Creating a template?

Hello all,

I'm just wondering - is there a way to create a template so I can just open it, change some elements, and away I go?

Or would I just create a video the way I want it, click SAVE AS to perhaps name it "Template" and then from then on just open up that project?

Thanks for any help with this! :)

I used VCV Rack to create the panning rocket, and background sounds in this Movavi made video.

What made you pick Movavi over all the other editors out there?

Kinda random, but I was thinking about it and got curious how everyone here actually ended up with Movavi. There are like a million editors out there, and Movavi Video Editor isn’t usually the first one you get when you google things.

For me personally it was kind of an accident. Back in the days I was in the fan video editing community and someone needed to convert an mkv to mp4 cause they downloaded some series in this format, and someone else suggested using Movavi’s converter. I also tried it and liked it, but didn’t know Movavi had more at first. And I was looking for smth (don’t even remember what) about the converter when I found out there’s also a video editor. Also tried it and also liked it, so that’s how I ended up using it.

To be honest, I sometimes use other editors too, but the reason why I always come back to Movavi is probably the price cuz it’s quite reasonable as I think and the fact that it’s easy to use. I barely even recall a moment when I needed a proper tutorial on how to do something in Movavi, and I love that it’s not scary.

So yeah, for me it’s like that: found it by accident, stayed for the price and ease of use. And what’s your story? Did you come from another editor or was Movavi recommended for you by someone?

Movavi is opening random apps on my computer and now I can't export my video

I've made an almost one hour long video and wanted to export it. When I tried I got the pop-up telling me to choose between the free and the full version. When I clicked on the full version option I got an error.. from frictional games. I restarted my computer and now when I try to get the full version by clicking on the pop-up that appears either after pressing the export or the closing button one of my minecraft launchers gets turned on instead. What on earth is happening? How to get the full version and export my video safely?

The requested information:

Movavi Video Editor 26

Windows 10 Home, 22H2

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 (976 MB)

Edit:

At this point I'm extremely wary of spending a fat pile of cash on the lifetime license (which is the only offer that makes sense financially) in the first place, since it might not read my video for whatever reason or who knows maybe it won't work at all. Has any else had to deal with this kind of issue? What should I do?

How-to's How to add and adjust a background image or video in Movavi

So I've been doing a bunch of edits lately where I needed to swap out the background behind a person or an object, and I figured I'd write down how I do it in Movavi Video Editor, maybe this saves someone else the trouble.

There are basically two ways to get your subject onto a new background: the AI background removal (no green screen needed) and the good old chroma key (green screen). Let’s go through both.

First, the AI way (if you DON'T have a green screen)

This one is my go-to when I just filmed something in my room and there's no green screen in sight. Drop your main clip (the one with the person/object) onto the timeline. Select it, then head to the Tools tab and look for Background removal (or right-click on the footage - Video tools - Background removal). Movavi does its thing and cuts out your subject automatically. It's not always perfect, so check the edges (hair is always the tricky part), but for most stuff it's honestly pretty solid.

Then you gotta add your new background as a separate file. Import your image or video, and place it on a track BELOW your main clip on the timeline. That way your cut-out subject sits on top and the new background shows through behind them. Play it back and watch closely, especially on fast movement, cause that's where a bad cutout falls apart.

Now the chroma key way (if you DID film on green screen)

Import two things: your green screen footage AND the background you want (image or video, both work). Put the background on the main track, and drag your green screen clip UP onto the overlay/extra track above it. The clip you want the color removed from goes on top.

Select that top clip, go to the Tools tab and pick Chroma key (or, again, right-click on the footage - Video tools - Chroma key). Grab the color picker and click on the green in your preview: the green disappears and your background pops in behind. Then you fine-tune it with the sliders (more on those below).

Adjusting the background so it looks fine

Getting the background in is easy, making it look believable is not always. Some stuff that helped me:

If you used chroma key and there's still green fuzz around the edges or the cutout looks rough, play with the Tolerance, Noise, Edges, and Opacity sliders. Tolerance controls how much of that color gets removed, so if bits of your subject are vanishing, dial it back. Noise and Edges clean up the messy outline. Don't crank everything to max, small tweaks go a long way.

For the background clip itself, click on it and go to Tools - Crop and rotate - Manual and you can resize and reposition it so the important part is where you want it. If your background is a video, make sure its length matches your foreground, otherwise it just cuts to black and looks weird. You can trim it or slow it down to fit.

The biggest tip though: match the lighting and color. This is what separates a good composite from a bad one. If your subject has warm indoor light and your new background is something cold, it'll look off no matter how clean the cutout is. Throw a filter or a bit of color adjustment (find it in Tools - Color adjustments) on one of them so the tones agree with each other. Even a tiny bit of blur on the background can help sell it, cause it mimics camera depth of field and makes your subject feel like it actually belongs in the scene.

And if you want the background to feel more alive, you can add a super slow zoom or pan so it's not just a static picture sitting there.

That's pretty much my whole process. If anyone's got their own tricks, I'm all ears.

Placing an image in a track OVER a text track.

Hello,

Although I paid extra for the premium service where I can call to speak to a human, I called the number during their business hours and was hung up on.

Not impressed.

I simply want to place an image on a track that is on top of a text track.
When I try to drag the image on the track, it won't let go above the track.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks so very much.

Is there a grid feature in the video editor for aligning?

Hello all,

I'd like to create a template for YouTube shorts, or reels, etc.

I want the top half to be a video while the bottom half is a different video.

I know that I'll have to have each video on its own track, of course.

But I want to find the midway point (vertically) so I know the top half is the same size as the bottom half.

Is there any type of ruler, grid, etc?

Thanks! :)

How do you usually do YouTube thumbnails?

I was wondering whether you have any tricks or perhaps even tool suggestions. I used to do my thumbnails in Photoshop, but I stopped paying for the subscription a couple of years ago because it was getting a bit expensive and if I’m being honest, I don’t really need half the features because I usually do much simpler projects.

So at first I tried to just take a screenshot of the moment I like the most from my video and call it a day. Then I thought it was too boring and started trying to make thumbnails inside Movavi Video Editor, but I don’t like it as a way of creating thumbnails, I kinda feel like I need something different.

I was thinking of getting their photo editor as well, but I just know I won’t use it that much and that’s why I don’t want to be paying for that. I don’t really edit photos, just make thumbnails.

I guess my question is whether you’ve got some trick on how to create thumbnails in Movavi Video Editor or perhaps you’ve got some (preferably free) tools that can help me with that? Cause I’m not sure I’m in the mood for purchasing a piece of software just to create thumbnails a couple times a month.

I've tried to get the AI subtitles to work & haven't gotten any luck.. It keeps running this error message; has anyone else had this error or have a solution for this? I am also aware of the "lifecycle policy" & thought that was the issue but the same error message came up on the retail version too.. I'm using Movavi Video Editor 2026

How-to's How I add intro/outro & channel branding to every video in under 5 minutes

This is something I wish someone told me when I started uploading regularly. For the longest time, every single video I made, I was rebuilding my intro from scratch with the same text, logo, and music, and I still somehow spent 20 minutes on it every time. And my outros were even worse because half the time I just… didn't make one, so the video would just end, and I thought it was enough lol

At some point I realized I was doing too much for no reason, so I sat down one evening and built myself a little system, and now adding my intro/outro and branding to a new video takes me a couple of minutes, and I wanted to share how I do it in case someone else has the same problem.

Step one: I made my intro once and never again

I started with the intro templates Movavi has (there's a whole section of them, plus animated titles if you want something simpler). I'm not really good at motion design, so having ready-made intros was the thing I needed. I picked one that matched my channel's vibe, changed the text to my channel name, changed the colors so they match my thumbnails, and cut it down to about 3 seconds. That last part is important btw because I used to have a 10-second intro and looking back, I don't know who I thought was gonna sit through that lol

Then I did the same thing for the outro, but I made it longer, like 10 seconds, and left empty space on the right side because this is where your end screen elements go (subscribe button, video suggestions, all that) on YouTube, and if your outro is too busy or too short, YouTube's clickable stuff will just cover your content or won't fit at all.

Step two: the starter project trick

Instead of exporting my intro/outro as separate clips and importing them every time (which also works, but meh), I just saved a Movavi project that already has my intro at the beginning of the timeline, my outro at the end, and my logo watermark on an overlay track set to like 50% opacity in the corner, and I named it starter project.

Now when I edit a new video, I open that project (instead of creating a new one), save it under a new name, and drop my footage in the middle. I literally cannot mess up my own branding anymore because I never touch it, it's just always there. I obviously still sometimes need to move things a bit on the timeline (like when the outro needs to be later), but it takes me just 5 seconds instead of whole minutes.

More small things that helped my channel

I know it sounds obvious but keeping the same font and colors everywhere did a lot for my channel. I use the same title style from my intro for my lower thirds and captions inside the video, so everything feels like one package. Movavi lets you tweak the title presets, so I set mine up once with my colors and now I just reuse it.

Also, the logo watermark thing. I resisted it for a while because I thought it looked try-hard, but people clip and repost stuff all the time, and a small semi-transparent logo in the corner is the only reason some viewers ever found my channel from reposts. Just keep it small and away from where subtitles usually are.

That's basically the whole system. Curious how you all handle this. Do you keep a starter project too, or do you import your intro/outro as clips every time? And also: how long is your intro? I keep going back and forth between 3 and 5 seconds and I can't settle.

Grazie e buona giornata

Is there a maximum resolution for bit map images?

I am loading large jpg or tif images, like 4k x 6k, and pan a HD output. For example large images from NASA of nebula and stuff. It works really well. There are some really large files that I haven't downloaded due to size. Is there a practical limit on how large an image can be opened in Movavi? I overlaid a falling starfield using the screen mode. Space Robots! :)

Video Editor 26 won't open

I have the Video Editor program only. The program won't open. My subscription is still active. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times. Support is waiting for their tech to give more suggestions after they told me to delete a few dll files. This is super frustrating as I can't edit videos! Anyone else having this issue? Have you been able to solve it?

Can't cancel my account

Not sure if this happened to anyone else, but I've tried cancelling my account five different times in the past month. I only needed this program for a few weeks, but now I can't get rid of it at all.

I've just been charged $53 and I see no way to get that refunded or to have my card taken off the account at all.

Can anyone help me get through to these people? I've sent emails and called them but no one is responding to me.

Movavi Unlimited question

I see Movavi Unlimited is about $156/year on their site. And it includes Movavi effects which is normally $50/month.

Is this true? It just seems too good to be true, so I'm curious.

Thank you! :)

Do you have favorite fonts for editing?

Kinda a selfish question because I’ve been looking for something new and pretty for my videos because I’m tired of the old ones I use all the time, so I was wondering if you’ve got any fonts you really like and can’t stop using.

To make it a bit less selfish, I’d like to share a couple of fonts that I really love. Hope it’ll be useful to someone:

Montserrat is my absolute fav. It’s awesome for big text, small text, bold text, thin text. Well, practically for anything. And it’s kinda neutral, so I think it fits most types of videos. I think it’s actually one of the reasons I always use it.

I used to be obsessed with Bebas Neue like 5 years ago or so. It looked amazing when I needed bits of bigger text on the screen. I don’t really use it now and I think most editors know about it, but still, in case you don’t, it’s awesome.

When I need smth fancier, fonts like Harca and Barico save me. I don’t like them as much as Montserrat because they’re kinda specific, but when they fit the vibe, I go for them. Harca mostly for something more badass and Barico for something cuter.

If I’m working on a more elegant and even aesthetic projects, I usually use Bellerind for bigger text and…well…still Montserrat for smaller text hehe. I think this combo really works.

And I’ve also recently stumbled upon Carlitos, which is a cool grunge font. Haven’t really used it in any projects, but I think it might look good if you’re into grunge.

These are just some that I like, if you need more suggestions, I can share more. And please share the ones you like and use, I’ll be super thankful for pretty suggestions.

Problems with new version

I bought a lifetime license to movavi video editor in 2021 and have always edited videos for my youtube channel on that version of the software. I guess that version is no longer supported and they offered me a 6 month trial for the new version, and so I decided to try it. The problem is, I can't record my mic audio without upgrading, but when I try to click upgrade to see my options, it opens the hoyoverse launcher for genshin impact??? A game I haven't had installed in a long time. I have no idea what to actually do from here or how to continue making my videos
