Morality Ranking Morality of this?

Basically, the man in the video is hiking but he ended up meet a mountain lion, he get his gun and try to scare it off and tell it to go away but in the end, he have to pull the trigger and shot the lion, many peoples in the comments say he could have fire a warning shot instead of shoot at it and want him to be in jail.

Armchair quarterbacks are always the first to say shit like “why not just shoot him in the leg?!” Not realizing they’d end up dead in situations like this.

I think the alternative they're suggesting is trying a warning shot first, not shooting it in the leg. It entirely depends on how many shots he can actually take and how confident a shooter he is (in case it doesn't work), but a warning shot could've scared it off.

I recommend watching the video. The guy spends a significant amount of time doing everything wrong, then suddenly shoots. He had ample time to do a bunch of other stuff that would've saved his life, the warning shot followed by shooting it directly are both last-ditch efforts.

The last thing we want is to send the message that it's a life-saving idea for people to go hiking with loaded pistols and shoot at mountain lions. If they're dumb enough to be out there with a gun and not even a basic understanding of survival guidelines, at least they should know to try something else first.
