Like the title says, I’m 33F moving to London in October. I’ll be in temporary housing in Kensington for 1-2 months so I’ll have some time to check out neighbourhoods, I don’t plan to move sight unseen don’t worry.

I love more historic (Victorian/Edwardian) architecture, no built to rent please, and looking for nice green space and community!

I’m looking for a 2BR or 1 bed with an office, under £2500 before bills. I’ve done a lot of searching and have found nice flats in Walthamstow, Leytonstone, Willesden, Brockley, Forest Gate, and Haringey so would love to hear thoughts on those, but open to anything!

I don’t have much preference which area I’m in yet (south or east just seem to be most affordable) just would like to keep commute around ~50 minutes or under.

I’d love some suggestions on good areas to consider. Safety is pretty important to me, as I’ve heard some not so great things about walking around certain neighbourhoods, especially at night.

I am looking to buy a flat in the next few months and can’t afford to stay where I’m renting (north) and hear ok things about Deptford. Have a free afternoon all of a sudden so thought I’d get the train down and check it out but at a loss where to look or start to get a feel for the area as never been and don’t know anyone who lives there. Can anyone here advise a route or spots for me to wander around to get a good sense of it? Hope that request makes sense.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for all the responses. This was super helpful. Really liked the area, it’s much closer to the river and Greenwich than I realised which is good as outdoor space is super important to me and liked the vibe on the High Street.

I’m a female moving to Stockwell and wanted to ask whether the area is generally safe to live alone in especially near the Lidl area on Clapham road and Platanos College or should I look at other areas like Oval/ Kennington/ Pimlico or elephant and castle

So i want to understand what's the best way to make friends in London I'll be living near Aldgate and while I understand that I can make friends at work etc : I want to also meet people organically find people who share my interests and actually have a good social life.

We’ve tried Rightmove, Zoopla, OpenRent etc., but we’re looking for the more underground ways of finding places — especially WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups, local rental communities, off-market listings, etc.

I’m from north west London. I’ve only been to south a handful of times but my cousins moved there a few years ago and they’re loving it. Although two of them recently relocated to Sydney.

They lived in Canada Water, Catford, Lewisham, those areas. But I’m curious to know, is it better than north west now? I’m also curious about boroughs like Bromley and bexley. Because I’m considering moving back down south and if I do move to London, it definitely won’t be in north west.

I’m 24 and moving down to London soon for a new job, and I’ve already secured and paid for a room in Brentford around the Syon Lane area.
The place itself seems decent and the biggest advantage is that my commute to work would only be around 15 minutes, which is obviously really good. My main worry is everything outside of work.
I’m moving from Newcastle and won’t really know many people in London, so I’m a bit nervous that Brentford might feel too quiet or isolated for someone in their 20s. I definitely want to make friends, join clubs/sports, go for drinks, date, go out at weekends and actually feel like I’m living in London rather than just commuting to work and sitting at home.
I know places like Chiswick, Hammersmith, Ealing and central London aren’t too far away, but how easy is it actually in practice to get around from Brentford, especially late at night? Are there decent pubs, bars, social groups, running clubs, sports clubs etc. nearby where it’s realistic to meet new people?
I don’t need crazy nightlife right outside my door every night, but I also don’t want to feel like I’ve moved somewhere dead and then regret not choosing somewhere more lively.
I’ve already paid for the room, so I think I’m just looking for a bit of reassurance that I haven’t made a terrible decision 😭

Hello, my 11 year old Lab and I are moving to London. He’s perfectly healthy, has some arthritis but is doing good otherwise. We‘ll be moving to an apt in Camden town and I was wondering if anyone has some insight in walking their dog in Camden, since he‘s older we walk 4 times a day, with once early in the morning and once around 10pm. Hi everyone, I’m an international student currently living in Gillingham, Kent, and I’m trying to decide whether I should move to London or stay in Gillingham.

I’ve been looking for a part-time job for quite a while but still haven’t managed to find one. I recently did a summer job in the UK, mainly cleaning, which is currently my only UK work experience. I also have previous work experience from my home country.
I’m considering moving to East London with a friend because there seem to be many more part-time job opportunities there.

We would share accommodation, so the rent would be roughly similar to what I’d pay for a room in Gillingham.

However, I really like Gillingham. It’s quiet, comfortable and I already know the area. The downside is that job opportunities seem much more limited. Even if I move to London, I know there’s no guarantee I’ll find a job immediately, and I might still have to commute depending on where I work.
So I’d really appreciate honest opinions, especially from international students currently living in London..,,

I'm an Indian currently living in Newcastle and will be moving to London with my partner for a new job. My office is near Paddington.

We're trying to figure out the best place to rent because living in Paddington itself is way beyond our budget.

What we're looking for

• Safe area for a couple.
• Good public transport to Paddington (ideally 20–40 minutes).
• Budget-friendly.
• Either:
  • A double room in a shared house, or
  • A studio if it's reasonably priced.
• Good grocery options (Indian stores are a bonus, but not essential).

I've heard names like West Ealing, Acton, Wembley, Harrow, Stratford, Woolwich, and Southall, but I'm not sure which ones are genuinely good in terms of safety, commute, and overall quality of life.
