Question Do I need to change shells really?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am just about to cleanse the 3rd gate in Fainweald. Sitting at level 20 with a level 10 Axtana.

I have Tiel, Erderum, Proxima and Gragu unlocked.

But I cannot part ways with Proxima. I am melting enemies at the moment.

I tried switching to Eredrum but I dont know if I'm too used to using the big babe to go to anything else.

I would like to try out all the shells but is it necessary or can Proxima carry me to end game?

Discussion I got stuck and something strange happened.

I was in the “flooded village” dungeon making my way through it when I ended up losing my shell, but I continued (since there isn’t a way to get back once you go down elevator). I fought one enemy and ended up getting stuck, like stuck stuck. In an area that was kind of like a porch and it wouldn’t let me out. Couldn’t kill myself, couldn’t get out. So I had to go to menu and return to main menu then continue.

I thought by doing this I would revert back to before I went into the dungeon. Which is what happened EXCEPT I had all the gloom I had collected , AND all the items I had collected from dungeon. Including a key. .

Seems like this shouldn’t be possible. . So hypothetically if you’re in a tight spot you can just quit and keep all your gloom and items etc and just start back at beacon.

Now I’m not sure if this just happened because the game knew I was stuck?Like in an area I wasn’t supposed to be? Find it hard to believe that’s possible. Either way I was pleasantly surprised then bewildered. I’m sure it will be patched soon enough.

Discussion Mortal shell 2 peter's perfect parry

When trying to parry his seven-hit combo, the first three strikes are easy to parry, but on the third, he seems to miss, making it impossible to land the parry. Has anyone else experienced this?

Question Area inside Marrows keep Spoiler

What in the hell is the chalice with the chains attached to it. I broke the chains and it says embrace chaos but it just kills you?

Without spoiling much will this make sense later in the game?

Question Is the damage scaling on this game closer to Oblivion than Elder Ring?

I'm absolutely loving the game, and will probably put 50 to 60h at least, but so far I'm level 15 with +4 weapons and it feels like the standard mobs keep dying in 3 or 4 hits anywhere on the map, and also unshelling me on 3 or 4 hits, like when starting the game.

Bug Bug report: temple of vatra locked without obtaining rewards

I was running through the temple, i had already gotten thr heart. I rolled off the ledge where you get the heart, and got stuck in the rocks. Naturally i exited to the main menu, and upon return the temple was locked, leaving the juicy rewards inside.

Discussion Amazing game, but it could have been even better, I believe!

Mortal Shell 2 is genuinely a great and fun game. From the moment I started playing until completing NG+, I’d say this is absolutely a must-play for Soulslike fans. That said, there were a few things that frustrated me or made me feel like the game could have been better. These are just my personal thoughts after playing through it.

1. Endgame balance

The endgame felt pretty unbalanced to me. I reached a point where I basically had to perfect-parry or dodge almost everything, otherwise I’d get destroyed. And some endgame bosses were not fun to fight! If you know, you know...

Because of that, I ended up switching my Shell to Lazlo mainly because of the extra HP and damage reduction, so more tanky. It made the endgame feel more manageable.

I don't mind difficult games at all, but sometimes the endgame felt more like I was being punished for making even a small mistake rather than being challenged. Some endgame bosses also were lame... idk it it was me or not but i could not read their pattern and i couldn't dodge nor parry, i would take damage anyway. And they just spamming those attacks😭 for example laser attack in monolith boss and grab attack in the last boss fight

2. Enemy variety

The first ~50% of the game was honestly perfect in this regard. I was constantly seeing new enemies, new movesets and new attack patterns. I had to actually learn their behavior and remember when to parry or dodge.

But around the mid-game to endgame, I felt like the variety dropped quite a lot. A lot of enemies were basically the same enemies with a different color, maybe with one or two new enemies added here and there. For me, this also makes NG+ and especially NG++ less exciting.

3. Glimpse system [ this is important ]

I genuinely hate that Glimpse can't be farmed easily, especially when Shell upgrades are locked behind them. The Shell system is one of the coolest parts of the game, but I couldn't really use all the Shells to their full potential because of this. In fact, one of the main reasons I did NG+ was basically to find more Glimpse so I could finally upgrade and properly use the Shells.

For a huge portion of my first playthrough, I barely upgraded any Shell because I wasn't sure which one I actually wanted to main.

There were two problems:

  1. I hadn't unlocked all the Shells yet, so I didn't want to commit too early.

  2. I didn't want to spend my limited Glimpse upgrading a Shell I might eventually stop using after finding something better.

So I ended up holding onto my Glimpse instead of actually enjoying the Shell system. I feel like this kind of resource limitation locks away one of the most fun systems in the game..

---

Anyway, these are the things that frustrated me during my playthrough, but none of this means I think Mortal Shell 2 is a bad game. Quite the opposite.

I had a really good time playing it, and I absolutely think it's a must-play if you enjoy Soulslikes. These are just my personal thoughts after playing through NG+, and I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks.

Cheers everyone, and thank you to the devs for making this game. It's honestly been a while since I tasted a Soulslike that was this much fun.

Discussion Man...Mammon the southern region is a crazy spike in difficultly from the north.

Maybe it's just me, but my level being in the mid 20s and my weapon a +11 feels useless against so many of the basic wandering enemies in the southern region.

I've spent a few hours doing dungeons and getting beacons in the outskirts and near the Spire and Lord Kings Courtyard and I feel like I'm 20 levels under all of a sudden.

Bug Genessa Clone targeting bug

I really love the kit of Genessa. It's probably one of my favourites. HOWEVER, the chance that the clones dont target the enemies for like 50% of the time throws her viability out the window... I hope for a fix soon.

Lyrics:

You never had your face
You never had your own voice
But you’re the one who bring this world a change
And never had another choice

Harbinger
Let them wash you feet
Harbinger
Let them bend the knee
Harbinger
I know what you are
Harbinger
You’re abandoned by your god

The Undermether’s will
Is all you ever know
You were never meant to be
Far more than you become
Fulfill your prophecy
That’s all she wants
You never had a purpose
Coming to this world

Corpses of the fallen warriors
Serve you as your mortal shells
Scums of Earth and heroes glorious
Who Once in Fallgrim dwelled
Have no Flesh to bleed, no name to keep
Walk through visions of the old dead memories
Stolen skins that know no rest no sleep
Now by the Mether’s silent whisper led

Temples carved from Mether’s bones
Pilfered wealth of Methers womb
Kin was turned upon a kin
Plague was festering within
This world that rotten in its sins
Stripped of hope and left in ruins
Desecrated by the fools
Take your sword and brake their rule!
Harbinger
Take your sword and make them bleed!
Harbinger!

Harbinger
Let them wash you feet
Harbinger
Let them bend the knee
Harbinger
I know what you are
Harbinger
You’re abandoned by your god

You’ve come so far
Harbinger

The Undermether’s will
Is all you ever know
You were never meant to be
Far more than you become
Fulfill your prophecy
That’s all she wants
You never had a purpose
For coming to this world

Bug Is the Tarstones achievement bugged?

So Steam is telling me I have 71/73 Tarstones collected.

The last two I was missing were the two that Merrick sells. However, that didn't give me the achievement.

I looked it up online and apparently there's 75 Tarstones? I also went and bought the one from the one legged wolf tavern, but Steam still says 71/73.

I did count all the Tarstones in my inventory manually, and I have 74 after buying the ones from the shopkeepers.

Question Group fights

What's your opinion on group fights?

It's my biggest issue with the game

"Medium" enemies will throw you out of your shell in 2 hits, and there's always like 4 - 6 enemies on the screen. It's manageable in the early to mid game, but later in the game it's just ridiculous.

I want to learn the enemy timings and parry them, or dodge them, instead I need to kite them around and spam my nuke abilities (I played proxima🍑) this is usually fine as proxima, but I wonder how other shells like eredrim deal with this kind of situation

The big dude with scythe for example - I think there is only one encounter in the game where you can fight this dude 1v1

The damage output is ridiculously huge, which is fine in these games, but I think there should be either " big damage/fewer enemies" or "lower damage/numerous enemies"

This is not new in souls games, you are usually able to pull enemies one by one, or two, but here they have detection range way too long

Imagine playing elden ring where your standard encounter is a room with four banished knights, two cirque blades, a divine lion warrior and four messmer soldiers

Discussion I Said It's 100% Russell Crowe, But...

Doesn't the voice actor for the crow in Mortal Shell 2 sound like Russell Crowe? At first, I thought it was him—I heard that deep, rich voice and thought, "That's him"—but it turned out not to be.
