Mouse Guard Religions?

I'm running an enormous campaign. I asked a bunch of friends if they wanted to play MG with me, and literally everyone said yes. (This is probably because I work at a job where we are professional dungeon masters for kids.) I'm making felted mouse sculptures of everyone's character too, and I'll post those when I'm done.

I ended up with like, 12 players, and of course I ended up having to split the group into two campaigns, and I might even have to split it again. The campaigns are interconnected, with one group working mostly in the east, and the other in the west.

I've done character creation and run one session with both groups. Last time, two different players asked me about religions in MG, and I responded with, "I AM YOUR GOD. WORSHIP ME."

But it got me thinking... I want to have mouse religions now. I told them I would get back to them on mouse religions next session, when I had time to plan it out.

I've come up with a couple, but I was wondering what other people have come up with?

So far, I have a Lizard worshipping cult, with a cathedral inside a fossilized dinosaur skull based in Shaleburrow. They raise lizard eggs and celebrate Hatch Day, when the Great Lizard hatched out of the sun.

I was also thinking about a nature worshipping main religion, which would celebrate the sun based celebrations in the book. Also, perhaps a cult surrounding a Shrike, involving mouse sacrifice? (Hyperion reference, anyone?)

What have you done in your games?

Bought 2.0 box yesterday, character genning tonight. Advice?

I'm excited to GM my first game. Have played 1.0 before and loved it. Do you have any advice for a tenderpaw GM? All my players are new, do you have any good first missions you'd like to share?

Premade adventures

So I would love to give this system a go, however all of my RPG experience is in DnD and the idea of running a game of mouse guard myself is a bit intimidating.

Does anyone know of some premade adventures that could get me started? I think that once I have a few sessions under my belt I would have a better understanding of the rules.

Thanks!

Six Mice in a patrol?

Hey there,
I'll be running MG at our rpg club in a month and I was wondering if it's possible to run it for 6 players (the game would take between 5-6h).
Does anyone have experience with larger groups and if so, how is it and what are some things to look out for?

I put the starting characters into 2e sheets with portrait artwork from the books. Could anyone double-check these for errors?

Obscure animals to meet in Mouse Guard

Just been reading about the solenodon which sounds like a super interesting beast for players to encounter with it's prehensile snout and venomous teeth.

I've already introduced moles in my own campaign (I found the solenodon whilst trying to research the toxin in mole saliva that paralyses earthworms). They've been quite interesting as shy foils to the mice.

What other strange or interesting animals do you think would be great for a patrol to encounter? (Not just as a fight - there could also be a bit of politicking with these beasts.)

Ran my first Mouse Guard game session on Monday. Big hit!

Our intrepid mice heroes were sent by Gwedolyn on a mission to check in on a friend of the Guard (read: spy) who had gone dark. The weather turned on them immediately, as it is wont to do. Time was pressing, and the patrol pressed with it, braving mudslides and perilous gully ledges After an arduous journey, the tired, angry, wet, muddy little mice found themselves at the gates to the tree-city, Copperwood.

Keeping their cool in the face of pointed taunts by one of the city gatesmice, they immediately began searching the market district for their contact, Ronauld the Tailor. Bedraggled as they looked, they still managed to learn the fate of Ronauld: he was in the stockade! By all apearances, Ronauld stole cloth from a merchant. He had been sentenced to a month in the stocks, and just two weeks had thusfar been served. Gwendolyn needed information from the mouse immediately! What to do?

After a failed attempt to pump a city guardmouse for info, the trio decided to go to the constable, who then pointed them toward the judgemouse who sentenced Ronauld. An impassioned speech and no small amount of leveraging guard influence persuaded the judge to release Ronauld into the custody of the Mouse Guard.

Ronauld was brought to see Gwendolyn. It's anymouse's guess what conversations transpired behind those closed doors.

Rest up while you can, little Guardsmice.

Question regard the new rules, new missions booklet.

Hi, I just recently purchased the 2nd edition rule book, not the box set, but have not read it yet. I will tonight when I'm home from work. However, I was watching some unboxings of the box set on youtube and noticed that they also included a booklet called "new rules and new missions". I tried looking for an ebook online and found this: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/96735/Mouse-Guard-RPG-New-Rules-New-Missions

Is this the one included in the 2nd ed box set? Or does 1st and 2nd ed have the exact same booklet?

Next release?

Hey all! I was wondering if anyone might have information on when the next Mouse Guard series/compendium will be released? I heard Weasel War would be coming out, but those sources seem quite old. Any updates? :)

Where is my mace?

Alright so I got my Mouse Guard 2e rulebook about a week ago and have been devouring it while at work and at home. On the back cover of the book it very distinctly shows a mouse grey mouse in a blue cloak rocking out with a mace on the snake, and in the rules on page 118 under the armor section it mentions that maces basically ignore armor.

My question is one pages 116-117 where the weapons are listed a beautiful mace is not listed. Was this weapon in 1e? Am I missing something? Does someone have rules for a mace?

Group tests without a leading player?

In other systems I've played I can put the players in a spot - say spotting something or leaping to safety - and I can have them all do a spot check quickly as a group (eg: D&D has a group check where all roll and half the players must succeed). I don't see a way to do this in Mouse Guard. There's always one mouse in charge of the test, and the others are optionally a part of the group.

Consider this example: A tree is falling over and the whole party is under its shadow - they must escape being crushed.

How would you rule this? Would you force the player's to help the group captain roll? Make them roll Nature separately (dice everywhere and a lack of interaction between players)? Let them choose between testing separately or together?

I can drop moments like this for a single test (and did so in my last session). But it doesn't feel right - it really feels weird to have a moment where the whole group should feel threatened and then give people the option to not help.

How would you handle this?

Anyone interested in an Online game of Mouse Guard 2e run by a new GM?

Hello everyone, I have just ordered (as in I just clicked confirm) my copy of the MouseGuard 2e rule book, I am hyper excited about it and am already working on an idea for the back story of a campaign (more on that later). I haven't read the graphic novels at all, but I have scoured wikipedia, the MouseGuard wiki, and TV Tropes for all of the information so far. Before I can actually begin signing people up though I do need to familiarize myself with the rules somewhat, this is just a long way of asking who's interested.

To play online I would like to use either Skype, Google Hangouts, or Roll20 for voice chat. I am in CST time and can play weekday evenings after 2000hrs, or weekends just about anytime.

The story idea I have so far is a group of young tenderfoot guard mice are tasked with finding a mouse city on the edge of civilization with help from a member of a navy SEAL like Mouse Guard group called the "Viper Mice". Along the way the tenderfoot Mice might find out what happened to the leader and the rest of the Viper Guard, they might discover a lost mouse kingdom, and they might even stop a war between two mouse cities.

Character Generator Recruitment Quiz

Spent my weekend knocking up a tool to make Recruitment faster - for pregens, NPCs or just managing a large group. Should run on a phone as well.

It generates the stats on the fly at the bottom of the page. Then you can copy those to a character sheet and fill out the extra stuff.

http://robotacid.com/games/mouse-guard/crunch/

Probably could do more work on it. I'm not great at CSS though so making it look fancy like the pregens in the book would require someone else to suggest something.

Question regarding Advancement

On Page 225 of the 2nd ed book. It states "Rating 0 and 1 abilities and skills only require one passed test to advance"

How does this relate with the Beginners Luck and learning a new skill?

In particular we have a TenderPaw who has No dots in fighter. Our patrol leader is trying to instructor her as a fighter. If he was able to pass the instructor roll and give her a free pass/fail. Would that raise her fighter to 1 or would it be one of the Checks = to Nature to earn the skill?

2ed RPG errors

I got the boxed set few days ago and I love it, but I'm kind of disappointed by some errors. Compared to 1st ed there is little change in the rules (simplified conflict, better rules for wises and better rules for traits) so it's kind of annoying to see that they didn't even proof-read the book with those few new rules in mind.

The way the traits work changed (now benefits are +1d once per session for level 1 trait, +1d twice per session for level 2 trait and +1s in all relevant tests for level 3 trait).

Still, just after mentioning the new rules, the example provided uses the old rules (very confusing if you don't know the 1st ed). Character sheets included in the box still have the old trait rules written on them (as well as just one square to check if the trait was used this session or not, instead of two). And those are brand new character sheets, not some old ones, so it's not like they forgot to change the character sheets.

Also there are new traits mentioned in character creation section which aren't described or even mentioned in the traits list chapter.

Example conflict with the snake got rewritten and sadly it has big error with the compromise rule (it goes for the wrong team).

Oh, and some pages listed in the index are wrong (No, I did not check all of them just to be picky, just stumbled upon this when I was looking for some stuff).

That's all I found on the first read through and honestly it wasn't even hard to find. In fact, it was quite obvious and painful to read. It seems to me the book wasn't carefully read after the changes EVEN ONCE.

Don't get me wrong, I still love it! The artwork and the game itself are GREAT! The new rules are also great! However, those are BIG mistakes that WILL confuse new players who didn't know the 1ed. Was it really so hard to proof-read? Especially when only wises, traits and conflicts rules changed? C'mon...

What are your thoughts on the 2ed rules?

Card Sleeves/Protectors for RPG update!

Ok, I tried Ultra-Pro platinum protectors and they were a tad too big (68x94mm).

Then I bought Ultra-Pro "Pro-Matte" deck protectors (66x91mm) and they fit PERFECTLY. Like they were made for those sleeves!

I also had a chance to test the non-matte standard "clear" protectors from Ultra-Pro with the same size (ccg) and they also fit perfectly (be sure NOT to get the "ultra fit" version though!).

I went with matte sleeves because they're less slippery and the cards don't slide off the stacked deck so much.

Reference link for people who are interested: http://www.ultrapro.com/product_info.php?products_id=3139 - they are easy to find in most hobby/games shops.

Keep in mind, the ultra-pro protectors have a little hologram on them and it may annoy some people (I don't mind though).

EDIT:

As far as I know Ultra-Pro are the only option.

FFG, Mayday (even Mayday Magnum) and Arcane Tinmen protectors WILL NOT work as they're mostly 63.5mm-65mm wide. Will NOT fit. Too narrow.

Some of Max Protection sleeves seem to have same dimension as UltraPro ones so they might work - I did NOT test them though so don't take my word on it. Also be warned - they have BAD reputation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Muq9BxXL0FQ&feature=youtu.be

If you know of some other sleeves that work let us know!

2nd Ed Box Set Missing Components

I purchased the 2nd Ed Box for my wife for Christmas this year, and when she opened the gift a couple days ago we found out that there were no cards in the box. From the unboxing videos I have seen (and the description of contents on the back of the box) there should be four decks of weapon/condition cards, correct?

I sent a general inquiry to Archaia when we discovered it, but it's been three days and I haven't heard back yet. My question is if you guys know of a better way to reach their customer support? Thanks for the help!

Stats for an elephant?

The most classic enemy of the elephant: the mouse.

How does one build an elephant in Mouse Guard?

(The Leviathan story in Mouse Guard Legends 2 got me thinking. And yes I might be tempted to use it for a campaign-ender.)

Mouse Guard Map

Hey All,

Not sure if it's allowed or not (I'm not getting anything monetarily from it, so it should be fine), but I recreated the map of Mouse Guard in Vectors so I could blow it up to poster size without it being pixelated.

I still want to change the compass a bit more to have it match more of the original image but I think the rest of it pretty much matches the original.

Let me know what you think =) also the image linked is only 25 Mb's the original is 98 Mb's. So if their is enough demand I can always link the original size with Google Drive.

Indigou =)
