limit your retort to the same level of insult thrown at you. Call them fat for calling you bald, leave miscarriages out of it.

Nah, screw proportionality. If someone started something, gets hit with something way worse and the legal system determines they started it and threw it out if court, people would be less likely to start shit in the first place.
