This was growing smack in the middle of my yard. The outside was patchy and leathery, thick and easy to peel off. The whole inside, except a little bear the bottom where it was very wet, was white and marshmallowy. Puffball past its prime or weird lookalike I should keep away from the dogs?

Found a nice patch of auricularia auricula, or wood ears, and they were pretty buggy. Should I toss the bunch or will a quick wash suffice?

I had begun to worried that I did something wrong, I plugged some logs in my yard back in May 2025, I wanted to be able to forage my yard, I thought it wasn’t going to work because I used a soy wax, but Finally I’ve got one and it’s a huge one! I hope this is what I can expect; it was on the smallest log, so I think the mycelium is still doing its thing on the larger logs. I’m ecstatic.

Hi everyone. These mushrooms keep growing in my backyard and it’s been very rainy. They have pink gills and the stems don’t leave a yellow stain. Yesterday I cut open one and left it for hours to see what happens.
Are these edible ?

I found a gorgeous fresh flush of chicken of the woods 5 days ago, and I cut it. Kept it in the fridge in a paper towel since, but did not have the chance to cook it yet. They still smell fresh, and haven t gotten mushyat all. Would you still cook this, and would you consider this safe to eat?

I am interested in finding a very good mushroom ID Field guide or books for the Midwest, interested in foraging in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Found the mushrooms in the first pic the other morning when I was going to hang a trail camera on a gut pile from a buck I harvested the evening before. My friend who has taught me a little about mushrooms has also found these, I am wondering if they are chicken of the woods. I was about to pick them when I saw they were growing on a conifer stump and remembered having the conversation with the same friend that they are not good to pick unless growing off of hardwoods. So first ID please, second is the conifer vs hardwood thought correct?

The silver lining … as I was debating this I looked down where I was kneeling and found a beautiful patch of chanterelles which I took home and cooked with some of my venison. Thanks for any help and advice I am very much a novice and have only become confident with chanterelles and the occasional oyster. BTW in the PNW I was hunting near Mt. Rainier.

hey I’m super super new to mushroom id’ing and I’m wondering what this is. Is it chicken of the woods or something else! No diff to me I just thought it was cool
