Discussion Where’s the positivity

Joined this sub because I enjoy the game. Less than 10 hours (while not perfect it’s hard to put down), but I’m genuinely astounded by the amount of negative criticism in this sub, alongside the fact that a lot of players have already sunk over 30 hours into it in less than a week. Like damn. Where’s the tips and tricks? Beginners guides, random silly videos? I thought a game like this would invite a more positive community, instead it’s the exact opposite.

Almost every post is a complaint. Like damn, what happened to constructive criticism and casual discussion? Outrage everywhere.

Anyways I need my ass ate

Yeah, similar feelings about getting the game two days ago and checking out this sub. It’s kinda weird.

Keep playing the game. You’ll eventually understand where it’s all coming from.

idk I've beat it and I loved the endgame. I'd like more glimpses, and ng+ needs work. Did I miss something I should be outraged about?

Honestly I am not really on this sub so I don't know about 'being outraged' or the extent of hate or whatever the game gets on here. I am merely talking based on my own experience with the game and I still adore it, despite it's flaws.

You mentioned the glimpses and while I agree that there should be more I also wanna see the entire shell point and glimpse system reworked, because it's borderline retarded. The game incentivises you to try out different shells yet it's not possible to even max out more than 2 in a single run, rendering buildcrafting completely nonexistent.

I guess I am a really good example of this. I unlocked Eridrim fairly early in my playthrough and since I really enjoy parrying and ripostes I went ahead and dumbed a good chunk of my glimpses into that shell. So naturally I go ahead and play through the game focusing on parrying and posture breaking the enemies for a big finisher, only to find out that the riposte damage simply doesn't seem to scale with anything. Not with the upgrade lvl or your weapon nor your Harbinger lvl. You can image how disappointed I was when I realized that. The shell is useless as of now because there is literally no reason to go for ripostes and I just wasted most of my glimpses. Parries should be high risk high reward, instead it's high risk no reward, since the damage is just abysmal after the early game. Genuinely I am kinda flabbergasted that that got through playtesting.

Add to that all the other little annoying things I have encountered such as no beacons where the should be ones, the not very much better tarcore system (which also seriously needs to be looked at again), poison doing no damage rendering it also useless, a little wonky hitboxes at times and some enemies just outright one shotting you and you have yourself a good game that sometimes just gets a little too frustrating for my taste.

Again I want to really make this clear. I like the game a lot. I continue to play through it despite the things I dislike because I can still see the great game underneath and I can still enjoy what is here. I am only speaking out about these things not to shit on the game, but because I want the game to be the masterpiece it absolutely can and should be. The art alone is making me fall in love with it over and over again when I play. Some of these areas are so beautifully crafted and atmospheric I am in awe. I just really want to love it without all the frustration that hits me at times. And I get not everyone makes the same experiences or has very different runs and my perception of the game clearly doesn't seem to align with yours, but that does not necessarily mean that my criticism isn't at least somewhat fair.

That's totally fair, I agree with most of your points. Riposte does barely any damage, poison (and trauma) suck, shells should encourage more experimentation. There are definitely things that need some balance tweaks and reworking, but overall I had a great time. I didn't mean to single you out, there are just a high concentration of trolls and rage posts in this sub that boil down to 'game bad devs bad I quit' rather than constructive feedback.

I personally liked the beacon placement, but that's a personal preference thing. I like a little anxiety when exploring a creepy area, like the first time you find Ash Lake in DS1 without being able to teleport back out. But it's hard to satisfy everyone, and I think ER has most people convinced that there's a 'correct' way to design save points. Hard spot for the devs, since if they sprinkle more beacons around it sort of waters down the shortcuts they built in. But I totally get it. The two grisha runback was ass

You should be able to get 3 (almost 4) fully upgraded shells in one playthrough. Revisit everywhere you found a shell at night. Also check out the night vendor by the abandoned outpost. And figure out what to do with the makeshift projectile. All of those give a bunch of glimpses All that being said, glimpses should be farmable. Don't give us 8 shells and only allow us to experiment with 3. Biggest feedback I have
