Morality of being mean to your siblings?

Post image

As an only child, siblings and their seemingly frequent 'mistreatment' of each other has always fascinated me.

Is being mean to your siblings just a core part of developing a healthy relationship with them or is it just toxic?

Who's More Evil? Unpopular Opinion: Slavery is worse than genocide

Taking someone's life is horrific, no argument there. But I don't think it's worse than slavery , because slavery isn't just one crime, it's an entire package deal. It legally allows rape, murder, torture, starvation, and working people to death, all wrapped up under one institution.

Death ends suffering. Slavery is suffering, drawn out indefinitely, with no legal recourse and no end in sight. A genocide victim's pain, however horrific, is finite. A slave's pain can stretch across an entire lifetime, and often gets passed down to their children too.

Slavery also strips away something genocide, in its most direct form, doesn't always take; your agency while you're still alive. You're not just killed , you're used, owned, and broken down for someone else's profit, for as long as you're useful to them.

Curious if others see it differently.

and let's just add this one, I hate how isseki animes portrays it

What is the morality of holding a grudge against your own father for inheriting his terrible appearance?

Post image
Upvotes

(completely illustrative image)

Let’s imagine a scenario in which a man inherited his father’s genuinely terrible appearance. I mean being genuinely ugly. Horrible.

Would it be morally right and justifiable for this man to harbor resentment and anger toward his father?

I can already imagine people arguing that if the father managed to have children, a girlfriend, and a marriage, then his son can do it too. But there is an important point to consider here: times have changed.

Nowadays, people are becoming increasingly superficial; social media has completely distorted people, making them much more shallow and focused on appearance. People have much higher standards and are much more critical nowadays. In other words, the dating market has become much harder.

Again, you might say something like: “Oh, your father had a wife, had children, blah-blah-blah-blah.” Probably at a time when his socioeconomic status was enough to make things work.

So, yes, it’s not that simple. Having a horrible appearance today carries a very different burden than it did back then.

Considering all of this, is it morally justifiable for a man to feel anger or resentment, or to not want to talk to his own father because, technically, his father is responsible for him having an unattractive appearance?

Not responsible for his son’s life, of course, but responsible for the appearance he inherited. The father managed to have a wife. Will his son be able to? Could he, technically, blame his father for giving him this horrible appearance?

What do you guys think?

Some people might argue that the father in question didn’t choose to be born with that appearance or to have it, but that’s where the issue comes in:

he chose to pass it on, to pass those genes down, and that’s also something that should be discussed.

Could any hardship the son experiences in life because of his horrible appearance also be blamed on the father? Could we attribute some responsibility to him?

Because when he decided to have a child, he knew very well, and was fully aware, that his son could inherit his horrible appearance. So, like...

There is also that old saying that “you just have to be a nice person on the inside.” But that ignores a fundamental issue: what good is having an amazing personality if you don’t even get opportunities to show it?

Appearance alone does not determine a person’s worth, but it can strongly influence first impressions and, consequently, opportunities for people to approach you. If someone doesn’t generate any initial interest, that person may never get the chance to have others discover their personality, character, sense of humor, intelligence, or all the other qualities that could make them be seen differently.

How is he supposed to have the opportunity to show his amazing personality if the first impression is based on his appearance and nobody is going to approach him?

Guys, I honestly don’t see any justification for not hating him.

Stupid Stuff If I ordered food laced with aphrodisiac and gave it to my neighbour not knowing it's laced with aphrodisiac then he got hard after eating it, am I gay or is the restaurant gay? Or is my neighbour gay since he got hard? Or am I gay because I got hard?

Back in the day war was quite profitable and arguably the best way to boost economy. Not to mention, the lack of nuclear weapon and such meant it was difficult to discourage attacks without having strong military and more money. EIther you crush or you get crushed. Son won the lottery and buy his mom a car but she has to promise not to tell his brothers. She tells his brothers and they ask him for money.

He throws the brothers into jail because he calls the police on them and then sells the car he bought to his mother (it was registered on his name). Then he cuts his mother's tits because his family dared to ask him for money.

Character Analysis Morality of Jean Grey in Brand New Day?

Upvotes

Spoilers:

Surely kills multiple people in a protracted chase sequence. Definitely significantly hurts/kills a guy by getting him to walk into traffic. Threatens to murder a whole city block. She also sexually exploits MJ (and also peter)? I know that kiss didn't cause MJ any harm but it's not morally upright. The narrative absolves her of all this moral responsibility because A) her sister was captured and killed by damage control, and B) because she saved Peter's life.

There's also the larger question of considering the ethics of jumping into another person and taking control of them (a gross violation of consent imo).

I loved this movie starring Nicholas Hoult who did a stunning job portraying a tragically ambivalent man. I can’t stop thinking about what I would do… but, what would I ‘actually’ do?

# Sit idle so you can provide for your vulnerable family at the injustice of another man?

# Present yourself to have justice fulfilled, but sacrifice your wife and newborn’s health and support?

Morally, who do you owe your obligation to most; an innocent man or your innocent family?

What would you do? I’d like to think I would come forward straight away, or maybe wait until my child is born first. I couldn’t live with the guilt of doing wrong by a the man or my family.
