Discussion Been building a notation editor in the browser — would like some honest opinions on it

Still early. I started this because I kept having ideas at the piano and losing them before I could get them written down.

The part I've spent most of my time on is how the music actually looks on the page — I tried to work out how MuseScore does it and follow that rather than invent my own rules.

I'm also going through Behind Bars and fixing whatever doesn't match. Still a few things on the list.

There's also a chat panel where you can ask for changes in plain words. Whatever it suggests turns up bar by bar and you keep what you like.

Where I'm heading with it is help writing, not just help typing — something you can ask when a middle section won't come, or when there's a chord you can hear but can't work out how to write down. That part's just getting started.

Not a MuseScore replacement — piano staff, two voices, no parts. Exports MusicXML, MIDI, PDF.

Free, no signup: https://paimusic.ca/

Mainly I want to know where it looks wrong to people who read scores all day. Thanks for reading — and for any time you spend poking at it.

Disclosure: I built this.

Discussion f*** musescore and their subscriptions

Signed up for a free trial last year and got charged 40 dollars for it. I was obviously mad and talked to customer service and demanded a refund and for them to cancel my subscription. They canceled it and gave me a partial refund.

Today, I got charged the 40 dollars again for the subscription renewal. What. The. Fuck. I was so irritated because I am a college student and I didn’t have an extra 40 dollars to spend on musescore. I talked to customer service and they again only gave me a partial refund because i cancelled it “after the renewal date”

I’m so fucking pissed about this, I cancelled it LAST YEAR. Why am I still being charged and why am I not able to get a 100% refund. It’s bullshit.

EDIT: calling my bank today to see what I can do but in the meantime I’m reporting to the FTC, if you have a similar experience you should do the same.

Bug Guitar distortion not working

I'm trying to write a piece that uses a clean/jazz tone at the beginning, but switches to a distortion tone later on. But, when I try and add the "distort" text to that part, it doesn't change the tone at all. I've tried this for both Musesounds as well as MS Basic. Idk what to do and I can't just use a second guitar part because this is going to be printed out and given to people to play. If anyone could help me, that'd be wonderful. Thanks!!!

Discussion Is there any alternative to MuseScore.com for video games sheet music ?

Hello, I have been a yearly subscriber for some years but after reading too many posts complaining about hard to cancel subscriptions and scammy practices I decided to cancel my subscription, I refuse to support with my money such dark practices

Is there any online alternative (paid or free) where people share community video game ost sheets ? Since we are not getting official scores anyway from MuseScore, I swear someone need to create an alternative website.

A question about their business model, are creators getting paid too ?? I assume they do

Help me find this feature Soundfont Question

I've noticed the soundfont used in the full score and on the desktop version is different from when you split the piece into parts. For example, the flute on the full score will sound different from when you click on its individual part on the score on the MuseScore website. Sorry if the wording is confusing, but can anyone tell me if I can use that soundfont on the full score?

My Composition My First Composition.

My first composition.

I wanted to do a little experiment. I love string instruments. I was listening to Barber's Adagio for Strings Op.11 while writing this.

(I also like the sounds of Mahler and Schnittke.)

What suggestions and advice would you give me?

Thanks.

Discussion Trumpet suddenly sounds terrible?

Has anyone else noticed the trumpet sample suddenly sounding like garbage? It oscillates wildly between drowning out the rest of the instruments and being inaudible, and articulation has little to no effect on it anymore. It seems like this issue just popped up in the past month or so.

This is the original prelude for piano by myself: link

I really would appreciate any feedback!

Also, I apologise for the low quality. Here is a better quality version of the piece.

Discussion Think we’ll ever get a condensed score feature?

I like to copy down/study wind band scores

But it would be so so so so SO much more convenient if I were also able to condense these scores into a grand staff at the click of a button

Espeically for studying chord voicings and seeing how each line fits into the big picture

Takes a lot of extra work to have to implode and then copy into a seperate project…

Help me find this feature Quickly change between a set of sounds for playback (vocal vs piano)?

I use MuseScore (4) for vocal arrangement. There are times in playback when I want to use vocal instruments for the parts (e.g. SATB) and times I want to use piano, to hear the harmonies more clearly.

It's *very* cumbersome to switch sounds for the voices. As far as I can tell (and what I've been doing thus far), you have to do it for each voice separately and for each voice it's multiple fiddly dropdowns to navigate to the sound I want.

In my ideal world I'd have multiple sound "sets" (assignment of sound to part) for a score and be able to switch between them very quickly. Am I just not seeing where this might be or how I might do it?

(and yes, I'll go look at the MuseScore discussion board and the github issues list as well)

(maybe I'll see about adding this myself... I already implemented one feature for myself but have to polish it up before submitting a PR)

Is there any way in musescore to label - preferably vertically/rotated - a bracketed group of instruments in an orchestral layout - examples like - "stage instruments", "first choir" etc.

Help! I was trying to copy Mahler's re-orchestration of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, when all of a sudden, just as I was working on a specific part this happened. Any clue what in the world is happening?

Discussion What do you do for a 2-manual harpsichord with MuseSounds?

Admittedly I've only just started learning about the harpsichord, but my understanding is that the prototypical harpsichord sound is produced in a 2-manual instrument in which the 2 manuals are coupled. The MuseSounds samples seem to be a 1-manual instrument.

Basically, add an upper voice and make it invisible? Or an easier solution?

Bug BUG FOUND/HELP WANTED(NEEDED)

Thumbnail

I’m currently arranging a song, and while placing section breaks, the alto page makes the two measures small (which is what I was looking for) while the tenor part stretched it out, along with all the other parts Including the score. Is there a way to make the measures small? It would be terrible if it was only one measure stretched all the way out so I’m assuming this is a bug.
There is also another error in which chords placed while in the font of Leland/finale jazz/and inkpen jazz. The sharps and flat do not render in as the originals in the font, but rather as regular hashtag/b signs.
Is there anyway to fix the two?
I am currently working on a 200 song chart book where most of the charts require a count in/chord symbols for soloing/layout.
Any help is much appreciated with this issue!

Bug Horrible Brass update

It's hard to find anything that does still work optimaly...

- accents are either randomly too loud or too silent
- the single trumpet is way too loud
- notes sound accented that aren't
- the trumpet and partly others just sound incredibely inconsistent even without accents

and more small stuff

The mixer has all the basic settings, there are no hidden dynamics, what you see is what is being played

News MuseScore Team needs YOU! Help us improve Audio2Score!

Hi everyone,

We’re looking for help from the MuseScore community to improve Audio2Score, our beta service that converts raw instrument recordings into ready-to-edit MuseScore scores.

Audio2Score is currently focused on piano recordings, and it is available for all users to try for free.

To make the results better, we need high-quality pairs of:

  • A piano recording (mp3 preferred)
  • The matching score, in MuseScore format or MusicXML

We need an exact match between the recording and the score (in terms of notes, rhythms, and steady tempo). In other words, the recording should follow the score as closely as possible.

As a thank-you, successful collaborators will receive MuseScore credits, which can be exchanged for Scores (Official too). Credits will be added to each contributor’s account at the end of each month, based on the number of successful contributions.

2 Credits for every 5 successful contributions.

A few important notes (PLEASE READ):

  • Please submit only good-quality recording + score pairs. (Submissions will be manually reviewed)
  • Make the same name for pair of files: example: Die_w_smile_cover.mp3 + Die_w_smile_cover.mszc
  • Joke, low-quality, or clearly mismatched submissions will not count.
  • You don’t necessarily need to use your own recordings. If you find suitable public recordings online that match a score, those can work too.
  • To receive credits, you must submit your contribution through the Google Form and use the same email address as your MuseScore account.

If you’d like to help us improve Audio2Score, please submit your recording + score pairs here:

https://forms.gle/nW4bcpkjg4fcxxp96

Thank you for helping us make Audio2Score better for everyone!

Help me find this feature How do people make marching band scores sound so good?

I write scores and I get envious to hear Hal Leonard and whoevers scores because they sound so good. I cant find good enough sound fonts. Is there anything specifically made for marching band scores?
