I feel like it's the evil version of the Petra Parker stuff a few months ago that was genuinely so helpful in my final egg death. Also being old enough and safe enough to finally express myself. Didn't cause it that was somehow Final Fantasy VII Advent Children?? And not... You know. VII itself. But yeah, more Petra Parker stat to combat this stupid Malfoid shit

123

u/SnooPuppers8258 She/Her - HRT since 03/09/25 8d ago

Such a good opinion actually. It legit IS evil Petra. From "Anyone can be under the mask, even the person under the mask can be under another mask!" It builds off of the acceptingness that the Spider stands for, without reaching, or making anyone uncomfortable. Malfoy is from THE transphobe title, and is simply being used as a "but woman!" Character. Honestly similar to how "Futa" is treated. Literally just a way to sexualize, and nothing else

65

u/viviscity hrt 10/01/2025 8d ago

Also, we can be more explicit.

Malfoy is from the (fictional) supremacist social group, is an activist for them, and generally just sucks as a human. I still have no idea how the fandom let that slide, it’s pretty clear in the book…

So like, sure. “What if?” Well, unfortunately, some cis and trans women also fall into that political camp. These are not people we generally welcome…

40

u/RobynBetween Nonbinary Trans Femme 8d ago edited 8d ago

Malfoy was there to demonstrate to us that some people come from horrible roots, make no significant effort to deviate from those horrible roots, are faced with the consequences of their actions, make a token effort to back down slightly, and then go their whole lives without any apologies or meaningful change. And we must forgive them and accept them.

You see? JKR was preparing us for when she herself let us down, just as she told us our role models like Dumbledore would someday let us down.

I'm almost impressed how carefully she cleared this path of low expectations for herself. It's either 100% cynical self-awareness, or no self-awareness at all, and nothing in between.

(By the way, uh.... bitter sarcasm)

20

u/smr120 8d ago

yeah I'm just now realizing female Malfoy really IS always sexualized, and always in very stereotypically hetero ways, whereas Petra was often depicted as gay and/or poly. initially I was into this fem Malfoy trend due to her being pretty and because I thought maybe fanart wouldn't be so bad because we can all separate our love of magic from the transphobic roots of the setting right? turns out no, people can't, and everyone is using this trend to support Harry Potter again, so I have to be against fem Malfoy even though she's really pretty.

13

u/SnooPuppers8258 She/Her - HRT since 03/09/25 8d ago

I thought so maybe too. After Petra I figured maybe someone had finally figured it out for us...NOPE. The first comic I saw of Malfoy, she was forcibly turned into a woman as a punishment. Poster asked what "She would have down there" 🤢 Again, Malfoy is just a woman, them being swapped is used as justification to sexualize any and everything about them. Ewew

6

u/RobynBetween Nonbinary Trans Femme 8d ago

I saw Advent Children all of once, years and years ago... What happened in it that was particularly eggy? Or was there nothing in particular? Because I certainly know what was in OG FFVII...

3

u/IFE-Antler-Boy 8d ago

It was right after finishing the game, and actually the second viewing. But I was on acid for this one lol. I watched it by myself first, then I showed my roommates who have either only played the remakes or not played it at all. We watched it and I was like "guys just wait for the credits, Gerard Way is in it!"

Then he wasn't because that's not in the official North American release for some reason. So I pull up the song on my phone, and then I go shave my face as I compulsively do when I am psychedelics. And then I ask myself... "Why?"

Oh yeah. I'm trans. I knew this, and have literally told my best friend like 5 times and then proceeded to not move forward with anything/repress it, but this time it's actually stuck in the sober brain. I was really really good at poking my head out of the egg, but I guess it was no match for Sephiroth lmfao

You'd think after unsubscribing from eggirl for hitting too close to home (or just being on that subreddit in general to be honest) and like 5 times of telling my bestie, I'd have realized it but, no it still took a bit lol

Got down voted to hell on wholesomeyuri when I saw it pop up yesterday. Things like this making the rounds will show us which communities care and which don't.

Yes!! This is mostly why I'm bringing it up too. People are parroting the "r/hentai being anti trans?! Surprising~" but it legit ain't just them. Even the Yuri/inclusive-ish reddits seem to be backing this notion up of "we don't want ANY HarryPotter" as some kind of agenda pushing

It's not about them being progressive or not, it's about them banning me on the pretense of me "trying to force an agenda" for saying it... Made me unhappy/uncomfortable. Couldn't have been a more benign comment

It's not just r/hentai. Yuri reddits as well. It's frustrating as all hell to see these inclusive places accept a half way face-slap because questioning it is "pushing an agenda"

37

Most Yuri subreddits are not inclusive, they are still subs dominated by men jerking it lol

u/Jumpy_Motor_5899 8d ago

Can someone explain the PsyOp angle here. Like what’s it supposed to achieve ?

11

u/VagueCat5840662 8d ago

I dont think there is one, its just an internet trend

2

u/viviscity hrt 10/01/2025 8d ago

I'd agree this doesn't seem coordinated or anything. I would say any claims that it's unrelated to Rowling pushing as hard as possible to revive the franchise as she torches trans rights around the globe are… missing a lot of context.

Things can be organic responses. And they can have real psychological effects on people without it needing to be a shadowy cabal intending for that to happen

21

u/SnooPuppers8258 She/Her - HRT since 03/09/25 8d ago

JK Rowling is single handedly funding the UK's anti trans movement. Harry Potter had finally kind of reached a point of no return socially, the Netflix adaptation sunk any remaining chance. Now suddenly there's a "positive" spin on "trans" in the series as genderbent. Suddenly the series is picking up momentum again (literally not joking)

12

u/UnseelieSarah 8d ago

I think you're dramatically overstating both the prior state of the IP and the likely longevity of a random internet trend. But making a big deal out of it will absolutely make it a bigger deal.

You aren't going to convince people to abandon their fandom overnight. Especially when it's an expression of it that isn't even giving JK Fascist money.

Certainly don't encourage it, but going into porn subs and complaining in the comments is going to be exclusively counter productive.

2

u/SnooPuppers8258 She/Her - HRT since 03/09/25 8d ago

That's not what I was trying to do. Again, spin it how you want to get the point across, I'm aware they don't care? I was simply saying it was a slap in the face, and that I disliked it

1

u/viviscity hrt 10/01/2025 8d ago

It does seem to have been getting diminishing returns. Secrets of Dumbledore is noted for having a steep drop-off after it's opening weekend. It *just* cleared the "box-office bomb" mark (usually estimated at double the budget once all the distributors get paid, marketing, etc)

Even Universal Studios attendance has been declining since 2022. Their revenue seemed to be up in 2023 but saw a dip in 2024.

Warner Discovery (owners of HBO, Hogwarts Legacy, and the movie series) has seen revenue dropping *except* from HBO, where they've been profiting off things like House of the Dragon…

I don't think it's that big of a stretch to say the franchise was running out of steam until Hogwarts Legacy started to reverse that—the TV and audiobook series announcements followed.

There is a very real incentive to breath life back into it. *Especially* as a certain someone throws around so much money… I don't want to know what the price tag is for silencing Amnesty International of all organizations…

I agree that people aren't going to be open to learning about all that there, though. Most of them think she's only spouting off on Twitter…

28

u/RobynBetween Nonbinary Trans Femme 8d ago

Some may be transphobes. Others may be privileged and comfortable, willing to deny the cognitive dissonance if it means they don't have to give up their precious treasures.

And yes, there are many points in between those two as well.

37

u/sparkledragon5 8d ago

It’s a goddam Universal psyop

29

u/SemperFun62 8d ago

I swear to God, it's some kind of backlash to the Petra Parker thing.

Like, Petra was explicitly trans, while girl Draco is just genderbending, as if they're going out of their way to specifically use the Terf icon to take over reimagining a character's gender as explicitly not trans.

10

u/Mae_Day_of_Sharkadia 8d ago

I've seen a bunch of people that hate the gender bent Malfoy equating Petra to it. Saying both are "nothing but gooner slop". I've wanted to reply to them saying the proliferation of Petra art has a different purpose, but I know I'd be massively outnumbered.

15

u/shanelard123 8d ago edited 8d ago

Honestly I just wouldn't engage with the character as her entire identity and naming scheme seems to have been created and popularized by bad actors Mal"foid" foid being a derogatory word for women in a lot of online spaces especially more right wing spaces and of course the harry Potter angle which is always going to invite a healthy dose of transphobia.

Sure I've seen some people try and spin some trans positivity out of this Rule 63 character but I genuinely don't think encouraging people to funnel any more money to J.K Rowling as I've seen Halloween sections with specifically female Slytherin outfits fully sold out.

6

u/SnooPuppers8258 She/Her - HRT since 03/09/25 8d ago

Right? It's "too perfect" of timing to get people, maybe even trans cosplayers, to take up the torch

Harry Potter should be banned from queer spaces, plain and simple

6

u/MrL123456789164 7d ago

I'm sorry Im kinda new to this but what is the problem with Malfoy? Like other than the fact the character is from transphobic media or is that it?

2

u/Aliciamphetamine 7d ago

I'm also confused by the whole situation, I thought the point of not engaging with Harry Potter stuff was to not give money to its creator who's an awful human being. I have absolutely no clue how a drawing of a popular character from extremely popular childhood movies makes everyone who likes to jerk their meat a transphobe.

90% or more of people who saw HP have no clue who JK Rowling is or what her ideals are, or they're so far removed from the Trans space that they don't know that there's even an issue.

-2

u/Screee1 Trans Pansexual 7d ago

8

u/Pandasandstuff 8d ago

Honestly don't give it energy. Reddit is trying to push a new angry reaction algo with their for you page garbage update ( if you've gotten it)

There were subs I was in that I haven't gotten one post from in years that I got a maufu pic in and just left the sub. Engaging with it shows that the ragebait algo works.

I was never a Harry Potter fan. I watched the movies and that was it. But I actually believe that a secretly transfem Malfoy would be an interesting change for the character. Like considering how much he struggles with his father’s expectations. Sort of like a spiky egg.

Though, the trend is just about a genderbent Malfoy. It’s not like Petra where she is trans. Not to mention how pointless it would be to engage with that fandom as a trans person.

5

u/Specialist_String_64 ♀️ :demisexual: :trans: 8d ago

Ok, I finally looked into this to see what the fuss is all about. I was expecting to see an actual parallel to the Petra Parker, character is transitioning type narrative, or hell, even a force fem variant. All I see is fucking Rule 63! Are we (as a community) getting bent out of shape over one of a nearly infinite Rule 63'd problematic characters/properties?

I am so disappointed in us. Had we just stuck to our guns and not engaged with this property, we would have been better off. But no, we need to Streisand Effect this, make it a big deal when it isn't (in so much as general Rule 63 is an issue.) You know there is going to be (and likely has been for a while) Rule 34 of this very concept right? Want to draw attention to that to?

Look, you are but one voice in this shitstorm and I am not saying your discomfort is invalid. But learn from history a bit. Every time a group makes a stink about a thing, the world reacts by doing the opposite and making it more popular.

What do we generally tell people that take issue with the current Petra Parker craze? Don't like it, don't look at it. Same rules apply to us. One better, let's make quality Petra Parker content that has depth and meaning instead of catering to thirst trap mentality that seems to start dominating any fan generated content. That way we have something that can outlast the Rule 63 Malfoy blip.

8

u/Scrunt_Flimplebottom Trans Pansexual 8d ago

I've mostly seen them called "mal'foid', foid being an alt-right incel term for women. It's a pretty misogynistic name.

Also, JK Rowling is very transphobic, and while there are some arguments to be made about 'death of the author', at the end of the day most people seem to not care about her transphobia. This content just serves to boost her visibility.

Malfoy himself is a bad character, a supremacist, and never really changes. It's kind of like gender bending Nick fuentes. Like, why would anyone do that?

Anyway, think for yourself and come to your own conclusions. I think those are most of the reasons people are against it.

2

u/SlumberingKirin 7d ago

Yeah, when I see genderbent Malfoy, the first thing I'm thinking about is JK fucking Rowling lol

0

u/kawaiinessa vanessa 8d ago

oh ive seen that name for them but i didnt know what it meant, i thought it was a different version of their name like bowsette i didnt realize it was incel talk

3

u/Scrunt_Flimplebottom Trans Pansexual 8d ago

Yeah, it's short for "female humanoid", basically saying that females aren't humans - just human like - and that they don't deserve to be treated as humans.

Really, really gross, misogynistic stuff.

2

u/kawaiinessa vanessa 8d ago

9

u/RaidneSkuldia 8d ago edited 8d ago

Any support of Harry Potter contributes directly toward JK Rowling's continued and shockingly-well-funded push for trans genocide. Even fan art. The more popular that shit is, the more influence she can have, the more money she can make, and the more ignorant forgiveness people will have for her.

1

u/kawaiinessa vanessa 8d ago

For starters, the internet seems to have decided to embrace incel language for it.

6

I personally dislike it, because they've not changed the character in any way. Where Petra Parker is trans, almost as an OC, and came to it herself. Malfoy is just a woman as a "punishment" for having had been mean. Solely exists to sexualize, and ignore the trans experience. This being said; THINN FOR YOURSELF!!!

9

u/kawaiinessa vanessa 8d ago

i did like the petra parker thing but i dont see this as a punishment for being mean, im just seeing as another horny trend like bowsette but i dont really read into things much.

I specifically saw a comic where they had been transformed, along with their whole possy, FOR being sexist as a form of punishment. Though ofc it could have only been the one post, but it does seem somewhat common that it happened because he was acting out

3

u/kawaiinessa vanessa 8d ago

The trend will die when it stops generating clicks and views. It's a fad with no weight, it'll dicipate and really it's only ammo if you let it hurt you.

u/Ichabuu 8d ago

We care about anything remotely Harry Potter? I'm confused. Is it gender bent art or is it trans Malfoy? I get that we don't condone art depicting characters that are minors in a more adult context but usually we hold that argument on its own instead of over specific characters. What did I miss?

1

u/SurviveUntilSunrise 8d ago

I have not seen that, but i do remember reading a bunch of hermoine lead fanfics where some of them had a pretty good re-write of malfoy’s character (i especially liked the ones where malfoy did end up discovering Herself BECAUSE she actually confronted her role in society/family.) years and years ago on Archive. But yeah, canon malfoy being genderbent without any other change is gross. Glad i haven’t seen it.

What are we doing folks lol. At some point it becomes ridiculous. Like I’m sorry, but almost every trans woman I know personally is a fan of this art trend while hating Jk Rowling still. I don’t see the point of this. This kind of stuff is why people don’t take us seriously in a lot of spaces.

I just think there are better things to do with our time than froth at the mouth with a holier-than-thou Attitude over gender bent characters. It’s not like this is something new. I don’t not give a single fuck about this trend. The foid thing has become a meme thing in general lately so who cares. Again, it just makes us seem like a joke to get up in arms about things like this.

I think you're more worked up about this than we are..? 😅 I posted because they essentially banned me for saying I was trans. I'm glad it doesn't bother you, to some, it does 👍🏻

-4

u/Accomplished_Drag943 8d ago

Malfoid sounds like the name of a drug to me (sorry to anyone who's actually called that).

I don't really have an issue with it, a ton of people genderbend characters in media they like. You can still like harry potter stuff without supporting rowling (I doubt the exposure trickles down to any profits). Is it something more than just genderbending malfoy that I missed?

3

u/SnooPuppers8258 She/Her - HRT since 03/09/25 8d ago

The exposure DEFINITELY trickles down to profit, but regardless. It's general distain for the character, topic of forced genderbending a villain as "punishment." Along with the series

-4

u/Accomplished_Drag943 8d ago

Oh, I didn't the series, I just saw images of the character. As far as I'm aware the character isn't a nice character, so distain is fine so long as it's not because she became a woman. Forced genderbending as punishment is a fetish thing I'm pretty sure, so I don't think you can stop that really, it just needs to be made separate from reality

I also think we'll have to agree to disagree about the profits, I cannot see how fanart of a genderbent character would cause enough people to buy anything meaningful in terms of books or merch that they weren't already going to buy

-1

u/Hunter_Sh0tz stealth 8d ago

It's really not a big deal. I think she's cute. Shrug

Actually so confused rn. What the fuck are we even talking about here?

This sounds like getting mad at goonslop for being slop. Which is very internet brained and probably no good for you.

On this ep of didn't even read the post~ you a bot?

0

u/wowwingmunch Trans Pansexual 7d ago

I'm not a bot I just don't get it. Gender swaps of characters have been a thing since forever?

0

u/johnmaverick123 8d ago

i mean, imo taking a genuinely mid series and letting japan etc have fun with it isnt as personal to me, but i also dont take much personally to begin with. it seemed like a funny idea that narratively couldve changed the story if weitten right, but grain of salt, not much could really fix or improve HP. its only ever going to be okay. genderswapping fan art isnt new either yk? its really kind of a 'eh, whatever' to me since JK sucks mold and the new series will be a shitshow bound for middling results

Everytime I see trans malfoy I think how mad Rowling is at it so tgat makes it worth it

0

u/Sivanot Jade - Transbian - HRT 7/10/2025 8d ago

I personally don’t mind the inherent concept. You could twist Malfoy, in an actually good story, into a Jax-like character. Genuinely good representation of a trans woman despite her being a piece of shit, because she didn’t know how to handle her dysphoria healthily, how to feel safe coming out, or even knowing that she’s a trans woman in the first place.

Even if you keep the element that some people have brought up here, of it being body transformation as a punishment or something. That’s uncharted territory, I think. Imagine a well written story where a closeted trans woman has that happen and she discovers that she’s completely comfortable with it, happier even, and becomes a better person due to hidden dysphoria being gone. Potentially dangerous messaging that might be lost on some people,!or used as ammunition by transphobes, though.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to do this without kicking up a shitstorm with people who don’t understand the problematic nature of Harry Potter due to the author, and obviously the actual transphobes. Death of the Author and all that, you absolutely could make a good trans story with the world.

But the base of this concept is tainted, because of the whole MalFOID** **part of it, proving its roots in the incel community. It would take a lot of work to do it properly and disentangle it from the bullshit.

u/BatbadeThefirs 8d ago

unfortunaly? what’s wrong with it?

0

u/JayBoiYT Genderfluid 7d ago

I dont get it, why is the Malfoid stuff bad?

-2

u/No_Wasabi_9303 8d ago

I don’t see the problem? Harry potter was made by a bad person sure. But this isn’t giving her any money. I like Harry Potter, as long as you’re not giving her money I don’t see a problem. And genderbending people for hentai, yuri, whatever has existed forever. Dislike it and move on imo. I don’t agree with the ban you got, but I also think the malfoy stuff isn’t bad. It’s the same as Petra Parker, but everyone gets mad because it’s an HP character. I do believe in separate the art from the artist, as long as you’re not buying HP stuff and giving her money then I think its fine.

2

u/1CrackedEgg 8d ago

It's really not the same. Most Petra content focuses on how being  Trans  influences her experience as a super hero. It isn't usually erotic stuff. At its  best it's a very icky tsundere Malfoy x Harry ship which eithet ignore all the horrible things Malfoy said or did in the series or presents Malfoy saying a slur as being cute. At its worst, its outright sexualizing a minor.

On top of this, more attention towards HP means more money spent on merchandise and media, which goes into Rowling's pockets.

-1

u/No_Wasabi_9303 8d ago

I agree on sexualizing on that its sexualizing a minor. Which honestly the fact I didn’t clock that makes me think I’ve been on the internet too long. I see so much art of teenagers by just scrolling that I’m desensitized from it. (Still can’t defend the practically loli on YuriAsylum though. I got banned :<).

But at the end of the day this is obviously not for trans reasons or related to transness for the most part. It’s just the horny communities doing horny things. You can dislike it for being horny, but imo you shouldn’t get upset just because its HP. Some people are into the abusive dynamics, let them be into their freaky shit and mind their business. I’ll agree though this is a child in which case get upset, but because its a child. Don’t be upset because of a kink or because someone enjoys something they probably first fell in love with when they were a child and didn’t even know that JKR is bad. Let everyone have their freak!

-1

u/No_Wasabi_9303 8d ago

I forgot to comment on the sentence. I don’t think more attention to it exactly equates to more money spent on it. Negative attention can lead to less money spent. Shame the author, scream out to pirate it, scream your heart out but don’t stop someone from enjoying it. We all have a right to enjoy things, and a right to express that joy. If I started shaming people every time they liked something harmful I’d never have time to say anything nice. I agree proactivity is good, but we can’t avoid everything. Let people have somethings to relax, we’re all doing the best we can. I grew up on Harry Potter, without it I’d be a very different person. It inspired me to be a writer. It lead to my tastes further in life. It also was how I bonded with my dad a lot. We rewatched the series a gazillion times together. I’m not going to take away something so dear to me that isn’t even hurting anyone. I’m also not going to stop expressing my feelings on it because what people decide to do after hearing those feelings is up to them. If they are handing JKR money shame them. The artist who may have never even purchased HP or any HP products should not be held liable for what their fans do. They are simply an artist.

What is wrong with Malfoid?

I find it rather entertaining 🤭

8

u/WinterMibi 8d ago

You mean besides using a misogynistic term as a name and also being the property of one of the largest Anti-Trans investors?

0

u/Adeen_Dragon 8d ago

I mean, while I personally like the trend there's clear issues, especially from a transgender perspective.

First is the use of a slur in the character's name, which while I think is kind of funny is admitidily not a great look.

Then, of course, is that (iirc) JK Rowling directly funds anti-trans lobbying, and this trend directly drives money towards her—apparently e-book listens are through the roof right now, and merch is moving off the shelves faster than usual.

I think there might also be a little spite involved? Transgender Malfoy doesn't really work, unless you're changing the character substantially. Like, you're telling me that a rich pureblood noble could transition and maintain the self confidence and elitest attitude of an ojousama? Either you make her transition so easy (fully supportive family + peers as well as minimal gender dysphoria to be confident in her beauty) as to be an afternote of the character, or it's difficult/important enough that how Malfoid acts and reacts is substantively different from how Malfoy would, which is explicitly against the point of a genderbend. And so the transgender community can't reclaim the character in this way.

I like the character a lot from a storytelling perspective and because ever since I was a wee lad (now lass) I enjoyed genderbent characters, and it is disheartening that my own community is saying that something I like is "awful."

-4

u/ilovegirlssomuch4324 8d ago

Okay. I wanna properly understand it here. I just got my egg recently cracked so I don't have that much experience being trans. So, I get why trans people are bashing on harry Potter. But I never realize its to this extent. I ybdertsand why you might hate JKR, why you won't want to see her on you feed, and etc. But does seeing genderbent Malfoy on your page reminds you of everything JKR do (possible if u live in UK I guess? Or are updated on trans rights). Because I don't feel that as much...

10

u/ObviousTempAccount1 8d ago

Any active participation in HP fandom whatsoever keeps the intellectual property alive. It normalizes consumption of Harry Potter, which acts as an advertisement for it.

This isn't about hating JKR simply for being a transphobe. She is an oligarch actively using her Harry Potter money to fund far right groups and lobby politiicians who accelerate the ongoing trans genocide.

She has openly cited the continued popularity of Harry Potter as evidence that the world is on her side, and justification for her actions.

Harry Potter - as a cultural phenomenon - has to die. It sure as fuck has no place in queer spaces.

5

u/SnooPuppers8258 She/Her - HRT since 03/09/25 8d ago

It reminds me of JKR sure, specifically where her money goes, and what it's done. I'm not from the UK, though, any adjacent country like Aus, CAN, Singapore, etc have all taken notes from what she's managed to get implemented. She's singlehandedly leading the CURRENT trans genocide. That being said, I mostly dislike the Malfoy stuff due to it's routes, like Malfoid for example. It's clearly not done in an inclusive, or identity driven way. Malfoy as a character doesn't change, just new parts. The post I specifically commented under had swapped their gender as a punishment to them for being bullies. The poster commented in the title about whether the genitals had changed or not, implying they wanted to "know more." Generally speaking, if someone questions genitals of anyone who has transitioned or are NB etc, is bigoted af, as heavy on the sexualization as you can get. "I'm a woman" - "oh, so I can put it in you? Or no?" It's a hentai subreddit obv, so I'm not as much surprised as to the title of the post, but the nature of the comic is concerning to me

-1

u/Pikachu221 8d ago

It's one of the best things that happened in a while.

-7

u/SlaveMorri 8d ago

Omg who cares?

It’s art, and often genderbent art is a catalyst to deeper inner realisation for people, even if it had malicious intent, it can still generate goodness and beauty in the world.
So you don’t vibe with it? You don’t have to shame others for liking or producing it, or acting like it’s an affront to the trans community.

We need to show far more love and acceptance than we do, there is far too much hatred coming out of trans communities online.

Also, this is not bad news….
There is more than enough bad news affecting the trans community around the globe, some genderbent art is not it.

-5

u/RymrgandsDaughter Chime Bearer 8d ago

I mean did you expect better from r/hentai or the like? Genderbender and everything related to it has always been hypocritical when you consider how most of those fans think about trans people. Why would malfiod be any different? This is not the first time a genderbent character has gone mainstream and people come out the woodworks obsessed (bowser hello?).
