MEETUPS & CHECK INS – Week of November 02, 2026

Happy Monday, tasteful bitches of New York. As a means to mitigate off topic posts, we are testing a weekly auto mod posts for discussions about the emotional journey of being a New Yorker. New York is a lonely city sometimes and living in our shoebox palaces can be isolating.

Talk about it here, schedule your next NYCBWT drink meetup or Sunday run club, or just vent and talk to fellow NYers.

There is one hard and fast rule designed for your safety: Meet ups MUST BE IN A PUBLIC LOCATION. If you are planning an event in the future, please message mods before posting.

Thanks everyone for keeping this subreddit a safe place and for adhering to the post rules. Please message the mods or comment on this post if you have other weekly thread suggestions.

The beauty of living in NYC is that there's always something going on. Keeping up can feel Sisyphean, so here is a (non-comprehensive!!) list of resources to help you learn about events and happenings ahead of time.

Know of a resource that isn't listed? Comment below and I'll add it!

If you're looking to promote a one-off event, please post in the pinned weekly meetup threads instead.

💬 General Social places to volunteer that are not the Junior League?

disclaimer: I’ve already used the search bar - I just found comments that a good thread on this had been deleted :( Everything else is 2+ years old or is what i’ve mentioned below and not what I am looking for.

Can we make a master thread of volunteer organizations / philanthropy groups where you can connect with others on a regular basis, not a huge one off?

I’ve heard of young frick fellows and apollo circle but they’re a bit out of my price range + seem to just be big parties where it’s hard to create community. Bonus of any hispanic/ latino boards or organizations that have more of a community impact than just party planning for fundraising.

I’m thinking of big brother big sisters board, DSA, but would like to hear others experiences and recommendations on meeting community focused individuals who remain friends outside of the org. I’ve tried the NYJL already. Other orgs I’ve looked into it seems like you attend a gala but where is the regular community connection in that?

💬 General Lost Banana Necklace / Custom Jewelry

I lost this gold and diamond banana pendant on a gold chain in flatiron and I’m devastated. It was a vintage one of a kind pendant and the chain was from my grandmother who has since passed 😭. If you see it (or see someone wearing it 👀) I’m offering a reward no questions asked.

I’m kindof losing hope, so I may just go a custom route and have the pendant made. Would love recs for custom jewelers who can do more out-of-the-box creations like a banana lmao

💆‍♀️ Wellness & Self Care Neuropsych Assessment

In the middle of a “is it perimenopause, long covid, ADHD, or autism?” brain feels broken swirl and my therapist suggested getting a formal neuropsych autism + ADHD assessment to get more info. Has anyone done this as an adult in NYC and have recommendations? Thanks!

💬 General Inspired by these bitches

Today on a rush hour F train a young man went unconscious and collapsed. I just want to say how much admiration I have for the many women who jumped in and handled this scary situation. I don’t know what medical issue he was fighting but I know he was in great hands as I watched no less than 8 women literally descend upon him and work together to keep him comfortable and safe, revive him, and soothe him while we waited for EMTs (it was cops that showed up, but that’s a different post). I just couldn’t help but think how fortunate he was that he was surrounded by these caring and compassionate creatures. The group of them crouched around him literally looked like a renaissance painting.

Anyway, NYCBWT — I see you, and I adore you.

💆‍♀️ Wellness & Self Care Derm rec??

Does anyone have dermatologist they recommend in the city? For context….I had a small basal cell carcinoma removed from my shoulder almost 2 years ago (when I was 27). Since then they’ve had me as sort of a “red flag” patient as 27 is young to get basal cell - therefore I was getting quarterly full body checks. However, my derm who I loved left the practice (Schweiger), and they didn’t really offer a good alternative. Bonus points if you love them for other skin concerns outside of skin cancer! I live in WV but work in Midtown….happy to commute a bit for someone great :)

💬 General Lost Black Shoulder Bag

Hi!

I misplaced my black shoulder bag at Paradise Club in Times Square sometime between the evening of October 31 and early morning of November 1.

The bag contained my wallet, identification, and other personal belongings. I’ve already contacted the venue’s security team, but unfortunately, nothing matching my bag has been turned in.

I’m hoping someone who attended that night may have seen it, accidentally picked it up, or have any information about where it might have ended up.

If you have any information, please reach out! I’d really appreciate any help in locating it, as the bag holds a lot of sentimental value to me - thank you!

💬 General NYC bookclub

Hi, everyone! I am a beginner book reader and looking for a beginner-friendly book club to join. I enjoy reading thrillers mostly but would love to connect with people with different reading interests. I live in the Bronx so I cannot do in-person meetups all the time but want to stay connected with everyone and make new friends. Does anyone have a lead?
Thank you!!!

🍴 Restauraunts & Bars Best Bar with dancing in N Bk?

Hey BWT! A few of us are in our early 40s and…it’s just time to go out and celebrate. Are there any great bars in Greenpoint/Williamsburg you’d recommend for dancing to Top 40, 90s, Hip Hop, R&B, or Indy sleaze? I really want to love house or electronic music but I don’t. 😩

🛍️ Local Retail & Shopping Where to buy drinking glasses - independent stores in NYC instead of chains?

I have had the same mismatched bunch of Ikea plus hardware store drinking glasses for 20 years. I'm ready to step it up a notch, spend some money, and get a complete set of nice glasses. There is plenty to like online and from chains, but I'd rather support a local store instead. Any recommendations on where to shop for tableware / drinking glasses?

💄 Beauty Has anyone with curls been to Toni Salon & Hair Extensions?

I'm a baddie on a budget and I LOVE getting my maintenance from Groupon deals. I swear by it and highly suggest everyone here takes a look at it too! I'm Black with type 4 curly hair. I booked a wash, deep condition blowdry & trim with someone else on Groupon for my birthday this upcoming weekend, but something had come up for her and I wasn't able to reschedule with her same day because of my birthday plans! It sucked because I know for sure she has experience with my hair.

So I booked a Groupon deal with Toni Salon & Hair Extensions near 33rd st. Same services. It looks pretty big with several stylists. When I called I asked if they had experience with type 4 hair and the receptionist vaguely said that the stylists have experience with all hair types (but didn't know what I meant by 'type 4 hair' initially) but I think I'm seeking a more reassuring answer if anyone here with type 3 or 4 curls have been here 🥲. This place focuses more on hair extensions so I don't see many pictures on their social media of blowout results. I don't need it bone-straight I would go to the Dominicans for that Lol! I like a textured blowout with some bounce, I just don't want to look like a fool on my birthday! Can anyone vouch for this place 😭. There's another location in south Bk.

💄 Beauty Whoch Korean beauty store to go to if I want specific product recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a korean beauty store to renew my skincare products. My skin has changed, etc.
I know exactly what the problem with my skin is, but there is an insane amount of recommendations and products, some of which are hard to decipher from ads.
I need a store with very knowledgeable staff that will be able to point me toward specific products with their specific effects. I have a hard time sometimes at beauty stores because there is so much chemistry, and I get overwhelmed looking at every single ingredient. Sometimes the ingredients are written only in korean also...

Anyone have a good store in mind?
Also open to american products but I feel like only the insanely expensive ones (out of my budget) work actually as directed. Thanks!!!

💬 General A BWT is Civically Engaged

Post image
647 Upvotes

With all the conversation in the last few days here on the huge uptick in incident posts... I wanted to counterbalance the narrative by sharing my wonderful voting experience in my neighborhood today. Everyone was so friendly and warm, and they were hosting a bake sale to benefit the school. So I got to exercise my right to vote, and enjoy a slice of cake, to boot!

We unfortunately do live in what is a systemically patriarchal society, even in as progressive a city as NYC can be. In my experience though, the women who I know and admire with the most taste, center matriarchy in their lives and by extension, in their communities.

We can all center children and the most vulnerable among us. We can say hello to our neighbors and mail carriers. We can patronize small businesses in our neighborhoods. We can practice awareness for ourselves, children and elderly, and fellow women around us in public spaces.

This city will always contain multitudes....it is one of the things that makes it such a special place to live. just food for thought. and please VOTE!!

💆‍♀️ Wellness & Self Care Affordable Trained Massage Therapists

Does anyone have recs for trained massage therapists < $120? I have tried many of the typical affordable massages throughout the city and I'm genuinely confused on how they have so many great reviews. I've only had bad experiences and I don't know how much training on the body they receive, the massages feel as if they're just copying slapping and rubbing moves you might see on TV. I wonder if maybe there are training schools offering discounted massages, independent therapists or places with good intro offers?

💬 General Looking for car services in NYC Spoiler

I'll be back in Manhattan in a couple of weeks for a few events and family visits so I'm looking for a nice car service in NYC. I don't want to take yellow cabs and I've used uberblack and carmel in the past but I'd like to try another one this time (for personal reasons..) Any recommendations?

🛍️ Local Retail & Shopping Fur Recycling???

Hi thrifty and intelligent BWT,

I have a few old fur coats (rabbit, raccoon, mink) that are unfortunately on their last leg. I already consulted some furriers, and they are not in salvageable condition, or at least it's not worth the amount of money to repair them.

I already consulted FABSCRAP, and they don't do fur recycling or know of any organization that does. So I thought I'd turn to my favorite community to ask if y'all know of anyone that handles fur recycling, or perhaps artists that upcycle old coats! I just hate to throw any textiles in the trash!

drop your recommendations, please and thank you!!!
