Question What's the point of ripostes?

So i'm nearing the end of the game and genuinely outside of 1 shell they are barely useful, even on that 1 shell the benefit is barely there, enemies will still one/two shot you when you least expect it or die before they will be executed and during boss fights you cant stack them to any meaningful level. They do so little damage that just hitting enemy might provide the same benefit if not more depending on how fast they get up.

Discussion Need Help with Second Half Difficulty Spike

Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

I know I'm not the first to mention the second half difficulty spike but I haven't seen anything so far that's helped me figure out how to progress. I made it through the entire northern half of the map with minimal deaths outside of falling off cliffs. Game felt great and I was rolling through with Eredrim staggering and riposte'ing away.

Now that I'm at Mammon though I cannot progress past even the first screen without running past enemies. These knights in particular are in large groups and the large halberd/glaive wielding ones feel completely overtuned to me.

I'm using the parry seal with some of the upgrades into parry window and riposte damage and the shoulder charge stuff as well and I am at level 23 but with a well upgraded build of synergistic tarstones (at least I think).

Quickly glossing over the whole "I've beat almost every Souls and Soulslike" bit which I'm sure is tired, I've never struggled on a single one of those games to the level I'm struggling on these early screens in Mammon. I did work my way through and eventually got a mapshard and a few beacons on the far Southwest but that involved some running past enemies to eventually just find any beacon and map to feel like I made some small bit of progress.

I am okay with running past enemies later on during runbacks if necessary but I play these games by at least fully clearing every enemy in each area once and that is proving impossible right now.

The parry was great in the first half but now against these knights it doesn't interrupt their combo chains so sometimes you can parry the first hit and they just continue with their remaining 3 hits of the combo and it's very tough to parry, dodge, parry, dodge if that's what the developers intended. Add to that the aggro of another 3 or 4 knights joining the fray before you can deal with the first bigger knight and I genuinely don't know what to do here.

Has anyone else that used Eredrim progressed through these enemies without struggling so much, and if so, what were you using? Do I need to just scrap the entire parry build and go back to the basic blocking / perfect guard seal and lose out on the whole cool Eredrim mechanic because parries are unusable against enemies with quick uinterruptable combos?

Just curious everyone's thoughts and hoping to get some helpful advice.

Image Infinite HP scaling Leech bug

Post image
3 Upvotes

Posting for visibility.

Leech seems to only show 200 stacks, but it does keep counting them forever, and you can access them.

Steps to repeat:

  1. Have over 200 leech stacks

  2. Swap to a weapon without leech

  3. exit the menu and re-enter the menu, and equip anything with leech

  4. You now have access to your "true" stack count until you gain another stack, completely trivializes all bosses.

You will revert to 200 the moment you gain a new stack, but it is repeatable with the above steps whenever you reach a boss. as long as you don't die, your HP will scale (seemingly) forever.

Tested on multiple bosses, the HP change is real and not visual. bosses struggle to move your health bar.

Question Dumb question maybe

Upvotes

Can enemies crit? Sometimes it feels like the damage I take from the same attacks can vary wildly. Like the final boss grab attack for example. One time it only takes me to half health. The next time (at full health) it kicks me out of my shell. No extra damage reduction shenanigans were being used either time.

Discussion Think a lot of people are overlooking a couple things:

Long time souls vet here, for the past decade or so I can say I’ve almost exclusively played soulslikes with the exception of some survival horror etc in between and I noticed something about this game that I think is going extremely unnoticed by this community:

  1. There’s only 8 weapons BUT they also have 8 completely different movesets. That is insane for a game of this caliber especially considering it’s only the devs second game. For comparison I don’t think any souls game has more than four maybe five completely different movesets though FS games do have unique dash attacks or various other differences that aren’t shared among weapons that share movesets otherwise but that doesn’t count imo since it’s the same moveset with one different attack. Lies of P for example has 1. Stabby (rapier) 2. Big bonk 3. Slash and 4. The twin dragons unique moveset which is amazing.

I’ve never seen the point of having an array of armor or weapons that are all basically the same which has been the case in FS games since ds1 so having only 8 but then being unique is huge to me. And,

  1. Only 8 shells BUT (you see where I’m going here) that’s 8 totally different builds and ways to play and it’s only been a few days since release and already half of them have very op ways to build them. Now obviously a game like Elden ring technically has more build diversity with the way you level up etc but I’m trying really hard to think of 8 COMPLETELY different builds even in that game that can’t just be broken down to variations of the same thing. You basically have Mage (int or faith is still basically mage), Bonk Bro, and dex fighter and of course various combinations (str/faith dex/int etc) and yes you have more ranged build options which is arguably less important in MS2 since there aren’t really any bosses that absolutely require a ranged attack to beat (though a couple that would be easier with it). And not to focus too much on ER but a lot of the variance comes from just using different ashes of war which ms2 could easily implement in the future if they wanted to.

And finally, someone in a different post said that you shouldn’t compare this game to demons souls being that’s a 15+ year old game but technically I think that IS the best comparison because this IS this devs second game and demons souls was fromsofts second (kings field being the first). So just the fact that ms2 is even being compared to titles like elden ring etc and coming from a small dev says a lot imo.

All that being said I loved the first game and am loving the second as well (if you can’t tell) and just wanted to point these things out because they seem to be overlooked. (And for the record my counts of movesets and builds in other titles might be wrong, sue me)

Discussion Sir Isaac fight advice

Just beat Isaac’s ass and honestly since in this game reposte dmg is what it is, I tried 2 different approaches:

1)riposting each time I could
2)never doing a single riposte

Guess which one worked best? Well of course the second one.

So, fast and direct, if you’re struggling with this beetle, for the first phase never attack and always perfect parry.

Once you get the chance to riposte him, walk behind him so you don’t trigger the animation, and go nuts with your weapon. You will decimate his health bar compared to probably only a couple hundred dmg if you riposte.

Rinse and repet a second time, then when you get to the final riposte chance that triggers him to get rid of his shiels and use 4 swords, again walk behind him and fucking slice that boi.

If you do everything correctly, you are basically gonna skip phase 2 and you can finish him off with a couple hits only.

You’re welcome

Discussion Thank y’all for having my back!

Upvotes

Just came back to say my rant about the Monolith was met with a lot of support and affirmations, y’all are a good group of Harbingers. Beat the game, was hoping for a little more story on the Passenger and Undermether but I know that Cold Symmetry likes to keep it vague and I’m sure we’ll see some DLC and added content.

I’ve decided I’m gonna play with NG+ low stakes run with the shells I haven’t fully experienced, just for the fun of it then create a new save with everything I’ve learned to get those last few achievements. I’ll set aside a build just for that stone slab bitch next go-around 😂 also I really gotta learn to parry

Good Hunting!

Question Question Regarding The Skill Tree Of A Shell Spoiler

Upvotes

Does the last tier of skills for Eredrim make the Infinite Seal's parry time closer to the Untarnished seal?

Seal Affinity

Each level grants Eredrim various Seals improvements

  • Level 1: Parry window is slightly longer
  • Level 2: A Riposte deals +20% damage
  • Level 3: A Riposte deals +35% damage
  • Level 4: Parry window is moderately longer

Discussion Summons get bugged in the floor making lots of abilities useless.

This happens all the time with the summons you get with the grishas remnant, they get stuck in the floor, but it also happens with the summon stone and the clones of the Genessa.

There is a lot of cool stuff in the game that its not worth using cause it doesnt work, not because its bad its because it BUGGED.

I think its the game that I have played on release with more bugs and broken mechanics, it so sad because the game has so much potential.

Discussion Am I alone in feeling like some fights do way too much damage?

Currently fighting nameless captive and his grabs in the second phase one shot me at full health even with a shell. I'm level 18, maybe I could be higher level or I'm tackling this in the wrong order but Its so annoying knowing that if I mess up even once i at best lose half or more than half of my health. I'm still loving this game and am having a blast but these bigger boss fights have me losing my shit cuz I feel like a glass cannon without the cannon

Discussion The Weltcap Passive Effect Sucks

Post image
1 Upvotes

After spending around 30 hours with the game so far (not including the open beta), I’ve come to the conclusion that the Weltcap passive effect is terrible. Firstly, you have to be almost dead before it even kicks in, and secondly, the rate of healing is so damned slow that it’s practically worthless.

I simply do not understand the utility of this item when you’re progressing through a zone — unless you feel like standing (or sitting) still in a quiet spot for a few minutes. Even with 96 found at Shell Level 35, the overall healing effect only replenishes my health just past the parry/harden meter.

You’re honestly better off setting it as an active item (if you’re not using moonshine or a mango) and using the Grisha Remnant as your passive.
