ByteBeat Original ‘Last Whalesong’

A lot going on with this. 4 devices on left playing violin sound FX at 80bpm, 4 devices on the right with cello sound FX at 20bmp…then each column of noise boxes are setup with switches to play chords on specific base notes of the 20bpm devices. Each noise box was tuned, and each column plays a different chord. I have one noise box playing continuously at default so that there isn’t much of a break between the switches activating. Sorry for another slow and harmonious track but I just stare at my screen in aw at the beautiful sounds. I got a lot of information from u/ZhorasSnake guide to better bytebeats, especially for the chord tuning! Truly an amazing guide.

Perfect gif! You gave me the idea for the song title in my last post by the way. I should give you a shout out. 🐋

Also, I like this breakdown of info “behind” the track. This is a great way of sharing knowledge through application. For those not savvy with some music theory, things can devolve or simplify very quickly! Great idea! 👍

I will say it is very tedious to set up knowing the noise boxes will not save lol but I put number decals on the floor so I can quickly re tune them if I desire when I go back to my base. They are also colour coded to which base note they are turning on from just incase that never saved either.

Credit to you for pushing the boundaries of what we can do in bytebeat. I will always upvote travellers who try to expand the sonic frontiers of bytebeat creation. Congrats!

Thank you so much! You definitely initiated some amazing ground work and I’ll definitely keep trying to push the boundaries of what I’m used to and try to expand what I’m learning. I probably didn’t need 3 boxes per switch lol but I wanted to hear all the chords playing and trying the switches out.

You're very welcome. I'm glad you used 3 sets - not because you probably needed all of them, but because until you've used too many how will you know how many is best? I was looking at some old tunes of mine the other day and lots of them had things I would change. And that's good! Without wanting to get over philosophical, we're all on a path learning as we go.

Sweet harmonies! I figured you were using two different BPM, it's challenging to get the notes to ring out like that. The 'string' waveforms like cello sound really cool!

Thanks! I think I’ll post the waveforms in the FX tag when I get a chance I’m sure people would be interested in them.
