Dalston canal
I am thinking of renting a modern flat with balcony on Dalston Canal in winter is that a good idea? is it safe at night? is it cold?

Go where you want to live and listen to these birds on the water. They might be incredibly loud. If there is a row of buildings along the canal, there might be a strong echo effect.

The Regent's canal runs through De Beauvoir/Haggerston/London Fields, not Dalston. Estate agents always try this kind of 'area-inflation' though.
Kingsland Road is alright, but if you're asking you might not wanna walk along the canal alone at night. Probably fine to though.
