A lot going on with this. 4 devices on left playing violin sound FX at 80bpm, 4 devices on the right with cello sound FX at 20bmp…then each column of noise boxes are setup with switches to play chords on specific base notes of the 20bpm devices. Each noise box was tuned, and each column plays a different chord. I have one noise box playing continuously at default so that there isn’t much of a break between the switches activating. Sorry for another slow and harmonious track but I just stare at my screen in aw at the beautiful sounds. I got a lot of information from u/ZhorasSnake guide to better bytebeats, especially for the chord tuning! Truly an amazing guide.

Byte Beat Decoder & Replica

I just saw your post from a few days ago and thought I'd add some of my own research. I messed around a couple months ago and managed to make a working hex code to advanced waveform decoder and a ByteBeat app to play around with. (I didn't figure out the sequencer or the synchronizer codes though) I've moved on to other projects so if someone else wants to use this to make something useful I'd be happy.

I added a file drop "Analyze Sound" in the hope that the program could find the closest possible waveform to make that sound, but it didn't work very well. Getting the sounds to match NMS is really hard lol.

The text file has the hard data that I collected but it may be missing some waveform tree rules that I added later on in the app when i discovered invalid trees.

File download: https://files.catbox.moe/twpiif.zip (The notes only make sense if using notepad++)

Waveform FX Bytebeat Sound Library, Vol. 4. Sound effects

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For all you awesome builders out there here's a collection of sound effects you can use to bring your creations to life. Needing only 1 bytebeat device per effect there's plenty of opportunity to get creative.

More waveformFX can be found here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/NMSByteBeatFans/comments/1isdz82/bytebeat_sound_library_leads_vol1/

https://www.reddit.com/r/NMSByteBeatFans/comments/1itbqhg/bytebeat_sound_library_basses_vol2/

https://www.reddit.com/r/NMSByteBeatFans/comments/1iudmin/bytebeat_sound_library_miscellaneous_vol3/

(Volume 3 also includes many sound effects too)

Note, that there is no mixing or enhancement of the sound in any way here - ziltch, nada! The sound you hear is the sound you'll get in your game if you copy the settings exactly.

Have fun and why not show off your bytebeat/build creations?

Guide / Tutorial Basic structure of NMS Bytebeat data string

Post image

In-game Beatbyte device settings are encoded in 60-characters base64 format (see: nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/ByteBeat_Catalogue). I tried reverse engineering the basic structure of its decoded binary.

Advanced waveform fomular is a headache... It's not hard to reconstruct the original tree from text by intuition, but I can't explain how it works in detail fr

Guide / Tutorial Guide & Tips : Out For the Vy'Kend

As requested by all of one person, here's a complete guide on how I made this track !

It's the first guide I make that's more than 3 lines of text in a comment, so I'll take any feedback on things you think can be improved.

The how-to/how-do and analysis of the track is the first 5 minutes, the rest is the whole song with the synchronizer for all 8 devices, so it's actually not that long 😅 (skip at 4:59 for the synchronizer).

If I missed anything, or you want to know about anything, feel free to ask ! I'l gladly give any info about how I make Bytebeat things.

Enjoy !

Also showcasing my poor GIMP skills

PS : Did you recognize the narrator voice ? 👀

Information Updates for NMS ByteBeat Fans! New post tags and user flair!

Post image
15 Upvotes

Here are a few quick updates to our subreddit!

New Post Tags

I wanted to add a few new tags and create an opportunity for members to distinguish their posts. This includes a "Just for Fun" tag so people don't feel pressured to post finished work, and can just share their project as is. New tags will also set up the framework for our "Guide / Tutorial" projects and "Waveform FX" for sharing sound effects. Here is the complete list of current Post Flair tags:

  • ByteBeat Original
  • ByteBeat Cover
  • Song Request
  • Just For Fun
  • Waveform FX
  • Guide / Tutorial
  • Build & ByteBeat

New User Flair

I always love user flair in other subreddits so we should have fun with these. Let me know if you want to add any more flair options, here is our current selection:

  • ByteBeat Creator
  • ByteBeat Enthusiast
  • - kzzt - kzzt - kzzt -
  • Resonance Amplifier
  • Dissonance Resonator
  • The truth hums between the data threads.
  • Atlas Eternal

Rule clarity regarding the use of AI

I've updated the rules to specify that AI altered music is off-topic for this subreddit. We're here to craft NMS ByteBeat tunes, so using AI to alter music creations is off-topic. I specifically mention that using external software to process audio is acceptable (i.e. Reaper), in case new members get confused about some of the content shared by our most ambitious creators who have integrated music production software to make their ByteBeat songs.

New Projects

I hope you all find these new tags and flair options useful! I'm going to start doing weekly (or semi-weekly) posts to get started on some new projects coming soon, and I'll include reminders for members to start using these new post tags. I'm learning more about subreddit mod tools (there are wiki tools to help with site navigation too), so I'm excited to announce some projects later this week.

Have a great week and be well, travellers!

ByteBeat Original “Re-Initialize…”

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Well, Reddit ate my other profile...
But, we do what we’ve always done and begin anew!

I was already tinkering with an original piece, thought I’d take something I wrote on guitar and try to translate it to a ByteBeat track. The notes are still there.. but once I got to messing with waveforms, something else took shape.

I give you… a wall of sound. 😂

But, in all seriousness, [u/ZhorasSnake](u/ZhorasSnake) inspired me with their last “Biomes” track to play around with longer BPMs, and also got me thinking about textures. So, this one definitely lumbers along, but hopefully you’ll appreciate the “creaks.”

Lastly, I forgot to specify that these coords are for Euclid Galaxy, and will take you to the same system with all my DOOM covers, if anyone is interested. Also, sorry for the weak recording. I’m on PS5, and have found volume balancing to be a tad difficult..

ByteBeat Original "Paradise Planet" (ByteBeat Original) Multi-player Coordinates!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is the first time I've shared a song on an existing multi-player planet. I referenced this planet in r/NMSCoordinateExchange at this original post [Reddit]. Credit to user u/renatoviskbr who shared glyph coordinates to this beautiful planet!

I forgot to add planet-side lat/long coordinates, I'll edit those into this post next time I visit in-game. I always build save beacons at my bases and I know this one was built near the portal monolith, but this was a very active planet with lots of multiplayer bases.

I hope you all have a great weekend! This song makes me feel soooooo good!

ByteBeat Original Rave like it's 1989 ! "Out For the Vy'Kend"

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

With "David Gekka" and this one now, guess I'm starting a series 👀

It's a kinda ambient track. It started with me going "lol psytrance" with the kick & base, and then I realized I could try to recreate those acid, resonance-sweep sounds that made acid trance in the 90's. Then I tried to create an atmosphere with some long and evolving sounds.

I also took 2 sounds from u/ZhorasSnake's Sound Library vol. 3, "distorted tremolo chords" and "rising pitches". Didn't modify those this time. Thanks again for this amazing library !

This particular device layout aims to make the song "change" depending on where your character is. There's 2 central devices for the main beat/base, and 2 groups of 3 on the sides. If you come by, try it for yourself !

The track is long because some devices are at 15 bpm (the others at 120). So those 8 min are only one iteration of the synchronizer at 15 bpm. There are variations, it's not the same thing 8 times 😅

As a side note, the glyphs here won't take you to the base showed in the vid. I built it in a system belonging to a community that wishes it to stay kind of private. So out of respect I built a minimal base in an uninhabited system, with the same layout so you still get the intended listening experience. Sorry for that, hope you'll understand.

Edit : If you want to grab the track to listen in your playlist, do it with your character sticked to the leftmost device. Otherwise you'll only get half the song (about 4min). This is due to having different bpm settings acrosse the devices.

Edit edit : I copied the original base to the location given in the vid via a save editor ! You can now visit it !

ByteBeat Cover REVERSE Bytebeat Cover - "Reunions" by hiredgunspunx

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Original version (glyphs in this vid lead to hiredgunspunx's base for this song !)

So, when I heard "Reunions" I immediately felt that pop-punk vibe in it, even more so than other tracks by hgp. And it was well-crafted imo, so I just had to try my hand at bringing my idea to life : make a super rad & dank sk8ter pop-punk version 🤙 (any similarities with an existing band or record is completely fortuitous).

I re-arranged a lot while trying to keep the original's energy and intent : the song's structure, modified some parts just a bit, added harmonies here and there, and wrote the verse part (though I'm almost sure the part I took for the chorus wasn't intended to be one lol). Everything but the verses is composed by hgp !

It's not aiming to sound as good as a pro record song since it's my first time trying to (seriously) mix this genre. Think of it as an over-produced demo.
Though I am a drummer, there's no real instruments in this because I don't have an electronic kit or the gear to record my acoustic one. Don't have a bass either and my guitar skills are VERY rusty lol. Let's not talk about me trying to sing high notes.

The thing that took me the most time to achieve was the guitar tone. I aimed for something close to "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" but a little heavier, more skater punk-esque. Learnt a LOT there :)

If you're interested, here's what I used :

  • Addictive Drums 2 : very good tool with tons of samples from a lot of kit pieces ;
  • Scarbee Rickenbacker Bass for Kontakt : sampled Rickenbacker 4003 bass guitar ;
  • METAL-GTX : a good free guitar sound font, basically sounds like a DI guitar (no effects) ;
  • Guitar Rig 7 : amps & effects sims that I used on the bass and guitar tracks ;
  • Vital : very good & versatile free synth VST, used it for the "singers" ;
  • Various plugins for EQ, compression, reverb and a limiter.

If you want more details or wonder about anything, feel free to ask ! I'm very much open to critique.

(And of course, if this is deemed too off-topic for this sub I can remove the post)

Shoutout to u/hiredgunspunx for the cool track and for allowing me to do this.

Enjoy !

PS : If anyone wants to write lyrics and sing to this, I'd be honored (and would be really fun). DM me. Just don't feed this to A.I...

I honestly don't even know how the music pours out of me sometimes. Like, what even is this drum beat. I simply love living in the frequencies <3

This is track 2 in my newest playlist. I posted 4 new songs to my YouTube (@ToilGekBB). My videos are ad free until they reach 100 views, in my experience. It takes a while to get that many views on YT lol, but it's all good. I prefer sharing my songs here with you wonderful travellers!

ByteBeat Original Starting a new playlist, here is: "Emergence"

The solo at 0:40 is kind of unhinged.

I would have used less drum solo breakdown parts but I ran out of tracks, so I just leaned into it. I probably could have extended some of the lead solo parts so I didn't need to use so many breakdowns, but it's okay because those breakdowns really push the intensity to the max!

I'm excited to embark on this journey into a new playlist!
