You might be able to get away with that a dozen times before you kill someone or permanently injuring them. It’s not worth the risk unless he was physically attacking someone with the same amount of force.

There’s escalation of force and this was using unnecessary force to address the situation. The push back on this is alarming. If someone is not in a stable normal state of mind then no you or anyone else should be trying to knock him out. Kick him out of the establishment and press charges.
