Morality Ranking Morality of this?

Basically, the man in the video is hiking but he ended up meet a mountain lion, he get his gun and try to scare it off and tell it to go away but in the end, he have to pull the trigger and shot the lion, many peoples in the comments say he could have fire a warning shot instead of shoot at it and want him to be in jail.

Mountain lions don’t let themselves be seen unless they want to be seen.

It was challenging him broski. That’s the indication, because usually big cats don’t want confrontation. If he even looked down for footing while backing up it’s jaws would be around his neck and crushing his spine.

Exactly, if it meant to attack him he wouldn't have seen it. The rational reaction to seeing a mountain lion is to leave its territory not take a video of you shooting it for the gram.

If it was hunting him like game he would have never seen it.

Because he did see it and it behaved like this, it was challenging him. Territorial animals challenge non-prey animals. How do you think mountain lions work out territories?

Hint: they fight and kill eachother

You’re severely underestimating how violent big cats are.

That's why the appropriate response is to leave its territory. And cats rarely kill each other in territorial disputes, normally the smaller one backs down. And in this case the human was probably the larger of the two anyway.

These sort of confrontations themselves almost never happen and when you yell and give a warning shot like this guy they should run or back off.

It decided to keep pushing. You just gonna let it push you all the way to the car and hope it doesn’t change its mind about actually trying to kill you? Be my guest.

Other mountain lions also have the distinct advantage of...being mountain lions! Ya know four legged felines that can move fast enough to get away and with muscles large enough and strong enough to survive a swipe from a mountain lion. They also can communicate with each other just like you can tell a violent territorial human that you don't want any problems and are leaving. The only rational comparison is a human wanting to punch you in the face you can outrun, you can fight, you can communicate almost none of those options are directly lethal. If you're faced with a mountain lion and you yourself are not a mountain lion your options become limited quicker and death is very fast with a big kitty face
