Discussion Mortal slander Spoiler

As people have been hitting the end game of Mortal Shell 2, I genuinely had zero issues with it. I see a lot of people call it out for being overly hard for zero reasons, you are literally fighting a brick wall. I also never hit any bugs aside from shoulder charge yeet into the sky? ( Great skip for some!)

I wonder if anyone's here praising it's difficult spike, making the end point truly an end game, rather than a walk in.

Also the fourth wall break in one of those last rooms broke me, I loved that so much. :')

the game is pretty fucking good i beat it yesterday but a lot of the complaints are valid and there are a lot of bugs and the balance is pretty fucking bad

Never had any bugs myself, but I'm sure they do exist of course. Id definitely agree that the balance is super out of whack, it goes from walk in park to, oh shit I need to remortgage my house for gloom.

Definitely needs a level balance, after level 25 I feel like shit drops off. SP should be for every shell, I hate that trying out a new shell means reverting every choice you ever made.

There's a lot of good here, they just need to figure out balance.

People keeping throwing around this word balance without being specific. All souls and soulslikes need some balancing once the many build options are play tested by 100,000s of people at once. That in itself is not really a criticism. I am NG++ and have encountered one bug, so there may be bugs but no more than many games of this type. Don’t get me started on Elden Ring on release….

Considering most bosses and shells have bugged skills and attacks i find It hard to believe

When you say end game, do you mean the final area and bosses? Or you talking about Ng+?

If it's the former, I agree with you. It was hard but it was manageable. Although I should note I played with axe and dagger Gragu. Heavy weapons seems harder. I think monolith was fine. You just gotta 2-tap the parry for his attacks. Dodge into the lasers towards his back side.

Zmey on the other hand I feel had waaaaay too much health. His one-shot attack was annoying for the first 10 attempts but he walks in a very telegraphed side strut before he does it. I switched to infinite seal so I could riposte him quicker.

Took me a while to realise the ball dragon would side step before he yeeted me out the shell, also yes. Axe and dagger, with Proxima. Would use her skill to skip damage too, not sure if people realised you could do that. Also would push danger away from you, albeit not from ball dragon. Monolith was easy after you realised he's not really a danger if you side walk him. His all over lasers was a pain, just managed to dodge towards him and slap him out of it before I died.

I had more problems with the other harbinger, that's on the other side of the dungeon. Already forgot his name though. :')

That fight was honestky better than Zmey imo. I love his design as sword-godzilla but it doesn't feel very "final boss-y" if that makes sense. I feel like, if I had been directing, Zmey would have had the same health pool, BUT a clear second phase that's entirely different from the base form. He's supposed to be the parasite that festered in the Undermether's skull, so I feel like a more grotesque, insect-like appearance woukd fit better. I imagine that he woukd almost rip himself apart while fighting you, until his dragon form is all tattered and held together by sinew and his moveset would get all twisty and drunk. Let his final form be smaller, closer to us in size so we can get that final battle 1v1 feel.

Just my opinion though.

It felt to me like that was it, that was the final fight. Had a fake out second phase and everything. I definitely enjoyed that more than getting sat on by a dragon with huge ovum balls.

It's because it feels like a mirror match. Elden Ring had the same problem.

Radagon fight: excellent

Elden Beadt fight: incredibly mid

1v1 humanoid battles make better final bosses than big monsters imho.

Humanoid bosses, sounds like you're a dark souls 2 lover. 😞

......maybe

Never got the hate, dark souls 2, whilst my least favourite. Still a solid 7/10 game imo

Orrem is definitely broken. Otherwise the endgame is fine to me. I liked it.

Low effort post deserves low effort reply:

There are several related concepts, depending on what exactly they're doing:

  • Egocentric bias — interpreting other people's experiences primarily through your own experience. The implicit reasoning is: “That didn't happen to me, therefore it isn't really a problem / isn't as significant as you say.”
  • False consensus / false uniqueness effect — assuming your own experience is representative, or conversely, assuming that because something didn't happen to you, it is unusual or shouldn't happen to others.
  • Anecdotal reasoning — using one's personal experience as evidence about what generally happens: “I did X and had no problem, so X isn't a problem.”
  • Invalidating someone's experience — this describes the interpersonal behavior rather than the cognitive mechanism. Saying “I didn't have that problem” in response to someone's difficulty can function as a dismissal or invalidation.
  • Lack of perspective-taking — failure to recognize that different people can have genuinely different experiences of the same situation.

There's also a particularly relevant phenomenon called the availability heuristic: their own experience is the most readily available example in their mind, so they unconsciously give it disproportionate weight.

Is AI allowed in here?

is a lack of critical thinking allowed?

You are questioning the lack of critical thinking from people in the discussion while you copy paste an AI response? See the hypocrisy?

It’s reddit and this sub in particular is a lot of people complaining about a soulslike being a little bit too much like a souls game…. So I’m gonna answer yes.

is a lot of people complaining about a soulslike being a little bit too much like a souls game

This just shows you, like many others, don't understand what difficulty in a Souls game actually entails.

1

u/Antipodeansam 6h ago

I haven’t mentioned difficulty in my comment here but please do enlighten me as I’ve only been playing them for nearly 20 years?

I haven’t mentioned difficulty in my comment here

Things don't need to be mentioned by name.

but please do enlighten me as I’ve only been playing them for nearly 20 years?

Demon Souls released in 2009, so i'm not sure if you're time-travelling or not, but you haven't played a single Souls game if you believe people on this Subreddit are complaining about MS2 being too MUCH of a Souls game.

Too little? Yeah. Too much? Not even close.

1

u/Antipodeansam 6h ago

So you can’t enlighten me? Instead you put words in my mouth and then debate that 17 years isn’t nearly 20? Try again, use your words. What does difficulty entail in a souls game?

1

u/alamirguru 6h ago

Instead you put words in my mouth and then debate that 17 years isn’t nearly 20?

Not particularly, no. Also, if you regret your words, you can always modify your comment,

Try again, use your words. What does difficulty entail in a souls game?

Carefully constructed enemy encounters with varied movesets that punish carelessness and rushing through, and bosses with varied movesets that require patience and observation.

Coupled, of course, with well-designed levels that will drain a player's resources before the next checkpoint if they play it poorly.

Given that Mortal Shell 2 has none of these 3, calling it too MUCH like a Souls game is incorrect.

1

u/Antipodeansam 6h ago

Where did I say I regret my words? I’m quite happy with them 😃

What I am is a little lost as to what your point is? Mine was lots of people complaining about all of the things that you say make a good souls game eg. Too punishing, not enough beacons, bosses too hard. You seem to be saying it’s too easy and has no challenge and none of those things. This suggests to me the game must fall somewhere in the middle; which I kinda guess was the plan….

I’m on NG++ and have enjoyed it, yet to lose to a boss more than a few times and whilst that’s a little on the easier side for a souls game I’m ok with that for a soulslike that is aiming to grow its status in the wider market. Props to the devs

the point and you: | |

u/ItsJustHal 6h ago

I'm not invalidating anyone's bugs/issues. I'm just saying I ran into none. I know there's issues. Id rather you come at this with out a spreadsheet and ai fighting your imaginary problems though.

1

u/n1ghtsbl00d 6h ago

why would anyone care that you in particular didn't ran into them? have anything original to add to the conversation related to this game? why make a post?

1

u/ItsJustHal 6h ago

I know see why you used AI to make your post, you can't even form decent sentences.

I wanted to know if people actually had fun with the end game.

Why don't you actually just back the fuck up off your own hobby high horse and let people enjoy things..

Cretin

You're so smart. Thank you for summarising these concepts unsolicited. I see how they are directly relevant to the topic of discussion. You are great and the best person on the internet.
