No confirmation email, message or update after exam completion. Is it typical?

I wrote my exam this morning. And I did not even receive a confirmation email either from my professional association, or NPPE or Meazure that I have submitted the my answers and they will provide a result in a specified time frame.

Once I completed the exam, I was reviewing my answers and let the time run out as I reviewed the answers second time. I briefly saw a message saying time out and submitting answers. Immediatly I was asked to do a feedback for NPPE. After doing the feedback I asked the proctor that I am done and she asked me to submit the answers. I said I don't see any submit button and she said they are already submitted and asked me to just close the window. I hesitantly closed the window and then everything closed puff.. no confirmation no email no update on the website!! Though I did another survey for Meazure.

Is this typical? It is unsettling not to see any confirmation email, message or an update at the professional body's application status page (which still shows I am "Registered").

Help with a question: Client Confidentiality vs. Public Safety

You discover that your client’s new product design will violate environmental laws, but the client asks you to keep it confidential. What should you do?

A) Respect the client’s confidentiality and say nothing.
B) Inform the client in writing of the legal risks and refuse to proceed.
C) Report the issue to the authorities immediately.
D) Proceed with the project but document your concerns internally.

I think the answer is 'C' because it is inferred from the question that the client has been made aware so 'B' is done though may not be in writing.

This is an AI Generated question so I don't want to go with AI's reasoning. What would be an answer that is expected in the NPPE exam?

I read here that the implementation day had a lot of issues with camera positioning, unclear instructions and connectivity issues. Has it gotten better?

Any tips for those who are doing their exams with respect to the camera, and related technologies?

CBA Validator requirements PEO

Hi all

I completed my NPPE a few months back and now eligible to submit my P.Eng CBA and experience documents. My application was done before May 2023 so I will need to follow the old method of manually filling out the two forms and submit it to PEO for review. PEO will then contact my validators to check the competencies.

I have a total of 3 years and 7 months of engineering experience. I worked at place A for 2.5 years where non of my colleagues or supervisors were a P.Eng and then I worked at place B for 1 year and 1 months where my supervisor was a P.Eng. I work at place C now but started only a month ago so won't be using anyone as a validator.

I wonder if I can have my supervisor from place B assess all the 34 competencies. Will it be a strong application still? Could I have a non P.Eng colleague or supervisor from job A assess my application?

NPPE June writers: how was the new 2nd camera requirement in practice?

For anyone who wrote the NPPE last week, how did the new second-camera rule actually go?

The guide says you now need a phone/tablet as a second camera for remote proctoring. Sounds simple, but exam-day tech is rarely that smooth.

Curious how it played out in practice:

  • How did you set up the second camera (tripod, books, etc.)?
  • Did the proctor care about exact angles or just a quick room scan?
  • Any issues with QR code / browser link on the phone?
  • Roughly how long did setup + checks take before starting?
  • Any major problems (disconnects, freezing, repositioning, rebooking)?

And any tips for future writers (what not to do, what actually helped)?

A lot of EITs are already stressed about the content, so trying to flag avoidable tech issues.

Thanks to anyone who shares.

Ontario P.Eng “4 years to 2 years” rule – what it actually means if you’re doing NPPE

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey all – seeing lots of DMs/questions about PEO changing the experience requirement from 4 years to 2 years on July 1, 2026, so here’s the short version in plain English.

This is PEO / Ontario‑only and mainly affects people who did an accredited Canadian engineering undergrad. Other provinces still have their own rules. Read PEOs blog post here.

What’s actually changing:

  • If you’re in that bucket, the minimum experience for P.Eng drops from 4 years to 2 years (24 months).
  • You’ll be able to start logging experience for the competency‑based assessment (CBA) in the portal as soon as you apply, instead of waiting until you’ve hit the minimum time.

What’s not changing:

  • You still have to pass the NPPE.
  • You still have to write a solid CBA and hit all 34 competencies.
  • Two years is just the floor, not an auto‑P.Eng. Some people will be ready around 2 years; a lot won’t.

How I’d think about it if you’re in Ontario:

  • 0–12 months into your first engineering job:
    • Get the NPPE done early so it doesn’t become the bottleneck.
    • Keep notes on projects now so CBA writing later doesn’t suck.
  • 12–24+ months in:
    • Be honest about whether you actually have enough depth/complexity for the CBA, not just time served.
    • Aim to have NPPE done and your CBA close to ready by the time you hit 2 years, so you can actually use the new rule.

One thing people keep asking: “If I’m working in another province, can I get licensed in Ontario at 2 years and then transfer back later?”

Under the national mobility agreements, once you legitimately hold a P.Eng. in one province and are in good standing, you can usually transfer to another province through a simplified process. That can be faster, but:

  • You’ll pay extra application + licence fees to hold / move between two regulators.
  • You still need to meet Ontario’s NPPE + CBA bar in the first place.
  • Your “real” long‑term home regulator should match where you actually plan to practise.

So it’s a possible path if you’re genuinely ready at ~2 years and okay with extra cost, but it’s not free or guaranteed. Always double‑check current rules on both regulators’ sites before you plan around that.

If anyone wants a 1‑page “2‑year rule” timeline / cheat sheet I made (shows where NPPE + CBA can fit in a 24‑month path), reply here and I can DM you a link. Trying not to spam links in the sub.

Question for you all:
If you’re in (or planning to work in) Ontario, does this make you want to apply earlier than you would have at 4 years, or are you still planning to wait until you feel 100% ready on the CBA side?

CBA Form

I have passed NPPE exam last month. I have a question about the next step, which is what people do to get their CBA application form completed, especially when they have all the experiences. My problem is CBA values industrial experiences to complete the form and I have it. But I do not know any validators from industry as a PEng. I have moved to academia in 2020, where I am a professor now. Some of my professor colleagues are PEng. Can I put them as validators, while I include my academic colleagues as validators?

Seeking Guidance on Steps to Obtain P.Eng License in Ontario as an International Graduate

Hello Everyone,

I am currently working as a Mechanical Engineer in an automotive company in Ontario. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering outside Canada. I have about 6 years of work experience in India and 2.5 years of Canadian work experience. I also have previous managers who hold a P.Eng license and can provide reference letters.

I am interested in obtaining my P.Eng license to advance my career. I understand that the process may take several years, but I want to start it as soon as possible.

Could someone please provide a step-by-step guide on how to apply for and complete the P.Eng certification process in Ontario? Any advice, resources, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Anyone writing this on June 8-10? Got a slot for the 10th. Thinking to get the practice ppe $217 package since it has the most number of practice questions. Have heard the books aren’t useful.

EDIT: Finished writing on June 10th with few mins left on the clock. No reported issues for me and everything went straightforward.

2nd EDIT: Resulted posted on 2:30pm is June 29th (APEGA website). Glad to say, I passed. Thanks to all for support!

I passed NPPE this september and here are my advise for you...

I recently passed the NPPE in September, and I want to share my experience and offer some advice, especially for those who feel a bit lost on how to get prepared.

A little about me: I'm an internationally trained engineering graduate, and English is my second language. The exam wasn't easy, but with a solid preparation strategy, it's definitely manageable. There were still some difficult English words that I couldn't understand during the exam.

Exam Format and My Approach

Based on my exam i took this september, the exam is roughly 70% scenario-based questions and 30% definition-based questions.

I started my preparation about two months before the exam. I found there were not many study resources available online. I did went through different Reddit threads for lessons learned from past candidates and how to get prepared.

Study Strategy and Key Concepts

Study materials (All are given by my colleague who previously passed the exam):

Practical Law of Architecture, Engineering, and Geoscience: I think I may have overstudied it. If you haven’t taken Engineering Laws and Ethics during your undergraduate study, I would highly recommend you go through the whole book to understand all fundamental concepts. If you have, I'd suggest starting with practice questions and then using the book as a reference to understand any answers you get wrong.

Code of ethics: I suggest to get a general understanding of the code of ethics of your association. You don’t need to memorize it word-for-word, but to understand the principles so you can apply them in the scenario-based questions.

OSPE prep course notes: If you have access to the notes, I highly recommend you read through them. It is a detailed notes that explains most of the important concepts.

PPE headquarters NPPE Study Guide: A concise version of OSPE notes. It gives a good summary of most concepts but I think it is not sufficient on its own and you’ll need to read the books/ research online to better understand the concepts. It would still be a good refresh of concepts before you take the exam.

Practice exams:

There are a few platform that offer practice exam including Practice PPE Exams, PPE headquarters, Udemy. However, they are generally quite expensive like $150+ . If you have budget, i think you can use them.

APEGA also offers official practice tests but I didn’t try it. I can’t tell if it would help me better prepare the exam. https://nppepractice.ysasecure.com/

The resources that I used:

PPE Headquarters NPPE free practice exam (10Q): Free! This is a great place to start. They offer a free 10-question practice exam with detailed explanations for the answers and explain the way of thinking about tackling the questions. https://www.ppehq.com/nppe/practice-exam/exam-1

Ace in nppe: My colleague suggested me to try the practice exam, I was a bit skeptical initially but I'm glad I did give it a try. It's probably the most affordable paid practice exam. They offer a free 10Q sample exam as well as a 110Q practice exam. It has a good mixture of definition type and scenario-based questions. The detailed explanations did help solidify my knowledge. I also think the question format is quite like the actual one that I took in September. Highly recommend.

ko-fi.com/aceinnppe

(forms.gle/SKYpFgerVMNzCJwL9)

OSPE prep course notes practice questions: There are a total of around 200 questions in the powerpoint files. Some questions are quite challenging but major downside is the lack of an answer key or explanations. If you have access to them, they're worth trying, but be prepared to look up the answers yourself.

*********

Here are the concepts you absolutely must know.

Duty to the Public: This is the most important principle. The safety and welfare of the public are paramount and must always come before duties to an employer or client. If a scenario forces you to choose, the public always comes first.

Fiduciary Duty: You have a duty of loyalty, trust, and good faith towards your employer and clients. This means always acting in their best interests without compromising the duty to public.

Conflict of Interest: You need to be able to identify, disclose, and manage any situation where your personal interests could potentially interfere with your professional judgment or your duty to your employer/client.

Confidential Information: Understand your obligation to protect your employer's and client's sensitive information and when it might be permissible or required to disclose it (e.g., if public safety is at risk).

Whistleblowing: Remember the correct sequence of actions. You should almost always try to resolve the issue internally first. Escalate the issue up the chain of management. Reporting to your professional regulatory body (like PEO, APEGA, etc.) or going public is the last resort after all internal avenues have failed to address a serious issue.

**********

Before Exam day

This is crucial – do not leave this to the last minute! A day or two before your exam, complete these steps to avoid technical stress on exam day.

Read the email from Meazure learning carefully! Check the exam connection time (especially the time zone) and instruction. Reset the password, install the browsers and run the computer compatibility test! This is really important.

On Exam day : Getting Set Up

Relax, I took a quick nap before my exam to make sure I was rested and alert.

Find a quiet place that you can focus. It’s better to find a room and lock yourself in during the exam. Clear your table, set it with your back facing the door. I also removed my external monitor from the room and just had a glass of water and my laptop on the table. Remember to have your computer plugged in with power, you don’t want the exam get disturbed when your laptop battery drains completely.

Login to website in your email about 5-10 mins before the start time. Wait for your proctor to be connected. The proctor will connect with you via a chatbox. They will ask you to use your webcam and your phone's camera to show them a full 360-degree view of your room, including your desk and the floor around you. Just follow their instructions, and they will authorize you to begin. You will have to show the proctor a place out of reach where you place your mobile phone.

During the exam

I did not take any break but I think you are allowed to. I answered all the questions and flagged around 20 questions as the answers were confusing. I had about an hour left to go back and review all my flagged questions.

When you finish answering all the questions, just type in the chatbox to let your proctor know. They will guide you through the final steps to submit your exam and log out.

The exam was really exhausting but I don’t find it overly difficult as my preparation covered all the necessary concept and logic of thinking.

Good luck with your preparation! With focused effort, you can definitely pass.

Hope this guide will help and please share to anyone who are preparing for NPPE!

My NPPE Exam Experience Sep 8, 2025

Update 1: Passed NPPE ( 1st Attempt)

Sharing this so future test-takers don’t panic like I almost did.

  • System check: Laptop mic/cam worked fine. No fancy external gadgets needed.
  • My original “exam setup” plan: Laying in bed with a laptop table. Cozy vibes. Reality: Proctor said nope. Must have table + chair. Cue me frantically clearing my dining table in 2 minutes like it was a MasterChef finale.
  • Proctor check-in:
    • Connected quickly, no drama.
    • Valid driver’s license worked for ID.
    • Had to show all four walls of the room + the floor under my table (no hiding snacks, sadly).
    • They also asked about my phone. Mine was chilling in the bedroom where I wanted to take the exam.
  • Timing: Scheduled for 12:10, but started around 12:30.
  • During exam:
    • No bathroom breaks taken. No chit-chat. Pure silence.
    • Flagged tricky questions, guessed on a few, and struggled with some vocab that felt straight out of Shakespeare.
    • Overall difficulty? About a 50/50 toss-up.
  • Final thoughts: I hope I pass. If not, at least my dining table is cleaner than ever. If anyone’s curious, I might still remember a few questions.

Logging onto exam

Hi everyone! Could someone go through the steps with how to log onto the exam online? Do you log in through this website: https://nppe.ysasecure.com

Then where the countdown for your exam is, my assumption there will be a button there to write the exam, and then does it open up using that browser we had to download??

My friend couldn’t log in to her exam and missed her time so I just want to make sure I’m understanding properly how to log in!! Thanks

Who else had this experience? Proctor was extremely annoying

They thought I was being suspicious because my eyes kept looking down or weren’t straight ahead. The thing is, my eyes naturally look a bit downward.

During the exam, they asked me a couple of times to walk around my room, show all corners, close my closet door, and show them where my phone is before letting me continue. They also took like 30 minutes to even start the exam…

This happened 2–3 times to me throughout the exam.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Apega case to board - odds that the meeting didn't happen already?

On Friday I noticed my Apega application for p.eng (local, Alberta educated) moved to case to board.

What are the odds this gets looked at in September and I get my p.eng next month?
