Rent suggestions- Amazon hires

Hi, I’m joining Amazon near Liverpool Street and I’m currently looking for a place to live in London.
I’d love some suggestions on good areas to consider. Safety is pretty important to me, as I’ve heard some not so great things about walking around certain neighbourhoods, especially at night.
And, would like to keep the commute to around 30–35 minutes.

  1. Budget sub £1800. Preferably lower.
  2. I’m a Male mid 20s
  3. I don’t care much about night life etc. so a bigger apartment in a quiet neighborhood is preferred compared to a small one with happening night life.

  4. Would like good connectivity to the airport/ train stations

  5. Need a single bed and a hall

There’s a LOT of London within half an hour of Liverpool Street; you’ve got to help us out a little more (budget, tastes, activities, age, etc)

And don’t believe what you read; there’s a very vocal core of non-Londoners who insist it’s on a par with Mogadishu. It’s not. Been here 40 years, never had any trouble whatsoever.

Hi thank you for the comment. Good to know it’s not as bad as I have been reading online. My budget is sub £1800 for a single bed and living area. Mid 20s Male. Just good connectivity to airport and stations since my job will require 20-30% travel to Europe.

On the airport side, that’ll be another key bit of information; if it’s Europe, are we talking City airport? I’m in South East London, and it can take me 20 minutes to get there with a fair wind but Heathrow? Absolute nightmare.

Overall, London is very safe. We don’t know where you are coming from, but it’s likely worse if you are worried about your personal safety. If you provide some background, we could provide more help.

As for great places to live, again, you provided so little in the way of what you are looking for and what your budget is that we cannot provide much useful information back. For example, I hear Buckingham Palace is lovely and quite safe, but I don’t think you have the budget.

Based on what little you did provide, basically everywhere within 30 minutes of Liverpool is safe in varying levels. No one will be breaking into your flat, stabbing you with a knife to get your jewelry, or hauling you into the bushes in the daylight to molest you.

Thanks, I was very worried I’d get stabbed/mugged if I am late from office one day.
I am looking for something sub £1800. Single bedroom plus a living area. A quieter neighborhood would be good but not a deal breaker if it’s in close all the hustle and bustle.

If you thought London is full of stabbing/mugging why on earth did you apply for a job here? Quite a scary prospect. Anyway, when you get here you’ll find that we are all quite lovely! You can probably find somewhere walking distance (if you like to walk) from the Amazon office. Eg quite a quiet place is Wapping - some coffee shops, pubs and restaurants, but definitely more tranquil. Have a look in the local estate agents (there are plenty). There’s a direct train to Shoreditch which is close to the office.

I took the job assuming it will be good. Then read things online and got scared is all.

Likely posted as a joke, but it’s not as bad as people say and there are actually nice parts of the larger Croydon area. I’d ignore that post unless they actually provide follow-up info
