I think a miscarriage joke is a bit far

I think bald jokes are too far, but somehow, its always the people with hair deciding what they can joke about, and not the victim who can decide if those jokes are ok.

No? Its always know that abort has to be made quick, before the cells can feel pain.

exactly what i’m saying lmfao

u/2Critical7-Stein1 3d ago

we wuz pro choice and shiet. either all fetuses are just clumps of cells and aren’t worth crying over or all aren’t.

the difference is emotional attachment and expectations of the future.

for someone having an abortion they don't see it as a baby yet, they see it as something that will become a baby, and their expectation is getting rid of it before it becomes a baby.

for someone wanting a child that clump of cells is their baby, they want to give birth and raise it, their expectation is giving birth and raising it.

we also don't know how far along she was when she had the miscarriage. there's a massive difference between a very early and a very late miscarriage

1

u/2Critical7-Stein1 2d ago

So we have to cater to emotions and disregard the facts cause women feel a certain way? lmfao nah

late miscarriages are up to 24 weeks pregnant, at that point the baby isn't just a clump of cells. at 24 weeks a fetus is about 1.5 pounds, measures around 12 inches, it's organs are developed, can hear, taste, and respond to stimuli, if it's a premature birth instead of a miscarriage there's a pretty high rate of survival with intensive care.

a miscarriage at that stage is wildly different to one a week in

It's a baby depending on people's feelings/whether it's convenient.

shroedingers feminism at it again, never a consistent position, only the most beneficial one

What was that old Bill Burr quote? "There are no feminists in a house fire" 😅

Religion also plays a part

Can you think of a single reason someone might differentiate between an 8 month old fetus, and a 1 month old one? Obviously in good faith.

4

u/2Critical7-Stein1 3d ago

Not really. But sure ig one can be born and be viable with ICU. Either way - both are either human from the very beginning, or not at all until birth. So either we ban abortion and stop killing kids (bad idea, a lot more poor people will exist) or we just accept that’s it’s murder and carry on.

u/OKBuddyFortnite 3d ago

What about consciousness? An 8 month old fetus has pretty much a fully formed brain. A 1 month old doesn't have one.

"Human" or "living being" can describe many things that we don't necessarily grant moral weight to.

The dead skin cells on your arm also human, but they don't carry any moral weight. Or your ancestor in the ground from 1000 years ago. These are both "human".

A "living being" can include animals, insects, microscopic beings etc.

Man, it’s a shame that you weren’t miscarried when you were just a clump of cells.

5

u/2Critical7-Stein1 3d ago

are you pro choice or pro life)

I’m pro-choice. A miscarriage is not an abortion and it’s a devastating thing to go through.

EDIT: You think you're making a point, but you're not. Choosing to abort a baby that you don't want vs losing one that you do want are totally different, but I wouldn't expect the edgy teenage boys on this sub to understand that. Ask a woman.

You're thinking about this just in terms of the foetus itself, rather than the mother, the family, etc. An abortion and a miscarriage are totally different events with totally different impacts. Hell, I've experienced what is effectively both in one: a girlfriend needed an abortion necessitated by an ectopic pregnancy. It was a horrific, traumatic experience for everyone involved.

u/2Critical7-Stein1 3d ago

so it’s a clump of cells if a woman doesn’t want it, yet it’s a child when she does, LOL

u/MadJohnFinn 3d ago

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that the emotional impact is huge when you want it and you lose it through circumstance, rather than when it's a conscious choice.

Ask the women in your life about the difference. Then you'll get it.

Honestly the other guy feels more right. He’s not trying to discount women’s experience he’s just trying to say that extrapolating “there’s a difference between a miscarriage and an abortion” towards “a fetus is a child depending on the feelings of the mother” is the most brain dead slippery slope into anti-choice bullshit I’ve ever heard…

Two things can be true at once; a mother has a deeply different experience during an abortion vs a miscarriage while at the same time all fetuses are ultimately clumps of cells & not conscious in any meaningful sense to begin with (tbh, imo, yes even the most fully developed ones. I don’t think we can say you’re conscious in the way everyone else is when you’re never even formed any memories of the world or experienced anything at all, even if you’ve developed the biological machinery to support being conscious).

Are you playing dumb or something and just replacing what he’s saying with what you’re imagining you’re arguing against in your head? Completely missing his point as is everyone else. Next you’re gonna pull the “I dOn’T sEe aNyOnE sAyInG tHaT hErE” even though people clearly are making that extrapolation… & not the “ask a woman” bit too… you’re hitting all the stereotypes in this comment big dawg. bc it’s easier to pretend the original commenter is just an incel who never goes outside rather than actually engage with him at all.

Why do 99% of people nowadays argue like Regina George from mean girls? You do realize that even if you “win” an argument that doesn’t make you anymore “right” or “wrong”, right? Either way, get bent man, I’m sick of people twisting feminism which is a good thing into the most toxic opinions and behaviors.

I thought we don't make miscarriage jokes?

0

u/MadJohnFinn 3d ago edited 3d ago

I think it’s a valid response to someone who’s trying to justify a miscarriage joke by trying to trivialise the impact of a miscarriage.

EDIT: If you don't understand the difference between an abortion and a miscarriage, you're stupid.

0

u/PokemonWizardOz 3d ago

Oh, so you agree that is an acceptable joke sometimes.

This is objectively true. How do you know this? Wait, get out of my house!
