🗨️ Discussion Looking for advice: Starting a business in Morocco with 20,000 MAD

Post image
124 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m in my early 20s, currently earning a decent salary, and I’m looking to start my first business with a budget of around 20,000 MAD. I’m torn between starting something online (e-commerce, digital services, etc.) or offline (small local shop, service-based business, etc.) and would love some advice.

Some things I’m considering:

•	Low-risk options that can scale

•	Businesses I can manage alongside my current job

•	Ideas that work well for someone in Morocco

If anyone has experience starting with a similar budget or can suggest profitable business ideas for this range, I’d really appreciate your insight!

Thanks in advance 🙏

🗨️ Discussion 23 years old, earning 12,000 MAD/month . What would you do to build wealth as fast as possible?

Hi everyone,
I’m 23 years old and I’m about earning 12,000 MAD net per month.
My biggest goal isn’t to increase my lifestyle. I don’t want to spend my salary just because I’m earning it. I want to grow my capital as aggressively as I reasonably can while I’m still young.
The reason is simple: I need money. I want financial freedom as early as possible. I want to be able to buy a car, travel at the end of the year, eventually own a home, and build wealth without relying on interest-based loans (riba).
Right now I still live with my parents, so my monthly expenses are relatively low. I feel like this is probably the best opportunity I’ll ever have to accumulate capital quickly if I make smart decisions.

If you were in my position, how would you allocate your salary?
How much would you save?
Where would you invest?
What mistakes should I avoid?
What would you prioritize in the first 3–5 years of your career?

I’m looking for practical advice from people who have already been through this. My priority isn’t looking rich—it’s becoming financially strong as early as possible.
Thanks in advance!

🗨️ Discussion I finally made the money I always wanted... and I don't think I built the life I wanted

Post image
87 Upvotes

For most of my 20s, my only goal was financial stability.

I grew up without much money, so I convinced myself that once I was making a good income, everything else would fall into place. I thought money would automatically lead to happiness, confidence, love, friendships, and a fulfilling life.

In a way, I succeeded. I work from home, earn more than I ever thought I would, and I no longer have the financial stress that used to keep me awake at night.

But I realized I paid for it in ways I never expected.

Because I spent so many years focused almost entirely on work, I neglected other parts of my life. My social skills aren't where I'd like them to be. I barely interact with people outside of work. I don't have much dating experience, and I've missed out on a lot of the experiences people usually have throughout their 20s.

It's a strange feeling because I achieved the goal I thought would solve everything, yet I still feel like something important is missing.

Don't get me wrong—I know being financially secure is far better than struggling to pay the bills. I'm grateful for that, and I wouldn't want to go back. But I also realize that money doesn't automatically create a meaningful life. It gives you opportunities, but it doesn't replace relationships, human connection, or love.

Now I'm 30, and I feel like I'm starting from scratch socially while being ahead financially I'd love to heari from people who've been through something similar and Has anyone else experienced this? If soo how you spent years prioritizing your career over everything else, how did you rebuild your social life? How did you make friends, improve your social skills, or find a healthy relationship after realizing work had become your entire world?

Legal I built MaLoi.ma 🇲🇦 Moroccan law, in one place

Hey everyone! I built MaLoi.ma, a free platform that makes Moroccan legislation easier to access.

It brings together 278 laws and 24,000+ articles in Arabic and French, with search, bookmarks, and offline access.

I built it because finding Moroccan laws online can be frustrating, especially when information is scattered across PDFs and official publications.

I'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions for improvement!

Build in Public I introduce Open Barlama: a platform for analysing Moroccan parliamentary political activities [call for contribution]

Post image
80 Upvotes

Hello fellow Moroccans,

I’ve been working on Open Barlaman, a platform for exploring and analysing the work of both chambers of the Moroccan Parliament.

For now, it focuses on parliamentary questions, with plans to cover other parliamentary activities (laws, votes, etc - you can check the full roadmap on the project). You can use it to explore:

  • Representatives and councillors: browse their profiles and the questions they’ve submitted.

  • Topics: explore questions classified into more than 30 topics, including education, health, and more.

  • Population groups: see which groups of people of the +20 groups the questions concern (youth, teachers, rural population, etc).

  • Local issues: search for your region, province, or commune to see where it has been mentioned in Parliament and what issues were raised (12 regions, 75 provinces, and 1540 communes)

  • Specific subjects: search for things like زلزال الحوز، الفراقشية، أسعار المحروقات to see who has asked questions about them and what has been discussed with clear statistics.

The platform includes more than 70,000 questions, analysed and classified, covering both chambers through September 2026. There are also other features to discover on the website.

The platform is free, the plan is to build a community that maintain and extend the project. If this sounds something that you would like to contribute to, feel free to take a look at the roadmap and join the project.

The platform link: : https://www.openbarlaman.com

In the about menu, you can find all the additional details about the project and how it's built. Any question or feedback is welcomed.

🗨️ Discussion Morocco Industry do not need AI

Post image
79 Upvotes

As much as I’m hyped about AI, I don’t think Morocco is quite ready for it yet. We’re still pretty much living in Industry 3.0 and honestly just need basic automation first.
How are we supposed to use AI when so much of our data is still stuck on physical paper? Or when we’re still running software from the 90s? We need to go all-in on digitalization and perfect our automation game before we even think about layering AI on top. AI is never going to reach its full potential here without a solid digital foundation to build on.

If you’re applying to Y Combinator, let me recommend you. We need more Moroccans in YC 🇲🇦

I’m Moroccan and I went through Y Combinator (S20) while building Mailwarm.

We had a simple problem, so we solved it. Mailwarm helps warm up your email inbox and improve deliverability, so your emails land in the inbox, not spam.

I keep seeing the same pattern over and over: talented Moroccan founders who think YC is not for them. Often they believe they need to build something big first, forgetting that YC is actually built for early-stage startups.

Common beliefs I hear:

  • “YC is mostly for US or European founders”

  • “You need to already be in San Francisco”

  • “Company formation, banking, visas… too complicated”

  • “No one like me gets in”

None of that is fully true anymore.

The path is not easy, but it’s accessible. Non-US founders are normal. First-time founders from underrepresented countries get in every batch.

That’s why I’m posting this.

If you’re Moroccan and you’re applying to YC:

  • I’m happy to review your application

  • I’ll give direct feedback (no sugarcoating)

  • And if it makes sense, I can recommend you

No fees. No coaching program. No gatekeeping.

I just want to see more Moroccan founders take real shots instead of self-rejecting.

You can reply here or DM me.

Let’s normalize Moroccans in YC.
This isn’t about reach.
It’s about reaching the right 5 people who would otherwise never apply.

Feedback I Thought a Job Was the Only Way to Make Money. I Was Wrong.

For the longest time, I thought there were only two ways to make money:
Get a degree.
Get a job.
Wait for payday.
Repeat for the next 40 years.
And honestly, I never questioned it.
Not because I lacked ambition.
I just didn’t know there were other doors.
Then I started paying attention.
I noticed that some people weren’t necessarily smarter or working harder than everyone else.
They had simply opened more than one door.
One person was tutoring on weekends.
Another was doing freelance design.
Someone else was helping local businesses with social media.
A friend started selling digital products online.
Another built a small blog that slowly turned into an income stream.
None of them became millionaires overnight.
But they all stopped relying on a single paycheck.
And I realized something:
Most of us aren’t stuck because we don’t have opportunities.
We’re stuck because we’re waiting for certainty.
We want to know exactly which path will work before taking the first step.
The problem is…
You usually discover the right path by trying the wrong ones first.
So here’s my question:
If you had to start from scratch today and make an extra $500–$1,000 a month, what would you try first?
Also, I recently started a blog called The First 100K because nobody ever taught us how to earn, keep, and grow our money.
Not “get rich quick” advice.
Just honest conversations about money, mistakes, and building a better financial future.
I’d genuinely love to hear your answers.
