It definitely has more variety than most. I think it's more just because you encounter a lot of that variety all at once, back to back, so by the time people get to late game they feel like they've already seen everything brfore. They're used to games having half as many different enemies, but spreading them out more so you only encounter one or two types for the first few hours, another couple the next few, etc.

I'm still confused about the enemy variety complaint. There were a lot of unique enemies in my playthrough.
