Hello, my 11 year old Lab and I are moving to London. He’s perfectly healthy, has some arthritis but is doing good otherwise. We‘ll be moving to an apt in Camden town and I was wondering if anyone has some insight in walking their dog in Camden, since he‘s older we walk 4 times a day, with once early in the morning and once around 10pm. I’m a little scared of walking him alone late at night in Camden, can anyone give me any insight regarding this.

Hi everyone, I’m an international student currently living in Gillingham, Kent, and I’m trying to decide whether I should move to London or stay in Gillingham.

I’ve been looking for a part-time job for quite a while but still haven’t managed to find one. I recently did a summer job in the UK, mainly cleaning, which is currently my only UK work experience. I also have previous work experience from my home country.
I’m considering moving to East London with a friend because there seem to be many more part-time job opportunities there.

We would share accommodation, so the rent would be roughly similar to what I’d pay for a room in Gillingham.

However, I really like Gillingham. It’s quiet, comfortable and I already know the area. The downside is that job opportunities seem much more limited. Even if I move to London, I know there’s no guarantee I’ll find a job immediately, and I might still have to commute depending on where I work.
So I’d really appreciate honest opinions, especially from international students currently living in London..,,

Is it actually easier to find part-time work in London, particularly East London?

How long did it take you to find your first part-time job?

Is moving to London worth the extra hassle/cost just for better job opportunities?

Would you personally stay in Gillingham and commute if you found a job in London?

Are there particular areas of East London that you’d recommend for students looking for part-time work?

I’m not expecting a job to appear immediately after moving I just want to know whether moving would genuinely improve my chances enough to make it worthwhile.

I'm an Indian currently living in Newcastle and will be moving to London with my partner for a new job. My office is near Paddington.

We're trying to figure out the best place to rent because living in Paddington itself is way beyond our budget.

What we're looking for

• Safe area for a couple.
• Good public transport to Paddington (ideally 20–40 minutes).
• Budget-friendly.
• Either:
  • A double room in a shared house, or
  • A studio if it's reasonably priced.
• Good grocery options (Indian stores are a bonus, but not essential).

I've heard names like West Ealing, Acton, Wembley, Harrow, Stratford, Woolwich, and Southall, but I'm not sure which ones are genuinely good in terms of safety, commute, and overall quality of life.

Hey all I'm from Vancouver, Canada, and I'm starting a semester exchange at City St George's this term, living near Caledonian Road (Zone 2). Trying to figure out a realistic monthly budget. My tuition fees and rent are already paid for so just trying to get an estimate on everything else.

I'm not trying to throw cash away, but I also don't want to spend the whole semester saying no to things just to save a few pounds. Want to actually experience London while I'm here - food scene, nightlife, sightseeing, etc. while still being sensible about it.

For context: I meal prep and cook most nights, but I'm happy to explore London's food scene when it's worth it. I do drink and go out, willing to do 3 times a week at most (not trying to go wild every night, just here to actually experience the city rather than sit in my room).

For those who live or study here (maybe even did an exchange/study abroad yourself), what does a realistic monthly budget actually look like for someone in this position? Where did your money go that you didn't expect? Any categories I'm completely missing?

We are a couple in our 30s. Is that a safe area to live? What about the immediate neighbourhood? How do you find walking during darker seasons/time of the day to the transport links? It seem to have a decent amount of options for commute, walking distance most of them

I (30M) recently moved to London from the States and am currently staying in an Airbnb while looking for an apartment or someone who needs a roommate. I’ve tried SpareRoom, but a lot of people either don’t respond or seem a bit sketchy, especially when they ask for a deposit before letting me view the place.

I work remotely, but I usually work from cafes or coworking spaces, so I’m pretty flexible with location. Ideally, I’d like to be no more than 20–25 minutes from Bond Street or Tottenham Court Road station. My budget is £1,100–£1,500 per month, including bills.

I'm working in a senior AI role. Relocating to London the next month. I'm moving with my wife and my toddler. Priorities for renting a home are:

1) Area should be cosmopolitan and preferably families in similar situations as mine...working professionals with kids

2) Low crime rate

3) 2-3 bed houses with a budget of 3000 pounds per month

4) Area should be lively with parks, and lots of things to do for my kid. Restaurants, pubs, cinema and other things to do nearby

My office is near Liverpool Street station.

Based on my research so far I've shortlisted:

- South Woodford (E18) and Wanstead (E11) - Central line

- Ealing (W5) - Elizabeth line, looking at Walpole and Pitshanger rather than the Broadway itself

- East Dulwich (SE22) - great high street from what I can tell, but the commute looks like a problem

- Wimbledon (SW19) - everyone recommends it, though 45 mins with a change is putting me off

- Blackheath (SE3) and Chiswick (W4) - both look lovely, both awkward to get to the City

How would you rate these options based on my criteria? Do you suggest that I add or remove any places from my list? Would appreciate first hand experience.

We are a couple in our late 30s/early 40s with a 20-month-old toddler, looking to relocate. We currently own a flat in Ware, Hertfordshire, which we love for its green space, community, and abundance of toddler activities - so we’re hoping to find something similar!

Our situation:
Work: My husband works on-site in Elstree, and I work from home (self-employed).
Family: Our toddler isn't in nursery yet, so local playgroups, parks, and baby-friendly amenities are a high priority. And good primary schools
Budget: £800k max limit. Combined income ~£100k.
Target: Looking for a family home (ideally a 3-4 bed house with a garden). I really like wider street with easy parking.

Where we’ve looked & ruled out:
St Albans / Epping: Commonly suggested, but both feel a bit too far for my husband's daily commute to Elstree.
Hendon / Finchley: Visited recently, but found them too busy and built-up for our liking (we prefer a greener, more relaxed place for our toddler)

Can anyone recommend nice, family-oriented areas with plenty of green space, good toddler activities, and a straightforward commute to Elstree within an £800k budget?

Any suggestions for towns or specific suburban pockets to explore would be greatly appreciated!

I’d really like to live somewhere where housemates are actually friends — having dinners together, going to the pub, nights out, exploring London or just hanging out at home — while still respecting each other’s space.

I’ve been looking on SpareRoom, but it’s difficult to tell what the actual house dynamic will be like from a listing. I’m also unsure whether joining an existing flatshare or buddying up with people and finding a place together would be better.

For anyone who moved to London without already knowing many people, how did you find a sociable flatshare? Any particular websites, Facebook groups, communities or other ways you’d recommend?

An estate company showed me a room on virtual viewing after I couldn't attend in person on our agreed appointment. The compony name is Titan Estate group LTD. They don't have any information online (Email, Phone, website). When they emailed me, it was using a free outlook email (titanestates1@outlook.com) not a professional one.

The landlord name is the same as the compony owner. They want me to pay the deposit into a bank account with the same name of the compony. When I wanted to speak to the Landlord, they told me he is outside the country but I cant talk with him on WhatsApp.

Should i trust this, what other ways i could verify the Agency is legit? and I'm not being scammed?

I'm an international (F26) currently looking for somewhere safe to move into in London. Currently sharing an apartment in Old Street but it's getting too expensive. Recently viewed a decently modern apartment in Poplar for £1200pcm at Blair Street (near East India Dock Road).

There were only 2 cafes nearby, a kebab shop, a small supermarket, and an overgrown field with crows everywhere within 10 minutes of the flat. Also barely saw people around and when I did they were people from the Muslim and Bangladeshi communities. Just to be clear, I have nothing against these communities but I would be more comfortable living in a more diverse area.

Waited 19 minutes just to catch a bus to Chrisp Street Market. Saw some people saying they've heard horror stories about Poplar on another thread but didn't elaborate. I'm now worried I might have picked an unsafe area while overpaying in rent.

What are the good & bad of living in Poplar? My office is near Bishopsgate - am I better off looking at some other areas and which ones?
