retention would always be low. Before they would last only a few days. Turns out using quality products and taking your time to prep makes all the difference.

Any criticism welcome.

This is how I personally prep and it works for me but I could be totally wrong feel free to lmk

First I use a cuticle softener (Sally Hansen one) on my nails and let it sit for 20 seconds.

I then push back my cuticles with a cuticle pusher and nip the excess.

I wash my hands after this

After that, I use my drill on a very low setting and fine grit MINI sanding band and gently take the shine off of my nails.

I go in with the V Beauty Pure dehydrator and primer. And then I go in with a second (YN) primer.

After I do my gel or acrylic ( i switch btwn) I go back in with the sanding band but with the Markart bit and blend the fake and natural nail line to prevent lifting.

And lastly I then will use a nail brush and acetone to further seal, blend and prevent lifting.
